I am from the area but have lived away for nearly 20 years and wanted to enjoy camp experience in the UP again. The cabin was all we had hoped for--it was roomy and well stocked. The owner was more than helpful and on our first morning there he stopped by to show us how to start the gas fireplace and to see if we had any questions. We have 5 kids and there was more than enough room. We loved Lake Michigamme and took our kayaks out on it. Pros: King size bed in master bedroom, VERY well stocked kitchen and lines/towels, gas fireplace, the firepit area and dock. CONS: none that we encountered. Would definitely rent again.Recommended for: Families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

My wife and I stayed here for a week in August 2012. We were very happy with both the house and the location. The house is very well equipped. It's expansive, comfortable, and has a great view of the lake. We enjoyed eating at the picnic table overlooking the lake, spending late evenings around the fire pit on a lower terrace, and sitting one evening on the enclosed porch facing the lake. The kitchen had everything we needed. The house – including the bathroom (an issue especially for my wife) – was very clean upon our arrival. The dock has a boat lift, so once we put our fishing boat into the water at a nearby landing, it stayed there until our departure. The lake is large but has an intimate feel due to the many islands. It's not a busy lake; other than the occasional fishermen (and women), we saw jet skis only a couple of times and only one speedboat. There are houses along the shore in places, but most are set back from the water and almost camouflaged, giving the lake a wilderness feel. In addition to putting fish on the table all week, we picked wild raspberries that were ripe and sweet in the woods between the house and the highway. Mark is a good host. We highly recommend.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+.

Loved the view of the lake and how peaceful the location is. The neighbors were very friendly. The cabin had everything you need for your stay. The only problem I had was the water. It is loaded with iron and the cabin needs a water purification system which is a necessity on this lake. If you wash clothes, they will spot. If you want to rent a boat, see Bernie in Champion. Fishing was great from the dock.Recommended for: Families with teenagers.
