Gilford house description
Review Calendar please for any interested dates, we keep it up to date. Thanks.
Brand new gorgeous post and beam log cabin with all upscale amenities. The name of this home is Waterscape. This 2000 sq ft vacation home sits on 3 acres on the edge of the most wonderful lake in all of New England, Lake Winnipesaukee. The moment you step on the property you will fall in love and begin to decompress from the every day world. Relax in this peaceful comfortable home that has everything you need to be pampered! (IMPORTANT: Before you get too far along, we have a NO PETS policy that is strictly adhered to, and we apologize if this excludes your staying with us however, no exceptions on this policy)
You are first greeted as you walk up the gradual ramp from the dock by the 40 foot long outdoor living space, a covered porch overlooking the lake, and in front of that a wood sitting deck around a large fire-pit. You enter the home from the porch into a large open living area featuring the kitchen, living area, game area and dining area. The kitchen is a chef's playground with all new stainless steel appliances complete with dishwasher, granite countertops and large walkin pantry. You won't be ruffing it on this cabin stay in the woods! As you stand at the sink preparing dinner you look over the dining table out thru 5 windows to a panoramic view of the lake. The kitchen is fully outfitted including a blender for those frozen drinks on the porch, and a proper pot to boil the lobsters!
The Master Bedroom Suite includes its own separate door to the front porch for those early morning coffees. The MB consists of a queen bed, walkin closet, full bath with dual sinks, and a separate closet for Washer/Dryer. Each of the two upstairs bedrooms have a queen bed, walk in closet, and sleeping loft that can accomodate 2 additional adults (but this is where the kids love to sleep!). Each bedroom has two large windows overlooking the lake and a third with a sitting reading nook. All the queen beds in the home have new memory foam mattresses for your sleeping comfort. Each of the 3 bedrooms have flat screen TVs for your viewing pleasure. The bedrooms attach to an upstairs lounge area that has 55' HDTV flatscreen with DirectTV and gaming. Directly above the lounge is the highest point of the house which has a ladder to yet another sleeping loft area. There is a full bath located directly off the upstairs lounge area on the second floor.
On the main living area the open floor plan created by the great post and beam design allows for kitchen, dining, game table, and living room areas of the home. The dining table looks out to the lake and extends to sit 10 for dinner. A second table nearby easily sits another 5 guests. When this second table is not used for dining it is ideal for board games, or jigsaw puzzles. For those looking for more serious gaming the table top converts with a flip to a professional card table for poker and by removing the top entirely it is a very nice bumper pool table.
Surrounding the gas fired fireplace is the living room area with comfortable couch, overstuffed lounge chair, and reclining Adirondack leather chair. The back hallway leads to both the 1/2 bath and the door to the back covered porch and deck that includes stainless steel gas grill and sitting deck.
The property is on a channel that typically is only travelled by the locals which makes it that much more private. It has a sandy area for swimming and a wonderful rocky point with two Adirondack chairs for a quiet private moment. You are graced with nearly 300 feet of waterfront. Mark Island is 93 acres and has just over 30 homes on it. No roads as there are no bridges, just hiking and walking paths. You can hike to the center point of Mark Island which is a mount that is almost 200 feet above the lake. This is the name sake for the island, as it is the highest point on all of the islands and therefore early on became a point of navigation for the travelers on the lake 'The Mark'.
To get to the property you have to travel by boat which now in the State of NH means you must possess a valid boaters licence as you cannot rent or operate a boat without one. (If you have a license from another state, check as most states are accepted) You do need a boat (your own or rental) or make arrangements for water taxi if desired. This adds to the overall character and experience of the home! We are confident that you will enjoy it as much as us.

Relaxation is immediate upon arrival. Our family had the pleasure of staying in this home away from home. The owners have taken great care in creating an atmosphere that is fun and stress free. From the adirondack chairs on the point (great for morning coffee and evening spirits), the hammock under the trees (reading a good book or taking a nap is must), rocking chairs on the covered porch, kayaks for exploring, the nook in the loft ( the yogibo is my favorite) and sharing stories in front of the firepit are just a few of our favorites. The house is truly a home away from home, comfortable surroundings, room for family and friends. It is not just a destination, it is life long memory. Thank you for sharing this piece of paradise.

My husband and I have been able to spend a couple of long weekends on Mark Island, at this amazing piece of paradise. This is a great cottage in a fantastic location on the lake. It was extremely clean and inviting. They have thought of everything to make the stay fun and enjoyable for all ages. The cottage provides everything you can imagine from peaceful tranquility, to a fun filled day on the water. My husband enjoyed the hammock, Sonos, and fishing of the end of the dock, looking for the big mouth bass. A few of my fav's were floating in the cleanest water on earth, sitting in front of the fire and cruising around Lake Winnie. I already miss sitting on the porch having my morning coffee! Great place to be~ no need to leave to go anywhere else! We're already hoping to stay there again next summer! Thank you so much for the opportunity to enjoy your home.

