Exceptionally clean and adorable cottage just a few steps from the Atlantic Ocean. Very comfortable and perfect for our family. Room for everyone! Very livable! Lovely front porch is very inviting and perfect for your morning coffee. Close to everything! It is just as adorable as you see in the pictuers. I would definitely recommend staying here and we plan to rent it again in the near future! Thank you again Blaire for being so hospitable! The Brown fam

I found the cottage to be mostly accurate to the owner's description. A couple of things that I didn't quite get from the VRBO page: there is no dining room table (only bar seating and the picnic table outside) and if you have more than two vehicles, you may have a very difficult time finding a place to park. We could not find any additional off-street parking nearby. The beds were also very soft, which some people may like but we found a bit too much. I think this is a good place for four people but beyond that it gets crowded quickly (and one bathroom to share can be difficult.) I found the owner of the property to be extremely helpful. She was prompt to respond to emails and answer questions, she helped arrange a crib and high chair for us and overall seemed eager for us to be happy. She even went to the cottage after we left to try to find an item I thought I had left there. Positive things about the cottage: the ice maker worked great, we loved having the outdoor shower (in back) and spray hose (in front) to rinse off from the beach, we enjoyed the grill, there is a good amount of storage space in the bedrooms, bathroom and kitchen, we didn't have any problems working the TV and the iPod dock was awesome to have. All of that being said, I found some things about the house to be a little frustrating: the dishwasher's bottom rack was broken and the dishwasher did not get the dishes clean; the front screen door and refrigerator door did not close without needing an extra push; light bulbs above the bar were burned out; there were no puzzles or games (non-PlayStation) as it said there would be; and the storage room with beach equipment was chaotic and stuff was a little beat up. Additionally, I was not happy with the dishware and utensils – to me, a “full kitchen & cooking utensils” means having more than four bowls, more than one sharp cutting knife and spices other than just salt and pepper. Lastly, we had some trouble with the air conditioning being cold enough in the living room – the owner was again helpful in trying to get the problem solved but we continued to have some issues after that. I was not very happy that the property manager took several hours to call me back after I initially called him, and that he said he would come over at 9 am the next morning and didn't show up or call until 10 am. You may not like this place if you desire super cold AC. If I was returning to the Atlantic Beach area, I would consider staying here again.

Owner response: Thank you for your review and feedback - we strive very hard to make our cottage a wonderful vacation. I appreciate you bringing the dishwasher issue to our attention. We will have it addressed as soon as possible. We do have replacement bulbs readily available in the units and will certainly make sure future clients are aware of their location. The laundry room is a common area and as a result does get sandy and equipment overloaded from time to time. We constantly inventory the kitchen utensils and supplies. We have had our state of the art AC system evaluated and I am pleased to say that it is working beautifully - The family from Raleigh had the pleasure of being here during the hottest week of the summer which strained even the best of systems. Thank you for the constructive feedback and look forward to you staying with us next summer.

This cottage was very clean and very close to the beach. It's in a quiet neighborhood and the beach there is not crowded. The sleeping arrangements worked very well for us with our two kids, ages 8 and 10. It's everything it said it was supposed to be. It's perfect and we can't wait to come back next year!

Just got home from a wonderful week staying at Kailua Cottage. This cottage is everything it is advertised to be and more. The attention to detail such as books, games and DVDs as well as items needed for the beach make this place feel like home. Our favorite spot, of course was the wonderful big front porch where you could hear the ocean, feel the breeze and listen to the swaying palm trees. The location is perfect so close to the ocean and easily accessible shopping & dining. However, it is a very quiet area tucked away from the hustle and bustle. Our high-light of the week was taking a ferry boat tour from nearby Beauford out to Shackleford Banks to see the wild Mustang horses and collect some fabulous shells. The owners made the rental process smooth and hastle-free. I would definitely recommend this place to others and we hope to stay at Kailua Cottage again !

I rented the Kailua Cottage last weekend with my girlfriend as we were both in the area for a medical show at the local hospital. As a long-time renter and former owner of beach homes in NJ I have high expectations. I'm happy to say that Kailua Cottage met every expectation we had. The pictures and description are 100% accurate, in fact the pics don't do the home justice. It is much nicer, cozier, and warmer in person! The amenities are great, and the house is SO clean and well kept. The front porch was so relaxing, whether at end of the a beach day, an evening glass of wine, or coffee in AM it provided great relaxation. The owners are helpful and communicate well, they make the rental process simple and always with a smile. I would definitely rent this home again on our next trip to the NC beaches......and yes the home is truly less than 50 steps to the beach! Check out Island Grille if you want a great dinner in a cozy yet classy setting. Great service and only a 2 min walk from the cottage. Also Ft Macon is pretty cool to see, worth a few hours to go visit one day. Enjoy the Kailua Cottage!

My girlfriend and I spent the weekend at this beautiful third row beach house in Atlantic Beach for a much needed vacation. We were worried about renting a house at first, but quickly found that the owners of Kailua Cottage were very accommodating and made the renting process smooth and stress-free. The description and pictures of the house were spot on, and the house was incredibly clean. My favorite aspect of the house was the porch, it was extremely relaxing after a long day enjoying the beach. A few attractions we enjoyed at Atlantic Beach were visiting the North Carolina Aquarium, eating at Amo's Mosquitoes, visiting Beaufort's musical festival, and of course the beach. I have already recommend the Kailua Cottage to my family and friends. We were very pleased and are looking forward to our next visit.

                  Owner info

                  Year Purchased: 2009

About the owner: A native of NC, my husband and I have lived throughout the southeast for some time. When we moved back to NC in 2006, we began searching for a vacation spot where we could have fun and build memories with our children. Our three children are true water babies-- swimming, surfing, boogie boarding, paddle boarding, water skiing-- anything to be wet and salty!

Why the Owner Chose Atlantic Beach:
Growing up spending summers at the Crystal Coast, I was so excited that my husband and I found this adorable beach cottage. It is so comfortable and close to the water, and a perfect place for families and friends to enjoy the NC shore. We love sitting on the wide front porch after a long day in the sun. The house is perfectly positioned-- an easy walk to the beach path, close to the fishing pier (great surfing and fishing!), in a neighborhood where you can easily ride bikes, and wonderful restaurants and attraction are very nearby.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
We love walking to the Island Grille for dinner (reservations a must!) or riding our bikes to get ice cream at Dippin Dolphins. The NC Aquarium is only a few miles down the road. I heard they are getting penguins this year! Another fun excursion is to explore historic Beaufort-- while there I recommend that you take a boat tour around the islands to see the wild horses and grab lunch or dinner on the beautiful waterfront (we like Finz a lot). The NC Maritime Museum is fun and free! There is so much our area has to offer!
