What can I say about Berkeley? It is home to one of the world's great universities and is known for the high concentration of fine eating establishments including Chez Panisse by Alice Waters, the Cheese Board Collective, as well as the first ever Peet's Coffee & Tea Shop. Sidewalk cafes, bakeries, coffee houses, wine shops, boutiques, artisan home decor, and flower stands all lend the area a European ambiance. Fourth street has fine shopping in a variety of stores.
Berkeley also features two major theater companies as well as numerous small theater groups, symphonic and chamber orchestras, Cal Performances, several movie houses, and museums.
Come and enjoy!!

We spent a lovely 4 days as Jean's guests. In for a family wedding, this apartment offered a respite from the activities and hubbub of all the wedding events. Far enough from the UC campus to miss the noise and clutter of a student-populated area. Set in the hills, near a lovely rose garden park, and safe for those of us who enjoy brisk walks up and down the hills. I would definitely recommend this space for rental.Recommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers.

We had the best stay at our new home away from home in Berkeley. Jean was a gracious host and we felt most welcome from the moment we arrived. We were on the go during our entire week long stay visiting our son at UC Berkeley Haas and it was so nice to come back to our apartment at the end of each day to relax and unwind. The apartment was clean, well equipped and the bed was the most comfortable bed we ever slept in. The shower was the best as was the Direct TV and the views of the bay. Jean had a bottle of wine, coffee, OJ and other goodies waiting for us when we arrived in addition to an offer of a ride to the store to stock up. The apartment is a right on the bus route and the local car rental companies will pick you up and drop you off if you want to rent a car. It is also a great downhill walk to and from the UC Berkeley campus and an easy walk to the BART. We will be back for sure next time we visit.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

This suite was perfect for my long weekend in Berkeley. It was so comfortable (especially the fantastic bed), the view and location perfect, and in my little white rental Fiat, I felt truly immersed in the Berekely culture while I was there. I would highly recommend this rental. I hope I get to come back sometime! Thanks to the property owner for such a warm welcome and stay!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

We have stayed twice at this wonderful spot. The first was for a week the second time for 3 weeks. We loved it. It is a short walk to Solano Avenue (20 minutes) where there is a very nice selection of places to eat. Taking the 65 bus to the Downtown Berkeley BART station is a snap and from there the whole Bay Area is yours. I rode the 65 bus most mornings and met very interesting people. I also walked to the UC Campus (25 minutes down, 27.5 minutes up) and that works as well. We would definitely recommend this rental. Jean is a great VRBO hostess, helping to make our stay perfect in so many ways. She is VERY knowledgeable about the area. With a view of the Bay, San Francisco and Marin, this place is just hard to match.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this VRBO in Berkeley. The description and photos of the apartment were quite accurate, although the real unit was even better than portrayed in the pictures! The owner was a delightful gal whom we met on arrival. The apartment was clean and neat, and very appealing the way it was decorated. The owner had even stocked the frig with goodies for breakfast and some snack items - a nice surprise!! She was most helpful in answering questions we had about the area, as it was out first trip to Berkeley. We hope to visit the area again in the near future, and hope this apartment is available when we do. We would definitely recommend this lovely, comfortable apartment to any of our friends or relatives! What a great place with a wonderful view, too.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

My wife and I are Cal graduates from many moons ago, and we return to visit Berkeley often, but this was the first time we have stayed in the North Berkeley hills. It definitely won't be our last. Jean's unit is ideal -- private, comfortable, a home away from home. Everything is clean, functional, in good taste, and accurately described in her listing. The bed is firm and we slept great, the shower has a "rain" showerhead and plenty of hot water, there is flat screen cable TV on a mounted swivel, fast Wi-Fi, a well stocked kitchen, etc. etc. The views are fantastic -- S.F. Bay right outside the kitchen window, patio, and sitting areas. The location is fantastic, with the Rose Garden and local parks in walking distance, and shops and restaurants nearby. We did not get a chance to meet Jean in person as she was visiting family, but she made sure to stay in contact and arranged for a neighbor to help out if we needed anything (which we didn't). Highly recommended for any couple or single traveler visiting the area. We will certainly return.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, tourists without a car.

My husband and I stayed for 5 days and that was not long enough for us. We enjoyed our stay so much and look forward to a return stay at one of the most charming lodgings in Berkeley area. Furnished and decorated with charm and (may I say) good taste!! Now for the view, well what can I say other than the view was a spotless as the cottage. A very special place to call your home away from home. It was our pleasure to have been there.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
