From start to finish, this was a wonderful place to stay. Ann was very prompt in responding to questions and helpful in finding things to do and places to eat. We had absolutely no hassles. NONE! As far as the house itself, it was extremely clean and well kept. Everything was generously stocked and was welcoming. Mandy, our host, was friendly and showed us all we needed to know. Both she and Ann made sure we had their numbers in the event we had further questions. The front porch is a fabulous place to greet the day with a cup of coffee. It is only 2 miles from the point; and only about 12 miles or so from St. Michaels if you are into some shopping. We were just wanting to relax. PERFECT!! Tilghman Island is a great place to bicycle, walk, and did I say relax? The people there are very friendly and welcoming and seem to enjoy sharing their wonderland with visitors. If you have a chance, GO, and give Ann a call to reserve this place. I don't think you will be sorry.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

My wife and I went there to celebrate our 40th anniversary and at first were hesitant due to the fact we had never rented from VBRO, but our uncertainty was without cause. Hard Head Cottage was more than we expected and from time we arrived and met with our contact person and payed the balance of the rental, we were made to feel at home. Everything described is what you will find and even some other little gems This place is very charming and there is plenty of things to do near by and within easy walking distance. The cottage was very clean and has a very well stocked spice rack for cooking. Large family size fridge and gas stove and oven. The owner was extremely helpful in guiding us to things to do and about the property. The bath towels are very soft and colorful. All linens are provided and very nice as well as soft. For quick lunches or sandwiches, go to the Island Deli and Grill - great hamburgers and homemade onion rings. The owner can tell you some interesting stories! For hand-dipped Hershey ice cream, go to Two If By Sea (2 min. walk on the right), also they have breakfast lunch and dinner. Across the street is Harrison House -great place also for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have an out door crab shack and lots of bay view! Ask for Lynn - great server! Between 2 if by Sea is the Waterman's Museum and open on Sat and Sun 11-3, no charge donations only - the curator can tell you a great oral history of the Waterman! This is one place you will not have any problem recommending to friends or relatives - put it on your list .Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

Owner info
About the owner: Captain Randolph Murphy grew up on Tilghman Island as did his parents and their parents! He and his family have been waterman and local waterfowl guides for many generations. His wife, Ann Fegan, from nearby Sherwood went to Tilghman Elementary school along with Randolph. Tilghman is home for them but travel, work, and other interests have taken them away. They feel it is logical to use their home as a rental during the months they are not there. Lots of interesting art from their travels are on the walls as well as local folk art and the cottage exudes good energy with lots of fun color and whimsy.
Why the Owner Chose Tilghman Island:
The cottage originally belonged to Randolph's grandmother, the infamous 'Miss Lil.' Mention her name to an older local and they will know who you mean. Randolph and Ann struck a deal to purchase the cottage when Miss Lil turned 96 and could no longer manage it alone.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
The cottage and the property it sits on is always complimented by folks passing by. People often stop just to see the flower gardens. The cottage is in the middle of Tilghman and central to everything. Phillips Wharf, an educational environmental center is nearby. There is access to a small boat ramp at Dogwood Harbor and the Skipjack Fleet. One is available for a short informational sail. The Lady Patty docked at Bay Hundred Restaurant is also a great opportunity to sail on the Bay while Capt. Jeffrey Mathias does all the work.
