This 19th century village house is located in the heart of the charming village Villars, in the Luberon Regional Park, Provence. Both the village and the house are just quintessential Provence.
Villars is home to a picturesque square, ideal for watching the world go by and to listen to the gentle falling of the fountain’s water. Here you really get to see local Provencal living at its best.
Not only do you have the square at the centre of the village, but you also have 2 excellent restaurants and a friendly bar, not to mention the fresh bread in the mornings from the village bakery!
The House:
This authentic Provencal home is made up of a cosy living room, with old beams and open fireplace and traditional floor tiling.
The fully equipped kitchen, although recently renovated, still respects the style and charm of the original features. Here you have a great combination of modern and authentic; huge fridge freezer, large oven and dishwasher combined with original features such as the stone walls, French ceilings and old beams. 8 people can eat comfortably at the extendable kitchen table.
Up to the first floor:
On the right is the large bedroom with 2 single beds, old tiling and fitted cupboards.
Across the hallway is a smaller double bedroom, bright and with enough space for yor bedside reading and with the additional feature of fitted cupboards.
Between these two rooms is a bathroom with bathtub, shower-head, sink and toilets.
On the top floor you have another large tastefully decorated double bedroom with sink and en-suite shower.
Opposite this is the “upstairs kitchen” with everything you need (fridge for the rosé, toaster, plates and cutlery) to be able to enjoy your breakfast or evening barbeque on the rooftop terrace. Here you’re in another world with a view of the rooftops, the church spire and surrounding countryside.
There is a table with room to seat 6, a couch and a barbeque for those long balmy evenings watching the swallows play and listening to the ciccadas singing. You also have the olive and lemon tree, the rosemary, lavender and thyme for a bit of typically Provencal decoration.
The surrounding area:
Just a 10 minute drive away is the vibrant town of Apt. Apt is locally and even internationally reknowned for its Saturday morning market. With its cobbled streets and gaily coloured buildings Apt a great place to buy your in-season fruit and vegetables and meat and fish for the barbeque on the roof terrace. Don’t forget to treat yourself to a glass of rosé on one of the many charming terraces.
Local villages not to be missed are Saignon, Rustrel, Saint Saturnin les Apt, Bonnieux, Roussillon, Goult, Lacoste and Menerbes.
If its countryside you’re after there’s plenty of it.
You should certainly visit the “Provencal Colorado” made up of ochre hills, in Rustrel, just 5 minutes away.
You can also go wine tasting in one of the many local wineries or see how lavender and olive based products are made.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2010
About the owner: We are Flore and Ryan Green; Flore is French and from Lyon and I am British from Gloucester. We're joint owners of a property search company for people wishing to buy in France called My Dream Home France and a language company Green Langues. We both love traveling, walking with our 2 daughters and our labrador dog, good food, good drink and generally enjoying life. We're renting our property as our businesses are taking us to Aix en Provence. However it would be nice to keep our property for later on in life and in the meantime be able to share our beautiful home, charming village and this wonderful Provencal countryside with others.
Why the Owner Chose Apt:
We initially bought to live here, which we have been doing for 2 years. We are renting because it is a charming, cosy, home in a wonderful village, which we would love to let you experience for yourselves.
The area is so popular with French and foreigners alike due to the wonderful light, great food and wine and general laid back pace of life.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
What better way to start the day than popping in to the village bakery for fresh bread and enjoying a long lazy breakfast on the roof terrace?
After you have so many choices of things to do: explore the local medieval villages, a bit of shopping at one of the many local markets, go for a wine tasting and have lunch in one of the numerous local restaurants, many of which are just sublime. After that you may need to cool off and rest. Take your nap in one of the double bedrooms - the walls are so thick that the house is always nice and cool, even in the height of summer.
Feeling refreshed and with the weather cooling down you may want to go for a stroll from the house. You won't even need to take your care, as there are plenty of beautiful walks directly from the village.
Back from a bit of exercise, you probably deserve a drink. I would suggest an aperitif at the local village bar, which is extremely friendly and frequented by villagers and tourists alike.
Finish off your day by a barbecue on the intimate roof terrace and a glass or two of local rosé wine.
Vive la Provence!
