We rented all three yurts, had 14 family members there for a 3 day weekend in Jan 2013. The weather was unseasonably warm, daytime in the low sixties, nights fifties. We enjoyed bonfires in the evening, roasting marshmellows. The yurts were easy to ventilate with the openable top lid. Everything worked just fine, even the inflatable mattresses. The morning low lying clouds on the nearby peaks made for a storybook view The decks are spacious, We used the gas grill (provided) to cook supper. The location is fairly far from town so try to stock up on food to avoid multiple trips to the store. This getaway exceeded all our expectations. Highly recommended. Book it now.

My wife an I stayed in the Nantahala yurt (24-feet, king sized bed, mini-kitchen) Friday 11/16 Sunday 11/18. It was a fantastic experience. Just driving into the Sky Ridge property is a joy itself, with great views. The location was ideal for us. Probably about 2 miles to the NOC and a short 15-minute drive to downtown Bryson City and the Deep Creek section of Great Smokey Mountains National Park. Once you get up to the property, you can see they put a lot of effort into making it first class. The view, for the money, is unrivaled. We were fortunate enough to have the whole property to ourselves for the weekend, which I think is a little unusual. Next time we'll make sure to bring things for cooking out and having a campfire, both located right out of the back of the yurt. There is also a picnic table setup directly where you'd want it to be, staring off to the mountain ranges. The yurts themselves are extremely comfortable and well made. The pictures are a perfect representation. Temperature control is great as we were always able to get the yurt quickly heated up in the evening or cooled down in the afternoon, which we had been a bit anxious about.Honestly, this is the best value VRBO experience I've ever had, with the quality far exceeding the expenditure. Can't wait to come back, perhaps bringing friends next time!

My husband and I came for a week to this beautiful location at the beginning of summer to celebrate his arrival home from deployment and had an amazing time. The kitchen was perfect for the days when it was raining and we wanted to stay in and cook and relax. Melissa has done a great job of trying to bring all the comforts of home and extra details for guests to enjoy and it was perfect. Upon suggestion we checked out local shopping, restaurants, and activities and were very happy with all of her suggestions. The view was great both rainy and sunny and we can now say that we have stayed in a yurt. I was able to fulfill my husbands desire to camp, only in style.....and with a bathroom. We will be back many more times!!

We had a great time staying in the yurt! It is such an unusual structure, but amazingly nice! The property is like new, nothing is worn or old-looking. Melissa was great to work with and recommended several fun activities in the area. I would definitely stay here again and have already recommended it to several friends. Book it and enjoy - you won't regret it!

What an amazing adventure this was! We had never had a yurt experience and were blown away by the beauty of the natural surroundings and the glamour of the accommodations. Who would have expected marble counter tops and stainless steel appliances with spacious living areas and comfortable beds when "camping." Whoever began the use of the term "glamping" had surely visited these yurts. We enjoyed eating breakfast on the deck picnic table, lunch in the spacious dining area, and back on the deck again for dinner, enjoying food, wine, and companionship while watching the sun set behind the mountains. We made the short trip to the Nantahala Center twice, walking along the river, another beautiful and invigorating spot. We loved all the stone work at the yurts, a really nice touch to the hardscape., An especially fun experience was at the beautifully built fire pit where we made s'mores with our grandchildren the last evening. It really doesn't get better than this! We will surely be back.

I just had a fantastic weekend here. The exceptional view from the terrace felt like as if I could touch the clouds and the mountains and make you forget you have all the amenities behind you in your Yurt. It is amazing, that a Yurt can accommodate a slate bathroom, full kitchen, central air, center dome skylight and hardwood floors. Two minutes down the road are all the restaurants, homemade ice-cream shop, white water rafting rental and the national forest with plenty of activities such as Zip Line. We enjoyed the solitude of the place, but we also explored the area and made an activity/fun to-do- list that will take a week or more to put a dent into. The place looked great and maintained with great firepit and stone pattio. Definitely a must revisit place for us and I would remomment it.

This is truly a unique and beautiful place to stay in the mountains. You can't ask for a better view from the decks of the yurts. The yurts are really comfortable with central heat and air, supper comfortable beds, and everything you could possibly want or need. When you think of staying in yurt you don't expect to get granite countertops, slate showers with glass doors and all the comforts of a really nice hotel or cabin. It was a big surprise how the owner has gone the extra mile to make sure you have a great stay here. The location is wonderful since your only a few minutes away from great rafting, hiking, zip lining, swimming and biking. Really can't say enough nice things about Sky Ridge Yurts. The only negative is that at some point you have leave!!

