We had a small family reunion at this cottage on Lake Oakland. My wife said the cottage is nicer than the pictures describe. The cottage is set up with all the amenities of a fun home, with no reason to be bored. Easily accessible with good information provided for local fun. I would recommend to a family or friend. We had choices for grocery shopping or dining out that made it easy to be entertained. We also enjoyed sitting out in the back with the lake view and it's activities. My son was able to fish daily, if not from the paddle boat provided then from our own motorized row boat. The DTE theater was just Down the road, with lawn ticket coupons available at local stores. All in all a good experience with needed relaxation time. Mike K.

We had a wonderful fime. It was a beautiful lake. Overall, we were pretty happy with the accomodations. The owner was quick to respond to my emails, but was not local. I loved the log cabin feel and we enjoyed sleeping in the loft bedroom with the ceiling fan. A couple of notes for both the owner and future guests. Although the property had a " sandy beach," the lake bottom in front of the house was pretty mucky and weedy, so our little ones were not able to play in the water in front of the house as we had hoped. We had rented a pontoon boat, so we just anchored out in the lake and spent the days swimming. It was a beautiful, clear lake - but also had lots of traffic. We were suprised by the bad boating etiquette from other boaters. Boats drove too close - way under the 100 yds as stated by law - and went by way too fast - even though we were anchored and swimming with a toddler. The bedrooms were pretty nice, but the mattress on the twin bed could use an upgrade. It was fine for a child, but an adult would sink in it. The house had obviously been cleaned before we got there, but the floors, corners and shelves could have used a better cleaning. We live by a river, so I am used to spiders, but the cobwebs needed to be knocked down more. Especially with a toddler that gets into everything. The kitchen was small but worked. However, it only had some basic pots and pans, no soup pan and I couldn't find a knife sharp enough to slice raw potatoes. As far as spices/seasonings - there was salt, pepper, and Ms. Dash.. Luckily I brought along Garlic salt and some other seasonings. We ended up eating out more than expected. For renters with toddlers, bring lots of extra-wide baby gates. Because of the "open" design, there were no doors to the stairways and they were very wide openings. The half-wall around the stairs only had the frame of a wall, no actual wall, so there were foot-wide spaces between beams, and our toddler could have fallen right through to the lower level. We had to keep our empty suitcases in front of the wall to block it off. The main bathroom has been upgraded and it was nice, but very small and no tub. There was no lid on the toilet seat, so we also had to keep that room closed off to the baby. There was a toilet downstairs, but the seat was cracked. The location was great, minutes to everything you needed. I loved the design of the house, it just wasn't a good fit for a family with a toddler.

Owner response: As I have stated to anyone who is interested in renting my cottage is that we add at least 3 yards of beach sandy to our lake front every year. As you know this summer has been very warm in Michigan so this may be the reason for the additional growth in the bay (where our cottage is located). We have nieces and nephews from the age of 1 to 8 who have not had a problem swimming in front of cottage; again we provide a paddle boat for those guests who choose to visit the island to swim. In regards to the house layout it is an open A frame home which has two sets of stairs and there are gates located within the house there is also a high chair and playpen that accommodates families with children we have had several return guest with small children and have never had an issue with the layout. Regarding Lake Oakland it is the finest lake in Oakland County please note this guest visited on the weekend of the fourth of July celebration so I would guess that all the lakes in the area were just as busy. This is a vacation home not a five star resort so if you expect to eat in then yes you will need to provide your own food.

Thank you for allowing us to have a "short term" home for our transition from OH to Clarkston. We enjoyed the beautiful view from the deck, most of all we will recommend your home to our friends when they come to visit.

Our family had a wonderful time here at Coopers Cottage. We spent 10 days here over Christmas and loved looking at the winter wonderland surrounding us. It is a big difference from Houston, TX. I have 2 boys and they really enjoyed Pine Knob and Alpine Valley. We were able to have friends and family come visit. The cottage is such a warm and cozy place.

We wanted a girls weekend away and we got just that ! We drove from around London Ontario Canada ,about a 2 hour drive. We were all very impressed with the Coopers Cottage from the minute we walked in the door. I think I may have said" This is soooo cute "a hundred times!. It was the perfect setting for a girls weekend away to do some shopping at the outlets (Birch Run and Great Lakes crossings). It was cozy and clean . We would recommend this location for families and friends . Karen was fantastic to deal with and always answered any questions. The lake was gorgeous and we were lucky enough to have about 50 swans greet us in the morning. I don't think there is a thing you would need besides clothes and groceries, everything was there. It slept 6 of us ladies comfortably and there were no complaints. Looking forward to making this an annual event. Tammy , Teresa, Jen, Erin ,Jane, and Tracey

We also had a wonderful visit to your lovely home. We really enjoyed the view and sitting out by the lake. We came to town from Toronto Canada to see a few concerts and we hope to be back next year. We also recommend Guidos Pizza and Hamilin Pub. Thanks Coopers for sharing your home. The Dustans

Enjoyed our stay at the Cooper's home. The house was clean and also ,with everything you need in a kitchen ,was stocked with paper goods and cleaning items. Karen was very helpful with any questions and was quick to reply. Our grandson enjoyed the game cube and the sand toys. We cooked out on the gas grill and had fires by the water at night. We spent a day at Independence Park where we did some fishing and our grandson caught his first fish. I Would recommend this house to friends and relatives.

My wife, son, and myself had a great time at your home. We went to a Tiger game, to the mall, and played golf a couple of times. My son was grateful for all of the taped ICarly's you had on the DVR and my wife was thankful that you had the Food Network. Your home was all that was described and we would not hesitate to stay there again if we were to return. One night a full moon rose over the lake that was beautiful. Thanks again for the nice vacation.

Well, where do I begin?? We had such a fabulous time there. We all miss it so much already. It was so roomy, but not fancy so that we had to worry about the kids messing it up or breaking anything. The basement was perfect with the toys and TV. It had tons of eating room which was great. The beach was awesome with all of the toys, as well as the pedal boat. It was so homey and has such a northern feel about it. We enjoyed the fire pit as well. We were thankful that you left the book with all of the info in it. That was helpful and we did visit a few of the parks. But mostly, we just stayed there and enjoyed ourselves. My family is originally from MI, but my own immediate family has grown so much that we can no longer stay at my mom's, so your cottage will be our new place to stay. In fact, we want to stay there the same week next year if you're still renting it out at that time. We just loved it. The kids fished like crazy too.
