Great stay! Memorable!
Great stay! Memorable!
Four of us, 2 couples stayed here for 10 days and loved it. It was a perfect layout to share. Walked to the Malecon every day. Talked with the neighbors who were very nice. It was fun living in the heart of the neighborhood, along with neighborhood noises. The house was impeccably clean and the a/c in the bedrooms made for a comfortable night's sleep. Very well equipped. We loved bbqing on the weber. It's been almost 3 months since we've been there and we still often think about and talk about our trip with fond memories. We left a piece of our heart there. Thanks Catherine and Octo. You were great to rent from -Joe, Lori, Doug & Janie

LOVED staying here!
LOVED staying here!
My wife and I, along with another couple, stayed here for a week and absolutely loved it! The house is situated on a very large lot with great neighbors on either side. The house and grounds are very well maintained! We saw iguanas roaming the property, ate some great mangos from the mango trees out front, and watched horses walk down the road every day! Once we arrived in Vieques, we called Letty (the house manager), who was absolutely wonderful! She gave us tips on things to do and places to see. She told us several times to call her with any questions or concerns. There are A/C units in the bedrooms, which were great to have, but honestly, the breezes and fans throughout the house provided more than enough cool air to keep us comfortable even in the hottest parts of the day. There are two grocery stores that are a stones throw away from the house, and the Malecon and Esperanza Beach are about a 5 minute walk. We loved taking advantage of all the extras the house has to offer... beach towels, snorkel gear, beach chairs, coolers, and so much more. The street is quiet and the beds are amazing! We always got a great night's sleep! There is a softball field across from the house where we watched some local kids playing softball one night, which was really fun! You can't really go wrong with this house and I would highly recommend it! Octavian was super easy to work with and that made our trip so much better! Will definitely be back!

Amazing to say the least!
Amazing to say the least!
Not only is this house gorgeous, have the most comfy beds of any vacation rental in the world, and equipped with everything you could possibly need, it is also in an ideal location. The store, bakery, restaurants, bars, etc are all within a couple of blocks walking distance. It is super easy to access main roads with your car as well. The next door neighbor (Antonio) is a fisherman and came home one day from work with TWO 15 lb tuna for us!!!!! They were about an hour out of the sea and we put them right on the grill and made mango salsa from the mango tree in the yard. YUM!!!! The neighborhood is very quaint and everyone is wonderful. There is a little baseball field across the street, so you can catch a local little league game if you like. We went during the rainy season (it rained once on a week) but it did have the mosquitoes out, so be sure to pack some repellent if traveling this time of year.

Authentic Vieques Experience - Fabulous!
Authentic Vieques Experience - Fabulous!
It's difficult to express just how much we enjoyed our stay at Casa de Pepito. The home is by far the nicest and most updated home we have stayed in, from the spacious bedrooms and private baths, to the roomy, well-equipped kitchen, not to mention the wrap-around porch where we enjoyed our morning coffee and relaxing dinners while soaking up the ambience of the locals and the surrounding neighborhood. The house is located on the back of a deep lot and even though there are houses all around, there is a feeling of seclusion. There are some great fruit trees on the property - we even enjoyed a fruit salad one morning of mangoes and starfruit picked from trees in the front yard! While it took us a morning or two to get used to the neighborhood roosters, we thoroughly enjoyed soaking up the ambience and culture of the Esperanza neighborhood, and were delighted to find a grocery store and wonderful bakery just a block away. The locals are friendly and even if unable to speak English, I was always greeted with a smile and a hearty "buenos dios!" And of course, the beautiful beaches and great snorkerling are the icing on the cake. The most difficult decision we had each morning was trying to decide which beach we wanted to go to that day. If you're wanting an authentic Viequense experience and are looking for a relaxing vacation in a beautiful home in a quiet neighborhood, Casa de Pepito is the answer.

Admittedly, I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to accommodations; so, take it from me that Casa de Pepito is a hidden gem in this island paradise! It's beautifully renovated and well appointed, right down to the modern, European-syle kitchen and luxe mattresses and quality linens. It's bright, light and airy, as it's positioned to take advantage of the tradewinds. For sleeping, the A/C units in the bedrooms keep you extra cool for a good night's sleep. The home is located in desirable Esperanza, an authentic Viequen neighborhood just blocks from the malecon with restaurants, bars, shops and water sport operators. The neighbors are friendly and hospitable. (They even offered us a huge, freshly caught lobster our first day here, which we promptly prepared and dipped in copious amounts of butter). The home's owners, Octavian and Catherine, are a pleasure, and have done a tremendous job of making Casa de Pepito into an island oasis. We will be back! P.S. I can't help but comment on an earlier review concerning the "authenticity" of the neighborhood. Vieques is not Disney's scrubbed down and perfectly polished version of a Caribbean island. It is a real and still-somewhat-raw island, with a laid-back, sleepy vibe, friendly people, and colorful roosters and wild horses roaming the neighborhoods as they have for generations. That is what makes Vieques special.