I hesitate to post a review because a part of me wants to keep this treasure all to myself! This was our first time experiencing a Yurt and "glamping". And it exceeded our expectations. The Yurt was beautiful! We were in the large Yurt which has a separate bedroom. Very clean, roomy, nice decor, etc. The location is fantastic. You are nestled on this wonderful private mountain with unobstructed views. We were so surprised at how nice the accommodations were. Plenty of towels, large kitchen area, sofa and chairs roll out to mattresses and even the air mattresses were comfortable! Being kayakers we spent all day down at the Nantahala Outdoor Center which is less than 2 miles away. It was so nice to be able to run up to the Yurt, get cleaned up and run back down to NOC for the evening. Perfect location! We are already planning our next trip.

Thanks again for providing us a beautiful, wonderful place to enjoy during our vacation. You have a lovely set up and I was so surprised to see how beautiful and comfortable you made the Yurt. The bed was dreamy and it was so great to have satellite TV. I was surprised that you stocked the cabinetry with dishes, utensils and little necessities like that. I was so excited just to have the availability that I completely forgot to ask what amenities come with it. To have supplied plush towels was like staying in a 5 star hotel. When we stepped outside to take a look at the fire ring it was also quite amazing to see that you supplied chopped wood! Wow! I was so delighted at all the little details and cannot wait to share your property with all my friends and co-workers. I can think of many that love to come to the mountains and would love to stay in your “palace”. I must say when we sat out back around the campfire, that the mountain view was absolutely breath taking. I have a favorite quote that crossed my mind while I was enjoying the lovely view….. ”Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away” I felt at peace with our dear Mother Earth while on your property. Thank you for your generosity and opening up your heart to us. It was truly the BEST trip we ever had in the mountains.

My husband, our two children and myself stayed at Sky Ridge along with my brother and his family for three nights. Not ever having seen a yurt before we didn't know what to expect. We were amazed and excited when we reached the top of Sky Ridge and saw the yurts and our beautiful view for the next few days. All three of the yurts were beautifully decorated, well outfitted and comfortable. We all slept great and had a great view of the night sky through the dome of the yurt. Sky ridge is in close proximity to many things so our schedule was packed of fun things to do. We went to Fontana Lake and enjoyed seeing the dam, we hiked and had a picnic and then drove and hiked at the Tsali recreation area on the same day after lunch. We also enjoyed a day of hiking at the beautiful Joyce Kilmer forest and driving around lake Santeetlah and the dam. The best part of all the nights was building a fire at the stone fire pit and seeing the kids have fun cooking their hot dogs and s'mores. After the kids were tucked in, the adults enjoyed good wine, a warm fire and a gorgeous star filled mountain sky. I highly recommend making the trip to sky ridge... we all cannot wait to go back!

                      Year Purchased: 2011

About the owner: I'm Melissa, and I own and manage Sky Ridge Yurts. When my mother told us she was going to live in a yurt full-time, we all thought she had lost her mind. But, once her dream 'home' arrived at her back door, we all knew she was on to something. And, as we all helped her erect the yurt as a family, we all knew that there is really nothing like staying in the openness of these round, domed structures. And, as interest in her yurt grew and people came from far and wide to see it, I knew that offering a place for people to experience what we had all learned about yurts would be something worth doing, so here I am.

Why the Owner Chose Bryson City:
I have always felt like Sky Ridge was somehow hand-picked especially for me. My husband, a professional cyclist, was tragically struck and killed while riding in 2010, and I wanted to do something to earn income that would allow me to continue to stay home with our two young daughters. I saw Sky Ridge by accident on a junk email, and I knew it was for me. Just one mile from the Nantahala Outdoor Center, North Carolina's premiere white water rafting area, my husband and I spent most of our early life together running this river as guides. Then later, once he became a cyclist, our attentions turned to Tsali, which offers mountain bikers an unforgettable riding experience, and it's just a quick ten minute ride from Sky Ridge. Couple that with the Appalachain Trail nearby, the Cherokee Indian Reservation, and the Smoky Mountain National Park - where the two of us spent practically every vacation ever taken - all within a thirty minute drive, and I just knew this was the place to put the yurts. But it's the view that will get you. Backed on all sides by National Forest Land, you won't believe that view.

The Unique Benefits at this Hotel:
All of our guests have their favorite experiences at Sky Ridge. Some things we've heard guests say is the stone campfire ring, which offers guests a chance to meet new friends around a roaring fire. Or the way the clouds roll into the valley below, showing guests just why they are called the 'Smokies'. Or the beds....for some reason, everyone seems to love the way the beds sleep. Or the fact that Sky Ridge is so close to all of the big ticket attractions that the Western North Carolina Mountains have to offer. But I think the luckiest of guests are the ones that get to stay during a rain shower. Rain usually means a bum day on vacation, but in a yurt, it means a lazy day inside, listening to the sound of the rain striking the tent fabric. Music to most ears!
