We had such a good all around experience! The owners were very easy to work with and extremely thoughtful. The house is large, clean, well laid out, and quiet. The views are literally spectacular! While the animals on the property could be ignored, our family really enjoyed interacting with them. They made for a very unique, memorable experience. While staying there we enjoyed downtown Beaufort including Front Street at Stillwater, Beaufort Grocery, riding bikes, the catamaran sunset cruise (previous visit), and shelling on Shackleford Banks. Ruddy Duck Tavern in Morehead was also excellent! Very cool place to visit. We would definitely recommend to a friend or relative that they stay at this property!

Excellent property. Loved everything about this house. We would love to go back every year. It is very relaxing and nature friendly. Donkeys and rooster gave wake up call every morning. Fully equiped kitchen so do not need to go out to eat for every meal.

Joy and Duane's Escape to Paradise
Joy and Duane's Escape to Paradise
Let me first say, don't bring a film camera bring digital only, for the amount of pictures you will end up taking would cost too much to put on film. You will want to preserve memories that just seem to abound between family and guests. Something idyllic happens here, some sort of peace and tranquility truly emerges. This vacation started with an arrival driving almost a mile into the property on the homes tree lined dirt road/driveway. You feel the privacy that you will have, you realize you are now truly on VACATION. There will in deed be relaxation but there will also be energy you will exert to get the most you can from this serene natures paradise. From kayaking, fishing, crabbing, clamming, biking, bird watching. We saw egrets stalking the waters, osprey hunting fish, skates, caught crabs, raked clams, went down to the water at night to see the minnows jumping in the thousands a couple of times, stayed up to here the frog croaking concert that was incredibly loud and amazing. And on the last morning Joy saw a dolphin swimming in the waters off the deck. Then there is the peaceful times wading and swimming in the water, sunning, reading on the expansive rear deck. I must at this time tell you that you could live on this rear deck. You will gravitate here like your body is on auto pilot if reading is your quest, you can enjoy the sun, and watch the sunset. You must have your morning coffee from the deck, it would be wrong not to I live in Massachusetts and came down to North Carolina to make a doable vacation with my N.C. relocated 25 year old son. Many times and activities shared, and the yearly re-bonding with my son was the best. The daily home cooked meals with family altogether was healthy and nice. The talking over the table while eating, the banter was the way that dinner's should be. The comfortable silence that happens when people are at peace is what happened here.Sometimes I found myself up at 5:30am prepping home fries or making pancake mix and totally refreshed, enjoying the silence and the morning that was waking outside. Beaufort center is a must do, the little shops and restaurants, the little art galleries were great. And if you go out to eat you must go to the "Beaufort Grocery" restaurant. Not to would be a dis-service to yourself. And be careful not to miss this place that would be a dis-service. The home is a Gem as are the owners Pam & John, they will become your extended family, 5-star hosts.

Owner response: Dear Joy and Duane, I'm terribly sorry this note did not reach you before now! Somehow I thought I had replied to several comments but they must have been lost. I'm so glad you all had so much fun at our house! Are you a writer? What you wrote was just beautiful! Just melted my heart! Hope all is well your way, and that we see you again next year! Warm regards to you and yours! (All the animals say hi!!!) Pam :)
The only bad thing about our stay was that it was too short! John and Pam are good people and were super easy to work with. Everything about the house and location was great. We enjoyed the animals and especially enjoyed the dogs. We had 6 adults and 4 young kids on the trip. The kids spent most of their waking hours with the dogs which gave the adults time to relax! The deck was great for just sitting in the breeze or watching the moon shining off the water. It was just beautiful. We will definitely return.

Owner response: Dear Kenneth, forgive this response for being so late! My internet skills are not always the best! I'm so glad your family enjoyed your stay at our house! The animals miss you!!! We now have 2 donkeys, Ella and Charlie, that love to get attention! Ginger is still "fishing" and swimming, and all the other animals are doing fine! Blessings to you and yours, and a heartfelt, sincere thank you! Fondly, Pam

We enjoyed The Flynn Inn so much in 2012 we returned for our annual family vacation again in 2013! Great to see our beach friends and all the animals again, and such an enjoyable week. Great fishing, new fun times in the kayaks, great local food, awesome to be in the great outdoors! Wonderful home away from home, more than perfect. Thanks again!