Best rental on lake
Best rental on lake
This property is close to the mainland with easy access from Gilford town docks. You are met by awning covered docks with carts to help unload your belongings for a fun stay. Everything about this pristine new home will give you an instant gratification of comfort. We spent a lot of time sitting outside on the Adirondack chairs under the large covered porch and deck enjoying the lake views or the fire at night. You will never want to go back to your office chair again. This new home is impeccably furnished. It has an extremely well outfitted kitchen to entertain family or a large number of friends. We enjoyed the great sound system and cable TV on the cooler evenings (late September), and the beds are tremendously comfortable. With the open floor plan you will enjoy lake views while cooking, eating, entertaining, or relaxing. We have been visiting the lake every year for over 20 years and highly recommend this home as the best we have rented.

An Amazing Vacation
An Amazing Vacation
We just spent the month of July at this cottage and hated to leave when our vacation was over. It was truly perfect! The cottage is in excellent condition and has everything you could possibly need. From the minute we arrived we fell in love with the place. The owners pay very close attention to detail and have designed and created a little piece of heaven on Mark Island. Even though you are on an island and in a "cottage" they have provided modern amenities including an iPad and a Sonos sound system to play your favorite music. The large fire pit in the front of the cottage helped make many special nights with the kids while they were roasting marshmallows, making smores and winding down after the day. The owners are a pleasure to work with and made sure that every need was met. We had a month to remember and are sad it is over but hope to return again!

What a weekend!!
What a weekend!!
This house is absolutely perfect for those looking to turn off their cell phones and let the stress just leave their bodies completely. It has everything that anyone would need for the perfect vacation. From the moment you arrive on the dock you get this feeling of a luxury mountain lodge secluded on it's own private island! As you walk up the walkway towards the house such options as the sitting area facing the lake, and the massive but perfect fire pit waiting to be used for smores welcome you to what is awaiting once you walk through the door. The interior of the home was gorgeous, and included every amenity that you could possibly need, and the ability to use your iPhone or their synced iPad to control the music in the house was just the perfect bonus to allow everyone to unwind. I would recommend this house for anyone looking to rent a home on Lake Winnipesaukee and be away from the mainland. The location is perfect with easy access by boat to Cattle Landing Rd where there is a parking lot for easy trips to and from the mainland. All in all it was a wonderful weekend that ended way to quickly but ended with so many good memories and the urge to be back at 24 Mark Island next summer!

Owner response: Wow, thanks Ryan and friends! Looks like we accomplished what we set out to do, and that is to pamper our guests with amenities yet make sure they know they are on an island in the middle of one of the best lakes in New England! We shot for "rustic luxury"! Glad we lived up to and exceeded those expectations. Just a quick clarification, and that is the property is out on island, secluded and peaceful, but there are other homes on Mark Island, so it is not quite "it's own private island" but pretty darn close!!!
This house is incredible
This house is incredible
First off I have to preface this review by saying the pictures do not do it justice. Pulling up to the dock and walking up the path to the house I felt home already. Te architecture is just ridiculously beautiful. The music in the house is actually controlled by an iPad that you can even link to your iphone. It's really easy to figure out as well. All the furniture and appliances were brand new and worked beautifully. There is a large fire pit out front that over looks the lake and screams summer around the fire with a few cold ones. There are sleeping lofts scattered about the house and make for an interesting but cozy place to rest your head after a long day on the water. If you fish you Can catch some decent bass off the dock in the morning. We may have actually left a rod or two so have at it. I honestly can't say enough about this house and Jon ( the owner) was great to work with and made everything very easy. If you're comparing this to any other vacation spot it's a no brainer to rent this house on Mark island. Unbelievably worth it. Any questions I can be contacted directly. I hope the next renters find it just as amazing as I did.

Owner response: Ryan, we are very happy that your get away for you and your work colleagues worked out so well. It is good that you all could unwind and feel at home. Certainly you guys were the "guinea pigs" being our first group of VRBO renters, and we are glad things worked out so smoothly. As Patti and I become more experienced at VRBO and this process hopefully the experience will be that much better for our future guests!

Year Purchased: 2011
About the owner: I am a engineer and my wife is in the education field. We enjoy traveling, family and friends, and have always loved this Lake. We are very fortunate to have found this gem of a property and would be pleased to share it with you. Our children have grown up on this lake from infancy and we can think of no where better than to call our 'home away from home'!
Why the Owner Chose Gilford:
Our immediate family along with friends have been vacationing on Lake Winnipesaukee for over twenty years and have been looking for a home for over the past 5 years. Well, in 2011 we finally found our little slice of paradise called 24 Mark Island.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The home has the charm of a wonderful log cabin cottage but being brand new and built with the finest materials and finishes it provides the charm of the lake while pampering even the highest of expectations. We are confident that our guests will typically become repeat vacationers as this is truly a slice of paradise. The fact that it is on an island is a real plus as it adds so much to the experience, seclusion and character of the property. Obviously, if you are not a boater it makes this a bit more of a challenge. Our guests have all found it to be a big plus!
