Make your stay a memorable one with comfortable queen-size beds, a spacious ocean-view home, and many amenities. Easy parking too!
Our two-bedroom home was built in 1936, and has hardwood floors, crown molding, formal living and dining rooms, gourmet kitchen (with everything you need to prepare full meals), and romantic wood burning fireplace. In the center of the house there is a glass-ceiling atrium, filled with palms, anthuriums, orchids, and other tropical plants. There are spacious views of the Pacific Ocean and Marin Headlands from each bedroom, with gorgeous sunset views (when it isn't foggy, of course!).
We love bed and breakfasts, and have included many of their amenities, including thick fluffy towels, high quality soaps and shampoo, a 52-inch plasma TV (for Netflix, HuluPlus and DVDs only--no regular television), and free coffee and teas. In the event you arrive late and can't shop, we provide milk and cereal to get you going in the morning. Our comfy queen-size beds have thick mattress pads and comforters, and 500-count cotton sheets.
Although ours is officially the safest neighborhood in San Francisco, we provide a small safe which you may use to store your (small) computer and other valuables. And there is an inflatable bed which we will provide for a fee, in case you wish to stash a child or two on the living room floor to sleep.
Our home is furnished in a comfortable, eclectic style, with items collected over the years from travel, auctions, and gifts from friends and families. If you happen to be a PG Wodehouse fan, you are in luck; we have a great collection of his books, as well as many other authors you may enjoy.
Every neighborhood in San Francisco has something to recommend it. We love our neighborhood, the Inner Sunset, for its great shops and restaurants, quiet wide streets, and lovely parks. Garrison Keillor, host of 'A Prairie Home Companion' on NPR, recently listed the Inner Sunset as one of the four top places to visit in San Francisco, along with Golden Gate Park (4 1/2 blocks from our home), Muir Woods and the Golden Gate Bridge.
Our area is safe and quiet, with low housing density and good on-street parking. In the 18 years we have lived here, we never parked more than one block from the house. There is good access to downtown and other neighborhoods via the N Judah trolley line, 2½ blocks from our house. We are about 12 blocks from the renowned UCSF Medical Center, for those who will be visiting family there.
This part of the City has many large parks nearby, which offer beautiful, secluded walks, large trees, many great music events, museums, and much more.
After a long day of work--or sightseeing-- it's great to walk on the beach (ten minute drive from house), then go to one of the numerous inexpensive restaurants within a short walk or drive of our home. On one of those cold, foggy nights, just hunker down at home, light the fireplace or watch a movie and order takeout.
We want you to have a great stay in the city we are proud to call home. We live in a separate downstairs unit, and are always willing to help with maps, suggestions on places to eat, and things to do. Bon voyage!

My stay in San Francisco was enjoyable, largely due to the fact that I stayed in this lovely 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom home in the Inner Sunset neighborhood. The owner of the home personally left a handwritten note to welcome my housemates and me, and he even came to visit to ensure we had everything we needed! He was very responsive to text messages and phone calls, which made preparations for (and our actual stay) very pleasant.
The home was well equipped with supplies. There were snacks available to munch on, cooking utensils, extra blankets/pillows, toiletries, a safe, internet access, maps, movies, books, and all I would need to wash my clothes and dishes.
We were located very close to wonderful restaurants, which were within a short 3-5 minute drive. We could hop on public transportation within a couple blocks of the house to get downtown and to other parts of the city, which were very convenient. My housemates rented a car, and it was so easy for them to find free street parking within a block of the home.
Overall, this was a great place to stay and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the San Francisco area.

