  The listing and pictures were right on the mark. Any questions that I had were quickly answered by the owner and her manager and they were also concerned enough to check how our stay was and how it could have been better at the termination of our stay. Just you and the companion or you and the six kids - the best kind of place to stay. Mom and Dad can swim in the ocean and the kids get a choice of three pools. Toys (flippers, paddleboards, floats) are available for a nominal fee. For lazy people, loads of places to lay in the sun. Maui is expensive so the fully equipped kitchen was a heavan sent, expecially with young one. Beds are like sleeping on clouds and I wish I knew where the owner got the most comfortable pillows. Shopping and fast food is a ten minute walk to a shopping mall with a large grocery store. As a Northerner I can olnly say that life couldn't get any better with the perfect weather, fantastic well maintained condo, great facilities. Book with confidence,........... Just waiting for next year!

  My family and I had a lovely 18 day stay at the above property in March/April of 2013 and had a very positive experience. Beginning with the rental process, all our inquieries were answered promptly and correspondance with the owner was warm and courteous. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by the manager of the property without delay. The condo was very clean and well equipped, including all necessary household items such as detergent, papertowels etc, which instantly helped the housewife in me to settle into the advertised "home away from home" feeling. An added bonus were the lawn chairs, boogie boards and cooler we were allowed to use on our excursions to Maui's beautiful beaches. The condo is facing away from the pools and thus is indeed quiet and has an almost secluded feel to it. You can see the ocean from the balcony, but will have to go downstairs to the beach to see the sunset. Honua Kai itself is a wonderful place, especially if you have children. During our stay in Maui we did not come across another resort with such a fun and big pool area, and often chose to relax right there. The beach was lovely; it was never crowded, very gentle waves and even some decent snorkeling. And whales swimming by every day! We would highly recommend Honua Kai and the condo we stayed in. If you like contemporary, tasteful decor and new and modern amenities, you will be very pleased with this property, and share our great vacation experience.

  Wonderful! Beautiful, spacious, luxurious condo, fresh and bright. It is quite well appointed with everything you might need. It is quiet and relaxing with a nice view of both the mountains and the ocean. The lanai is amazing, with the doors all the way open it is like having an outdoor living room! Our family of four (2 adults, 2 children ages 10 and 7) fit in the space very well. We loved the whole resort. It is a luxurious complex on a great beach and close to many other great spots. The busier Kaanapalli strip is minutes away by car and a healthy walking distance along a beautiful boardwalk. There is great snorkeling at Napili Bay and Kapalua Bay which are only a short distance away, as are the shopping and dining areas in Lahina. Our kids loved the different pools and the beach just in front of the resort. Exercisers will enjoy the gym or running on the beach or boardwalk. This is our third trip to Maui and we cannot recommend this place enough. Maureen was very easy to work with, reserving, checking in and out were a breeze. We can't wait to come back!

  The unit was exceptionally clean and nicely decorated. Everything we could want was available. The owner was very helpful, answering all our questions promptly and completely. I would feel very comfortable recommending this rental to friends and family.

  We stayed here for part of our honeymoon and had a lovely vacation. The condo is new, clean and the bathroom is HUGE. The location is perfect for exploring the island and we enjoyed having use of pool towels and the resorts many pools. Make sure you have breakfast at Duke's, but skip the super expensive little deli/coffee shop in the lobby. The condo looks out on an empty lot next door that will soon be a new resort. The entire wall of windows in the living room opens up to let in the cool breezes.

  We couldn't have been happier with our experience staying at this rental at Honua Kai. We had never been to Hawaii before and the entire experience -- the rental unit, the hotel, the weather, the scenery, and all the time we spent at the pools and beaches -- far exceeded our expectations. Everything was clean and easy to use, and we grocery shopped and ate virtually all of our meals in the condo, enjoying the use of a well-supplied open kitchen, and the breezy lanai where we sat and ate our meals. The hotel pools were varied in both function and temperature -- what a delight to our senses (and those of our toddler)! We loved the restaurant at the hotel (Duke's) walking/running the adjacent beach walk, seeing whales, and accessing the beautiful beach within steps of our room. The location of the hotel is quite lovely. Just about 10 minutes from downtown Lahaina where we enjoyed several ice cream outings and other sundry shopping. And, we were walking distance from the grocery store! Booking the rental with Maureen was easy. She made herself available and clear, and was very accommodating when our second payment was strangely lost in the mail to her. We were given great directions from the airport, and were greeted by her knowledgeable and friendly personal concierge. We loved every minute, and only wish we would go back every year! We are already saving our $$ for another trip in a few years, and will definitely book this rental with Maureen again. We'll also recommend this rental to our friends traveling to Maui. Our only two small complaints: 1. We wish the hotel had a lap pool, or an area designated for lap swimming. We did our daily laps, but had to meander around families playing water polo. Maybe the hotel will build one?? and 2. We got a lot of attitude at Aina -- the small, upscale grocery store and coffee shop inside the hotel. Not only is it crazily expensive, but the staff is rude. Definitely skip it. Go to Safeway or Times grocery stores and stock up, or go to Duke's just outside by the water -- the staff there is lovely and the food and drinks are great.