A little bit of paradise right outside of Beaufort!
A little bit of paradise right outside of Beaufort!
My family of 10 loved spending the time at the Flynn's Beach House! It had all the amenities and then some - you really didn't have to go anywhere as they had everything you could think of - the beach, the natural beauty of the Down East and even pets! I love dogs and I missed mine so much while I was down there so it was fun playing with the dogs and the goats and the horse. The beds were very comfortable and everything was so spacious and very clean - the best times were had down on the small beach clamming, kayaking and lying out in the sun. The back porch was perfect for watching the sunsets and reading a good book. A little paradise right outside of Beaufort! Close to downtown Beaufort but a sanctuary away from all it all. It was fun going to Harkers Island and taking the ferry to Shackleford Banks and the Cape Lookout National Seashore. Thanks again for being so helpful and accommodating! We had a great time and many memories were made.

Owner response: Thanks so much for sharing with others what is special about our private little world! Your loving attention to the animals is appreciated by us...and them as well!!! (They told us!) So glad you like the beds....several are Stearnes and Foster, and we find them very comfy, too. So glad you enjoyed the kayaks and clamming, and beautiful North River! It was a pleasure to meet your lovely family! Thanks again for sharing your happy family memories down the road less traveled!! Come again! With sincere appreciation, Pam and John
I cannot say enough about our vacation at this beautiful house on the perfect location. We all enjoyed (adults and kids 13 and 6) the North River,(right in your backyard) the water is perfect for children to swim, raft or kayak. My husband spend his time fishing and never wanted to leave! Our boys fell in love with the farm animals but especially with Rocky and Ginger the dogs that live on the property. The owners Pam and John cannot do enough to make you comfortable and happy. The house is close to the local attractions Shakelford Banks, Cape Lookout lighthouse and downtown Beaufort. You can visit them all but you never have to leave the beauty of the house and the North River if you don't want to. I recommend this house for anyone with children looking to get away from it all.

Owner response: Dear friends, it was truly a joy communicating with you since last October ...and then finally meeting you and your family a few weeks ago! It warmed our hearts that you all enjoyed the water and animals so much. Again we are reminded why we fell in love with this remote area. You have a beautiful family, and it was a pleasure to share our beach home with you. Hope our paths meet again! Fondly, Pam and John
Perfect House For Creating Family Memories
Perfect House For Creating Family Memories
This is a truly magical place that exceeded our expectations. The generous and gracious owners made us feel at home the entire time of our week long visit. We found it easy to get to and the balloons tied to the post at the turn off were a nice touch. The photos do not do this place justice. The whimsical artwork and bright colors gave the fun beachy feel that we loved. Our large blended family had plenty of space and the bedrooms/bathrooms fit the needs of the wide age span (84 years to 18 months). The kitchen is large enough to hold several cooks and the common living area could house several events at once. Enough deck room so adults and children could spread out. The private beach area was perfect for our little ones and big ones alike and we all enjoyed feeding the goats, chickens, and pony. I highly recommend this property for a site to create great family memories.

Owner response: We are so pleased happy family memories were made at our beach house!!! Thank you for the compliments on the decorations...this retired kindergarten teacher fell in love up with such colorful, eclectic and whimsical decorations! Glad you enjoyed the large kitchen...I'm sure many delicious meals were shared!! So glad the big porch allowed for warm, breezy family visits! I'm sure there was much reminiscing and laughter! Thanks again for sharing what you found special while visiting our home. We plan to update our photos due to your comment that they don't quite catch the specialness of our beach getaway! Sincerely, Pam and John
A wonderful getaway!
A wonderful getaway!
Our group of five families, who have been spending Memorial Day weekend together at various NC oceanfront homes since 2001, thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the "riverfront". A great house with access to waterfront fun (kayaking, canoeing and clamming were favorites) and close to quaint and historic Beaufort or the ferry to Cape Lookout. We saw dolphins, a loggerhead turtle and, of course the resident pony, goats and chickens in the barn out back. A fun, relaxing weekend spent with great friends at a comfortable and spacious home. Thanks Pam for sharing it with us!

About the owner: We used to live in Atlantic Beach on Bogue Sound. While we loved it for many years, we yearned for more acres and privacy. John and his friend Ron discovered this beautiful property and we all knew we were destined to build here! We did, and our children were in high school/middle school at the time. We love the privacy and being so far away from reality, but in fact, wthin 6 miles of a beautiful town, Beaufort! As well as 7 miles from the fishing village of Harker's Island! We couldn't have animals other than cats or dogs in Atlantic Beach, but out here we have a mini horse, and 2 goats that love to be petted and fed carrots and apples! Our 4 chickens love attention! Our 2 dogs, an old, gentle golden retriever, and a frisky pound puppy, can either stay at the house or we will relocate them. They love going swimming with you!!! Great for kids that love animals!!! We will be in charge of their care, so no worries there! :)
