Amazing house for a family gathering!
Amazing house for a family gathering!
What an amazing home! We rented this house for the Thanksgiving holiday, and were not at all disappointed. There was plenty of room for 7 adults, 7 children, and 1 big dog. The kitchen was well appointed for the big meal with plenty of cookware and dishes, and we had ample seating. The manager, Rick, was extremely accommodating, friendly and helpful in getting our stay arranged. It had recently snowed quite a bit, but the roads were cleared and the snow on the very large property provided hours of enjoyment for all the kids. The views were incredible. If you choose to go into town it's a fairly quick 20 minute drive, though we spent most of our time enjoying the solitude of this beautiful mountain get away. For the past 5 years my family has rented a home in which to gather for Thanksgiving. This one was by far our favorite, and we would love to return to it again.

We have a very large family with grown kids and grandkids. The Sweetwater Springs home was extremely comfortable, large and beautifully decorated. The owners/property manager were very helpful when we needed them and had suggestions for restaurants and things to do in and around Durango. We had a great time tubing down the Animas River with all the kids and grandkids. You can rent tubes just about anywhere in Durango, even at the 9th Street exit area and ride a free trolly up to the river entrance area. We took day trips to Mesa Verde to see the Cliff Dwellings and to Pagosa Springs to soak in the multiple hot mineral baths. Good access to the river there as well and water fun for the family. There was a 4th of July celebration in the park for kids with face painting, magic show, and bands that was a lot of fun as well. We enjoyed a great Mexican food dinner at Gazpacho's restaurant. We would choose this vacation home again.

My buddy and his two teenage sons and I travelled to Durango to ski at Purgatory Mtn. and were lucky enough to happen upon the Sweetwater Ranch home. We didn't want to be too far from the hill so it was perfect - 10 minutes into Durango and a stop at the Durango Doughworks for breakfast burritos; ski rentals from the super-friendly place right across the parking lot; then 20 minutes of beautiful scenic driving up to Durango Mountain Resort. DMR/Purgatory offers great skiing and was so uncrowded it was quite different from most resorts out west. After a long ski day we'd stop by Durango Brewing company for some takeout craft beers and the grocery store right on the way home. The house is large, spacious, comfortable and well-kept, and offers fantastic views in all directions. Watching the sun rise over the mountains from the kitchen was a great way to start the day. In the evening a fireplace fire and barbecue in the driveway was a perfect ending to the day. The owners are local folks and super helpful and generous. No complaints and we will be back again once the snow falls! Highly recommended!

The Unique Benefits at this House:
A walk (or run) on the 'loop' or a hike around the property on well-marked paths is a unique offering at Sweetwater. Plenty of private property to enjoy and the silent beauty of nights with no city lights to obstruct the wonders of the sky.