Casa de Pepito is a lovely, inviting, and well-equipped house--full of modern amenities (such as fantastic bathrooms) and creature comforts that made our four night stay in Esperanza very enjoyable. At this house, it is easy to take advantage of all that the area has to offer: the nearby malecon with its breathtaking views of the ocean; the fresh seafood at Trade Winds restaurant (especially Sunday paella); the amazing Bioluminescent Bay evening tour; beautiful Sun Bay Beach; and, of course, the warm and welcoming people of the island. Had we stayed longer, we would have rented a car to get around more of the island and to explore more beaches, but taxis were efficient and quite reasonable, and cab drivers are extremely knowledgable about Vieques and its history. In fact, the driver who took us to Isabel Segunda one day, turned out to be an excellent tour guide! The location of the house gave us the opportunity to experience a real neighborhood and to get a good sense of what makes Vieques such a special and unforgettable place. We had a great time and would recommend this house to our friends!

Absolutely Gorgeous Home!
Absolutely Gorgeous Home!
Staying at Casa De Pepito far exceeded our expectations. This home is such a treasure! Close to the malecon (waterfront strip) of Esperanza; within walking distance to several restaurants, bars, little shops & the beach! The home is clean, well furnished, comfortable, airy & cool. Being a foodie & wanna be chef, I was impressed with the well stocked kitchen & appliances. Every little detail is covered in this home! Octavian is a charm to work with! Would absolutely return!

We planned our honeymoon to be something different than the resort kind. We certainly lucked out with Catherines amazing home in vieques. The house is in a residential area, full of Latin music and flare. It was a short walk to 2 convenient stores and to the Malecon. The location was ideal and ver affordable. We had a lot of privacy when we wanted it, and would submerge ourselves into island life any minute. We certainly suggest buying a travel guide book and renting a car to full explore the island. The main beaches (sun Bay) were beautiful. But if you drove for just a few miles, were ready for adventure, would stumble on some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, with great snorkeling- and almost always were the only people or one of a few. Blue beach, green beach, playa negra and Garcia were our favorites. The restaurants on the malecon were great, everyone was very friendly, and the food was decent. We were waiting for some amazing carribean food, but our favorite was taco night at bananas! Trade winds and bill had the best, but most expensive food. We ate out every night, drank plenty of rum punches and are planning our next trip back! The house is a perfect location. It is clean, very comfortable and updated. If you are looking for a off-the-beaten-path type of vacation without breaking the bank this is it. We explored everything, met a lot of great people, slept great in the house and have only great memories and no complaints. Thank you Catherine and Octavian for letting us use you home, thank you for the champagne, and thank you for helping us have the best honeymoon we could have hoped for! Sincerely, Cara & Kenny R

Bright, breezy, and spotlessly clean
Bright, breezy, and spotlessly clean
The rental cottage is really nice with lots of large jalousie windows and doors, so every room is bright and filled with natural breezes and there are also ceiling fans in every room. When we arrived, everything was immaculately clean. The kitchen is high end and well equipped, and the bathrooms are large and modern. The mattress was really luxe and comfy--couldn’t be better. The location of this cottage on a village street gave us a real sense of the local life (think: island style normal middle class neighborhood). The neighbors were very pleasant and we communicated despite their lack of English and our lack of Spanish. It is a 1 1/2 block walk to the waterfront area with a few cute shops, a museum, and a variety of superb restaurants. I’m a picky city girl, and I was really impressed by the food choices. My favorite restaurant had a deck overlooking the street and the water, and on Saturday night we watched local teens riding their beautifully trained horses up and down the main street. Strolling along the waterfront after dinner, gazing at the stars was a favorite part of our trip. We had a rental SUV for our first few days but it broke down and we couldn’t replace it. I panicked but we actually managed fine walking everywhere. There is a tiny general store 1 block away with most necessities and a bakery next door to that. The beaches of Vieques are the most beautiful I have seen. The owners told us how to find some amazing empty beaches (you’ll need an SUV). Even the beach closest to town (Sun Bay) was nearly deserted on weekdays and we almost always saw beautiful free roaming horses there.

This home has been beautifully redone on the inside the beds are extremely comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped. Unfortunately the pictures shown are rather misleading. What they don't show is the vacant house at the front of the property the very close proximity to neighbors and the distance to the beach. If you are looking for a chance to live in a Viequnese neighborhood and get a feel for the way locals live on the island this place is for you. For those looking for a more quiet relaxing vacation close to the beach you should find a different rental.
