Attention Active People - Free Mountain Bikes and Kayaks!
- Minimum stay:2 nights
- Internet:No
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
You don't have to be active to stay here, but if you are this is the place for you! Included with your nightly rental rate are 2 mountain bikes (and helmets) for riding the nearby double and single track trails at popular Bent Creek and Mills River Forests. There is also a tandem, sit-on-top kayak that you can use to kayak 7 miles through Biltmore Estate on the French Broad River. Hundreds of miles of excellent, marked road trails are right out of the front door, including the Blue Ridge Parkway. Daily group rides (both road and mountain) leave from area bike shops. There is also a small, working farm on site - vegetables and sorghum (an historic NC crop) are being grown onsite by local farmers, and there are biscuits and molasses for you while you're there (for as long as it lasts!). Opportunities may exist to help with the cane harvest, or maybe you'll be lucky enough to be there when they weed the field with the horse or mule-drawn plow!

This was a fantastic place for our small family. The location was perfect to quickly visit family. And we loved being beside the creeks and garden. With a 5-year-old son, we spent a lot of time exploring and looking for living creatures (frogs, snakes!, and little fish spotted). The size of the house was great, and our son love having the upstairs all to himself. We will absolutely stay here again!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.

I took my two boys, 5 and 7 years old up to the house for a long weekend and had a blast. The property was everything we hoped for to enjoy the outside. Both boys played in the creek even though it was 20 degrees outside. We went snow tubing up at Wolf Ridge only 30 miutes up I-26 and had an awesome hike at the Rec Area just down the street. We will be back :))Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We loved this location. Charming cottage. The most fun was laying on the plank over the brook & dangling my arms so my hands could feel the water while listening to the sound. There are so many nature perks here, mountain view, sunset, big grassy yard... Bring your water shoes or boots to play in the brook! Gorgeous weather. And it's apple season, what more could one ask for! We came home with a back seat full! Excellent orchards 20 minutes away.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

What a fun little farm house this place is!! It is decorated so wonderfully and located in a great area. Very quiet and off the beaten path but still close to restaurants and shops. I also love that there is a grocery store nearby. The place was clean and tidy and everything is well maintained. The porch is wonderful with the little creek creating an amazing setting outside. It was the perfect place for local weddings, like the one we attended at the Arboretum that is only 4 miles away! (Definitely visit there too, it's beautiful!!) The owners were SO nice and friendly and easy to work with as well. I would highly recommend this place!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

What a wonderful place to get away ! Kim and David's cottage is in an ideal location for trips to Asheville, Hendersonville, Brevard and my favorite - Pisgah. We enjoyed several meals on the spacious back porch, picking fresh garden veggies, and exploring the backyard stream.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers.

What a great week we had at this cottage! It is beautifully decorated, in a wonderfully relaxing rural setting, and it worked perfectly for us. My husband and I rented the cottage while visiting our college-age son in the area. Both our son and his older sister spent some time with us during the week, using the huge sleeping loft containing 2 double beds. The cottage is a great value, with the bonus of 2 excellent mountain bikes and a kayak to use while renting. Molasses (made by the farmers on the premises) and biscuits are also included! The cottage was very clean, linens and towels are provided, and the deck on the back of the house has a gorgeous view of the farm and fields. We were centrally located for access to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Brevard, and Asheville. During the week, we enjoyed the the North Carolina Arboretum, a tour of the fabulous French Broad Chocolate Factory, an Asheville Tourists baseball game, the Sunday night Irish Session at Jack of the Wood restaurant, trips to Mt. Pisgah and hiking at Graveyard Fields (beautiful waterfalls), and, last but not least, sampling the local craft brewery selections! We had wonderful meals at Tupelo Honey Cafe and Sunny Point Cafe in Asheville, and Louise's Kitchen in Black Mountain, as well as using the BBQ grill many nights on the cottage's back deck. We highly recommend this lovely cottage, and Kim was a most helpful homeowner, answering all our questions and responding quickly to our emails. You will love this cottage!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Avery Creek Cottage met our expectations and more. We found the house in perfect condition, tastefully decorated and furnished as pictured. We had the thrill of seeing a bear cross the property across Avery Creek as we were sitting at the picnic table our first evening there...Very unusual to see, the Fowlers told us at the garden the next day. The garden provided us with fresh corn, peppers and onions to enjoy with the steaks we cooked on the gas grill provided on the deck. We enjoyed excursions to downtown Asheville, the River Arts District and Biltmore Village, Biltmore Park and the drive to Mt. Mitchell on the Blue Ridge Parkway. We loved sitting on the deck in the early morning and evening watching the birds, chipmunks and deer, enjoying the peaceful, pastoral setting and the slower pace of life. It was a little slice of Heaven! We definitely are looking forward to a return visit.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

If you can possibly schedule a stay during harvest season, do it! We picked fresh okra, onions, corn, beans, peas and lettuce and even made our own zucchini bread straight from the farm. This spacious cabin has everything you need for a great back deck grill-out and a super comfortable bed to collapse in when you're stuffed. WIth the Blue Ridge Parkway, The French Broad and the Arboretum just five minute drives away, you may decide never to go into Asheville :)Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Our group of four very much enjoyed our stay! The house was quaint but also modernly decorated and had just enough space for our group. We enjoyed morning walks down the road that the house was on and also appreciated that it was within a couple minutes of both a gas station and grocery store. The drive into Asheville was not very long and we were able to quickly get downtown for activities while also being able to stay somewhere that felt "out of the way". The owners were very responsive during the reservation process. We would definitely recommend this place! The only items that I would suggest that the owners consider purchasing for the rental are a dish washing scrubber of some sort for the kitchen and a hand soap dispenser and soap for the bath room. We had no problem with the request to wash and put dishes away before we left, but had not thought to bring a kitchen scrubber with us. Similarly, we had brought soap and other toiletries for the shower, but had not realized we needed to bring soap for washing hands. Just a thought. Overall, the house was lovely and we will definitely be back if ever in Asheville again!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for your suggestions - dish scrubber and hand soap are on the way!

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2011
About the owner: We own and operate Beaufort Kayak Tours in the SC Lowcountry, but have always loved the mountains. We purchased this 87 year-old farmhouse in 2011, and have brought it back to life and into the 21st century.
Why the Owner Chose Asheville:
We are avid road and mountain cyclists, and have found this location to be the perfect area to base out of for these activities. As for kayaking, the French Broad River is just three miles from the house and this section passes through one of the most beautiful stretches of this river - 7 miles through the Biltmore Forest property! We are also local foodies and beer lovers, and with the focus on local foods in Asheville and being named Beer City USA for 2 years in a row, this location has everything we wanted in a vacation getaway.
The Unique Benefits at this Farmhouse:
You'll be staying on our farm! We have invited local farmers to use the land surrounding the farmhouse - they will be growing cane for molasses and hops for local beer production - Cheers!