We at Shelley and John's wonderful apartment for 4 nights. The apartment was spotlessly clean, completely equipment and beautifully furnished. We found all we needed to make coffee in the morning and there were even cookies to snack on. The location of the apartment is outstanding. It is on a quiet street residential street with plenty of easy parking. It is walking distance to Golden Gate Park and some very good restaurants. It was easy to get to all parts of the city or to get out of the city for day trips. We will happily stay at Shelley and John's lovely apartment when we are back in SF.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Having this house as our base camp in the city made our trip perfectly balanced. The city is exciting and full of so much to see and do, and having a private place that is quiet and beautiful made it possible for us to more fully enjoy our time because we could relax and meet the next day recharged and refreshed. The kitchen was a joy to cook in, so we cooked breakfasts and packed lunches there, returning in the evening to pop something in the Viking oven for dinner. The little solarium in the middle of the house warms the home nicely in the day, and this in combination with the cross-breeze when we opened up the windows in the front and back of the house made it quite comfortable. Hiking up the mosaic staircase, just a block away, and up to Grand View Park for sunset is a perfect end to the day. The public transportation is very easy to use from here, boarding MUNI's N-line a few blocks down the hill. Thanks to John and Shelley for having us at this great house and letting us use your CA Academy of Sciences passes; they worked for two adults and three children! I would definitely stay here again.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

1st Class quality residence. It's generously stocked with essentials in the realms of needs and the furniture, fittings and space is vast. The location is convenient for Muni tram/bus travel into town, three blocks from the Golden Gate Park. There's ample space to park a car 30 yards around the corner. The information provided by the owners before and on arrival is very informative and comprehensive. The excellent view from the bedroom windows , fog permitting, is out to the Pacific. There's a large Supermarket within a mile's drive. John and Shelley are welcoming and helpful hosts who reside on the lower floors of the extremely well-maintained three storey house. The Upper floor is yours exclusively. We can't recommend it strongly enough as you'll want for nothing and I promise you will not be disappointed. We'd certainly choose it again on any return to SF.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

My parents and I had fantastic 3 day stay at this great and very spacious 2 bedroom apartment - which really felt like home away from home. Extremely well equipped kitchen, loads of books to read and movies to watch (although TV is in master bedroom not the living room) in a central location a few blocks up from Golden Gate Park, loads of restaurants and the tram to get into down town. John was a very kind and generous host who we really enjoyed meeting and really hope to have the pleasure of coming back to San Fran and stay in this beautiful home with great views from both bedrooms. Excellent value for money and one of the very rare places that does not charge a deposit or cleaning fee. We also had a car rental and had no problems whatsoever finding parking on the street outside the house.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

Of all the VRBO rentals we have stayed in over the years, this was the best. I can't decide what I loved most about this house: the inner courtyard where we enjoyed coffee every morning, the amazing views of the Pacific ocean from both bedrooms, the great location, fantastic kitchen.... I could go on and on. John and Shelley were both very helpful and extremely nice. The house is beautiful and beautifully furnished, and the beds are very comfortable. Next time we are in SF, we hope to stay here again, and again, and again.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

We recently stayed at John & Shelley's home. We can't rave enough about it, it was the best accommodation of our 6 week trip. John & Shelley were wonderful hosts, so welcoming & very helpful. We had emailed several times before our arrival & their replies were very quick, they sent a comprehensive information pack before we arrived which was very helpful. Their home is amazing, so comfortable (the best beds ever) it is very well appointed, with everything you need & more. The location is great & the views are fantastic. Street parking was no problem & transport nearby. We have absolutely no hesitation to recommend John & Shelley's home. Owner response: Thanks Trish. We appreciate the kind review, and are glad you enjoyed yourselves. We really try to make our home comfortable and enjoyable, and are happy you agree. Best wishes, John and Shelley

I stayed for a few nights in this house with my mom and we had so much fun! The owners were extremely hospitable and generous - I wanted to hang out with them as much as possible! They hand wrote directions to their favorite restaurants, which were the perfect balance of casual dining and really good food; they let us use their passes to the science museum, which my mom and I both loved (and their passes saved us from paying the $35/person fee to get in); they filled the fridge with good food and wine; and I haven't even mentioned how spectacular the actual house is! The furniture and decorations are spot on and the place feels comfortable and interesting. The kitchen literally has everything you could possibly need to cook and bake: a kitchen aid and a blender and a beautiful gas stove and spices and cookbooks and nice cutlery and pots and pans etc. Then there's the atrium with a nice array of succulents and other exotic plants. And the great windows that look to the west out to the Pacific. I could just go on and on. The house was spectacular and the owners, well I would feel honored to call them friends.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

