lots of beds, a few problems

Guest: Andrew Z.
Date of Stay: 08/06/11 Review Submitted: 09/13/11

Almost all the beds were fine , except one on the first floor- it sagged badly in the middle. The bathroom screens were missing so we had lots of flies with us for awhile. It would have been a nice heads up on the bear situation in the backyard. The religious zealots next door were a bit of a surprise as well. About a half dozen lights were burned out on the porch, by the steps leading to the yard and in the kitchen and bedrooms. I don't fault the owner as much as the caretakers for most of these problems. We did have a great stay despite these problems. Hope the house made it through the floods of Irene.

Owner response:The sagging bed and the screens have been replaced and the light bulbs were changed immediately after a call to the caretaker. The house is located in the country and I can't control the bears, nature or someone's relious preference. I appreciate the reviewers time invested in making my house better and future renters happy.

Good house for large groups

I'll start with the issues we had with this property, but there is a lot of good things to say too. The pictures and description of this house are misleading. Maybe the main kitchen/great room area had a new floor put in within a few years, but besides for that, this house is not renovated at all. It is an older house, albeit with some charm. Also, there are two houses very close by and the house is on the main road through town---although the pictures might lead you to believe it stands alone in a quiet setting. The nearby lake has "No Swimming" signs and is not anything special (it has a ton of algae as well). Lastly, the pictures of this house are quite old as the couches and carpets look like they have taken a beating. Nevertheless, if you are with a large group of people (we were about 15), this house does offer a lot of beds and access to nearby sights. The kitchen/den area is large and good to hang out in. There is a cool little hot tub in the back yard. There is a brand new washer/dryer and plenty of parking. I'll put the disclaimer out there that we can be a little "picky' with places we stay, but if you are the type who is just happy to have a bed and access to the nearby area, this house is for you. We really expected to be staying in a newly renovated home, this house is just not that. However, the owner was very nice and addressed our concerns accordingly. If this house got a little more TLC it would have a ton of potential!

Owner response:I am the owner of the Grateful Bed House and always look to improve my property. The pictures accurately depict the interior and exterior. I the living room and a family room the furniture is less than 5 years old, purchased at Raymour and Flannagan. The appliances, windows and electric have been updated within the last 5 years and the hot tub is two years old and we just purchased a new foosball table last week. I can't control the algaa in a public lake. I employ a house manager who lives accross the street that responds to any needs of the renter.

My annual Father's Day Weekend has been held here for the past 3 years. The house is perfect for all our needs. Big porch to host the poker games and plenty of beds to crash in. Not to mention the endless supply of golf course's all within a few miles of the Greatful Bed. Looking forward to this years festivities. Thanks for the house Nora.

Awesome rental!

Ten of us stayed here for 3 nights and 4 days. The house was awesome and very spacious! The location was fantastic and was a very short walk to all the bars and restaurants. Also very close to the mountain. We have already decided to turn this into an annual trip! Thanks Nora!
