Orient house description
Let the sun wake you in the morning, make coffee, go out on the deck and enjoy what many tell us is the best view in Orient.
I'm English and in England, we name our houses. We named this house 'The Perch' because it sits up high in the trees and dozens of birds come to our feeders every day. Hawks fly over the field. A couple of years ago, a pair of owls raised their offspring in a cedar tree yards from the edge of the deck. Other years it's orioles.
You can get to the Long Island Sound beach in a 3 minute walk and be 100 miles from Manhattan with no one else in sight.
And when you want to go into the village, it's a short car or bike ride away.
Keywords: house, private community, quiet, secluded, private beach, 3 minute walk to Sound, large deck, gardens.
Allergy alert: a cat and dog live here usually. The house is very clean, but not suitable for serious allergies.

A Bit of Heaven on The North Fork
A Bit of Heaven on The North Fork
"The Perch" is a bit of heaven sitting high up on a hill in Orient on the North Fork of Long Island. My partner and I spent ten wonderful days there in the dead of winter with strong winds whipping up white caps on Long Island sound and intermittent snow fall coating the trees with white frosting......but we were cozy and warm in this beautiful house with drop dead scenic views out of the large windows onto fields below and in the distance we could see the bay and Shelter Island. Every morning we fed the many varieties of birds that came to the bird feeders off the back deck....what a joy to see the geese in the field, and spot a hawk circling overhead...At night we sat in front of the large fireplace and just enjoyed the tranquility of this spacious and well kept house....This is a lovely place for a winter break and there is much to see and do in the area. We took the Orient ferry over to New London, Ct. and spent a day in Mystic, Ct. Seaport Museum.....we also took the ferry over to Shelter Island and had lunch there....even in the winter the area is so interesting but more importantly, The Perch has everything one could want for an peaceful retreat and Venetia and Chris' hospitality made our visit so enjoyable that we will want to return as soon as we can......

About the owner: Hello. I'm Venetia. I live in this extraordinary place with my partner Chris. I grew up in England in gorgeous English countryside and gardens; came to live and work in NYC in 1978; became a US Citizen in 1991; and have my own consulting business coaching people to speak with power, impact and inspiration. It's the most enjoyable work I've ever had.
Why the Owner Chose Orient:
I still don't believe the good fortune (and hard work) that allowed me to buy this house in 1981. I adore this little tip of land at the end of Long Island's North Fork. If you want peace, quiet and beauty, you can get it here even at the height of summer. And if you want to socialize and go out, it's not far away. But it you like to be surrounded by things going on, activities, shops, sounds, parties... this is probably not for you.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Every person who comes to visit this house -- from tradespeople, friends, visitors and our families --- gasp when they reach the back of the house and see the views! It's a very simple house as you approach the front, but from the deck at the back and every single window you see beautiful views and pictures.