  We loved everything about Honua Kai...the pools, Duke's Restaurant, the onsite store...it was all great! The rooms are very nice. We definitely recommend it!

  We have stayed in a few condos or private homes in Hawaii, but not resort hotels. We like the advantages each has to offer, but thought about staying in a resort hotel this trip. The condos were much more reasonably priced so we changed our minds and decided to rent this one at Honua Kai. It was the perfect blend of condo and 4 star hotel. Honua Kai has several pools, the staff is very nice, the grounds are immaculate, the concierge was helpful, and they have tons of activities available. I recommend the welcome breakfast the day after you arrive so you can find out what activities are available. This unit #316 was excellent. It was clean, beautifully decorated, and looks just like the pictures. The bathroom is huge! The lanai is private and it was very quiet on this side. The view is partial ocean as pictured. You didn't feel like you had anyone looking in, but the vacant lot is not the prettiest view. I missed being able to hear the ocean from the room as I have in other properties, but the quality of the condo was much better than others we have stayed in and worth the trade-off. The pool was a little on the cool side so we didn't spend as much time in it as we thought we would. The hot tub was just right, not as hot as some, but comfortable for relaxing, and there are several hot tub areas. The boardwalk was a nice place to walk in the mornings. We saw huge Sea Turtles just up the beach to the North of the property. Snorkeling at Black Rock is convenient, but the day we went we hardly saws anything. Drive up to Honolua Bay to see more fish. It isn't far to the Nakalele blowhole which is also worth seeing. It is a short hike to get the best view and the heart shaped hole in the rock makes a good picture. Maureen and Michelle were easy to work with and answered all our questions. I like the added amenities that may not be found at other condos or hotels, such as a laundry room, in-room safe, and large TV's. The beach chairs and boogie boards were an added bonus. The kitchen was well stocked and even had basics supplies like oil, butter or seasonings which we didn't end up bringing with us and didn't have to purchase. We arrived late on Thanksgiving night and were pretty hungry. Luckily the deli, Aina, was still open and they were so nice. The food was very good too. You can't beat the price for such nice accommodations. We were very happy with our stay and would recommend it to anyone.

  We spent 2 weeks in Maui and had a great time!! Our comments: Maureen: an absolute pleasure to work with. She was very prompt in her responses to my calls/emails and was very accommodating to our needs. Very easy to work with and truly wants guests to have a wonderful holiday. Suite: We had everything that we needed. The kitchen is fully stocked (coffee maker, bbq utensils, storage containers etc…) and there are also beach items to use (umbrella, chairs, buckets and shovels etc). The unit was very spacious and nicely furnished (marble counter tops and bosch appliances read: quiet dishwasher!) Resort: Perfect for families as there are various pools to play in, a water slide and a shallow kids pool that has a sand bottom. And the ocean is only a few minutes walk away. There are a number of public bbqs available which we utilized quite a bit. Dukes restaurant is a decent spot should you want a break from cooking. Staff were very friendly and the grounds are very nice. There is a promenade that runs parallel to the beach connecting the various hotels along the water. There were some windy days but truthfully, without it we would have been too hot. Aina deli – great deli! Again, staff were always friendly and attentive, coffee was excellent, sandwiches were tasty and they seemed to carry most items you may have forgotten. Nanny Service is also available. We hired a nanny one night to go for a lovely dinner and our daughter loved her (Judy) and kept asking for her! There is also a kid’s centre which we did not use as our daughter was too young (needed to be 3) but the room looked adorable and they have many activities planned throughout the day for those kids that do attend. Location: we did end up driving most days but expected this and were not bothered at all by it. DO go to Leoda’s pie shop (Lahaina) for their coconut cream pie! Do go to Merriman’s (Napili) if only to have a cocktail on the deck and watch the sunset but I do recommend dinner, we loved it. There is also a beautiful golf course minutes away that my husband really enjoyed. We were looking for a relaxing and easy vacation and Hanua Kai certainly provided just what we were looking for. We would not hesitate to go back.

  My wife and I had a perfect stay at Honua Kai. Maureen and her local property manager Michelle were great work with and the entire process was smooth and easy. Always received a quick and helpful response to any question. The hotel is in a great spot, on the north side of Kaanapali beach. It's a beautiful beach, not very crowded, and steps from the hotel. The room overlooks the remnants of a new development, which is about attractive as it sounds, but I would HIGHLY recommend the south side of the Hokulani building vs other rooms as it offers privacy and a decent view of the ocean. The room was exactly as advertised; spacious, clean and well-appointed. It had everything we need for our stay. The resort is fantastic, with BBQs, friendly and helpful staff, and immaculate grounds. Definitely a kid friendly resort. My wife and I love kiddos, and it was great to see the families enjoying their vacation, but if you're single and looking to mingle, this would not be the place for you. We would DEFINTELY recommend this unit and hope to stay there again in the not too distant future! While a rental car is not needed, I would recommend it. Our favorite activities included snuba at the resort (with Adam), stand up paddle boarding at the Royal Hawaiian surf school (with Ikailaa), sunrise bike tour down Haleakala with Haleakala Bike Co, and snorkeling at the resort. Best (and most expensive) meal was at Lahaina Grill. Actually had several great meals at Duke's onsite, so definitely don't overlook that spot.
