If you love rivers as we do, this house will make your vacation! We are right on First Street Rapids Park and have a new foot bridge to the other side of the park and the river trail to town.
The uniquely designed home, by local architect Rick Wright, is in a quiet neighborhood, perched on a hillside, at the end of the street, surrounded by park lands. The location allows for breathtaking views of the river and all the sporty action. Here the Deschutes river takes on a rugged personality. There are sweeping river views and sounds of both class 3 rapids, and wide, gently moving water. In this peaceful and quiet setting you can unwind and let your senses absorb it all. You can walk along the water's edge, through forests of Junipers and Ponderosa pines. You can be alone with nature.
The multi-level home overlooks First Street Rapids Park, Davis Park and the Deschutes River Trail. The locally treasured trail runs miles along the river, connecting with numerous biking trails, all beginning at your doorstep. You don't need a car. Step outside to walk, jog, or bike for miles along the river and discover quiet places and fabulous mountain views. In the wetlands along the trail, are songbirds, osprey, trumpeter swans, otter and beaver. Deer roam the hillsides. Fly fish for trout, launch your canoe or kayak into the river, take a swim, or just sit and absorb the natural beauty. It's all there for your immediate enjoyment.
Inside the beautifully decorated home, the rooms are furnished with comfort in mind. The white walls, wooden beams and furniture create a soft palette for the colorful rugs, pillows, and the owners original photographs and watercolors. The living and dining room are places to gather with family and friends while enjoying the scenery through expansive wall to wall, floor to ceiling windows. A gas fireplace adds warmth with the flip of a switch. The sun room, with river rock walls that absorb the warmth of the sun, is a quiet place to read or nap. The new family room, with a gas stove offers a second gathering place for family and friends to meet. Three large decks flow off these living spaces for easy indoor/outdoor living. On the decks, you are perched by the river as you relax, observe wildlife, soak in the hot tub, or dine with family or friends.
The gourmet kitchen is well appointed with deep ocean-colored granite counter tops, quality stainless steel appliances, and all the utensils needed to cook for family and friends. The kitchen overlooks the dining and living rooms, the hot tub deck, and has sweeping views of the river beyond. A newly added family room off the kitchen has a deck with a gas BBQ and room for memorable outdoor family feasts.
Upstairs, all three bedrooms have vaulted ceilings, and tall arched dormer windows that let the outdoors inside; the rooms are bathed in sunlight and starlight.
The master bedroom has a private office where you can check into work if needed. In the master bathroom, there is a deep soaking tub, an enormous shower and steam room.
All bedrooms are equipped with iron headboards, Tiffany-style colored glass lamps, down comforters, colorful quilts, fine cotton sheets, and beautiful oak chests of drawers or built in storage.
Except for 2 bathrooms, all rooms have great river views! Every window has Hunter-Douglas shades so you can easily shut out the world if that suits you.
Miss civilization? You can easily walk 10 minutes or bike 5 minutes south along the river trail, through lovely residential neighborhoods, and over the bridge to Old Bend town for a beer at a local brewery, coffee, shopping, or a delicious meal at one of many fabulous restaurants. It is just a quick and easy 20 minute drive to the mountain for skiing.
You can't find a home that is so close to town, yet is surrounded by the wilderness!

We've stayed at quite a few rental homes in the Bend area, and yours was by far the best! If you continue to rent your home, you will certainly have us as guests in the future. Our stay in Bend and this beautiful home was awesome! We enjoyed the view of the river and all the wildlife, even saw mule deer in the driveway. Skiing at Mt Bachelor was fabulous. Antique shopping in Redmond was so much fun and dinning at great restaurants in Bend was a treat. Good shopping in Bend as well. We highly recommend Zydeco on Bond St. - good food and great service. We hope to one day return and perhaps stay here again. Everything was perfect!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We loved staying here over Christmas and New Years! We heard great things about this house, but it exceeded our expectations. Our only problem was leaving the comfort of this house to go explore the area! We enjoyed the hot tub at night in the snow, listening to the river. Long walks along the river in the moonlight and cooking dinner at home in the awesome kitchen! We walked into town many times: marionberry shakes at Goodies and wine tasting at Bend de Vine. Deschutes brewery is also fantastic, as are the independent small shops in town. We also skied, snowshoed and cross country skied at Mt Bachelor. We really loved our stay and can't wait to come back for more! Cheers!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

We saw deer, swans ,and all sorts of waterfowl on the Deschutes and Mirror Pond. Bald eagles on the Metolius and puma tracks (?) on Pilot Butte. Who knew Bend had all of these wonderful opportunities for enjoying the splendor of Central Oregon? Our first stay was highlighted by snowshoeing Tumalo Mountain, XC skiing to Meissner Ski Shelter and powdery downhill runs on Mt. Bachelor. We also hiked to the ice-sculpted Tumalo falls. The house is beautiful, kept us warm at night and afforded wonderful views of the wildlife. Couldn't ask for a better location!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

You know your journey started out right when we picked up our Subaru Outback at the airport and the tag is 966 FUN! Girls trip out west to hike was definitely that. We had plenty of trails to hike - Green Lake hike was our favorite. Do it on a weekday. House was perfect. Lovely decks and views. Just wish we had more time.Did you find this review helpful? We had a great time in Bend. Your home is really beautiful and you did a good thing when you bought it! We did look at homes when we were there, but didn't see anything as nice as yours. The house was beautifully clean and had fresh flowers, wine and coffee in the kitchen - thanks. Your house keeper is a jewel. The instructions for the house were clear and much appreciated. I did a couple of loads of laundry and really appreciated having the instructions right there. The kitchen was really well stocked with lots of thoughtful extras. We really appreciated all the household products since we flew in and didn't bring anything. I have to say that the landscaping at the house is spectacular and we really enjoyed sitting out on the deck. Saw hummingbirds on the red flowers - you might want to put out a feeder. Also, wanted to say I appreciated the art in house. Very nice. We would definitely recommend your house to others. Thanks againDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 7/7

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2011
About the owner: We have lived and traveled around the world, but find that Bend is the place to vacation to be active or relax year round. We never considered owning a second home until we found this gem and realized Bend has it all!
Why the Owner Chose Bend:
Our Pacific Northwest home is in the rain shadow of the Cascade Mountains, in the high desert at 3,000 feet elevation. Bend is sunny nearly 300 days of the year with deep blue skies. We can enjoy the beauty of the four seasons and year round sporting activities. Our home overlooks First Street Rapids Park along the Deschutes River where we can kayak, hike, or bike for miles along the Deschutes River Trail. The Deschutes River is one of the best fly fishing rivers in the world, so you can step outside to fish any time. All these wonderful outdoor activities are just outside the door. It is just a short walk or bike ride into town for fine dining and shopping. Snow sports are just a short 20 minute drive away and the season is longer than most places in the North West. You can't find a more back to nature home this close to town! 'It's a privilege to live in this house!'
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We love that the river can be seen from every room in the house (except two bathrooms). We love to curl up on the couch to read a book, listen to music, and enjoy the sights and sounds of river life. We step outside to hike, bike, kayak, fish, or just take a quiet walk day or night. Night time in the freshly fallen snow is magic. Sunrise from the Master bedroom is heavenly. We can spend days observing the wildlife. When the urge hits us, we stroll or bike 10 minutes into town to shop, dine or brewery hop, or 20 minutes to the snow.