My husband, son and I thoroughly enjoyed our weekend holiday getaway in this lovely home! The owners are great at responding to any questions or needs you have. Every amenity has been provided. This is a very eclectic home that was a warm and welcoming retreat on a cold and rainy weekend. Take my advice – run down to the local supermarket and cook in the well-equipped kitchen. We are so happy we did! If you do venture out to eat, the owners provide a comprehensive list of local eateries. We highly recommend Park Chow – great food and ambience! We are very familiar with San Francisco and were happy to experience a new neighborhood. Inner Sunset is lovely, quiet, and has great views! We hope to be back soon. Thank you for a great stay!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.
Owner response: We very much appreciate your kind review. While there are plenty of restaurants in San Francisco (over 4000 of them, by some counts) it's often most relaxing (and way cheaper) to cook at home and spend time with friends and family. As travelers ourselves, we very much appreciate having a nice kitchen with everything we need provided--so we have tried to do the same here. And we're glad you discovered the Inner Sunset neighborhood; it's truly one of our favorite areas of the City.

This may well have been the best Vacation rental I've experienced. My partner and I stayed here for six nights, 10/10 til 10/16. It would be hard to think of one thing that the hosts overlooked. This is a very well maintained two bedroom home in the Inner Sunset neighborhood of San Francisco. There are two bedrooms, a full kitchen with every appliance and accoutrement you would ever need, bath with separate toilet and a large living room and dining room. there are plenty of towels and other linens. The beds are comfortable, large queen sized. There is plenty of closet space. There is also a small breakfast room, perfect for two, with live plants and in a covered atrium. The house is decorated stylishly and with a sense of fun. The books in the book cases are actually volumns that you would consider reading, lots of Wodehouse and Mark Twain. I reread Mapp and Lucia while i was there. The owners live downstairs and couldn't be less intrusive, but at the same time, always cheerfully available to answer questions or help out. Each bedroom has a large window that overlooks western San Francisco all the way to the ocean. It's a memorable view. The neighborhood itself is not one that many tourists get to so there is a feeling of experiencing real life in the city. There are many interesting shops, restaurants and businesses at Irving and 9th Avenue which is ashort tram ride away. There is an interesting Asian nieghborhood with many stores and shops quite close by and a Safeway supermarket that you could walk to but should probably use the car or take a bus for convenience. The only caveat some will have is the distance from the main tourist areas of the city. I wll try to be utterly honest in why this should not be a concern. It is a ten to fifteen minute walk from the house to the N Judah tram line which gets you to 9th and irving in about five minutes, to the Castro (Noe and Duboce or Church and Duboce) in about twenty minutes and downtown in under thirty minutes. The trams are frequent, comfortable and safe and run as late as we ever required. (the N Judah has niteowl service also). Additionally you can easily hop on a number 28 bus to the N Judah if you don't feel like walking. There are various MUNI travel deals you can use. Street parking is very easy and safe and usually within a few meters of the house. Considering the cost of even an ordinary hotel room inthis city, this place is an amazing bargain. I heartily recommend this rental!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you very much for the detailed review. When we go traveling and use vacation rentals, the comments section fills in lots of important details for fellow travelers. So it is with your review. We understand that sitting down and writing a review when you just get home from a long trip is not high on anyone's list of things to do, so we much appreciate the effort.

About the owner: We are long-time San Francisco residents. We live in a separate unit downstairs (don't worry; lots of soundproofing between us) and are available for assistance. We enjoy hosting friends and family, and showing them our adoptive city. Our beloved dalmatian, Penny, lives with us, along with her little mutt sidekick, Bella.
Why the Owner Chose Inner Sunset:
We love the Inner Sunset neighborhood as it offers lots of parks, and easy access to the ocean and downtown, as well as to the wine country. It is a safer, quieter and less-congested neighborhood than much of San Francisco, yet offers many excellent shops and restaurants. Major public transportation 2 1/2 blocks away. On street parking always available within one block.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
This is a charming house, offering privacy and great views, lots of architectural details, and about 1500 square feet of space. The atrium, where we grow our tropical plants, adds a lush, colorful space in the center of the home.
