Enjoy gorgeous vistas of the St. Croix River on spacious decks outside an attractive, unique home featuring a lofted bedroom, open beams, and expansive river views from all living, cooking, dining and sleeping areas.

Master bedroom loft, with private bathroom and shower, features skylights for those who love sleeping under the moon and stars and clear-story windows looking out to the river. The living area has wood floors, a couch with pull-out bed, and a library to curl up with a good book. The kitchen is fully equipped with stainless steel appliances and a solid bamboo floor. The antique-style main floor bath includes a claw-foot tub with shower extension and pull-chain toilet. It is adjacent to a large second bedroom with a separate outside entrance and bunk-style futon that sleeps two on the bottom and one on the upper bunk.

This is a beautiful, restful place to relax, read, hike, bike and connect to the outdoors. Grill steaks while sipping wine and enjoying a wide variety of birds that visit feeders near the decks; watch blue herons, eagles and boats cruise the river. Walk downtown and enjoy Stillwater’s historic main street with fabulous restaurants, boutiques, antiques stores, charming old pubs, a brewery, beautiful parks and the historic lift bridge.

Because this house sits high on the river bluff, the gravel driveway is steep and can be challenging for motorcycles (or anyone who doesn’t like steep slopes). But the vista is worth the climb!

We chose this property as a base for visiting family in the city. It was the perfect place for a getaway. The house was well-furnished for guests with a lot of special touches -- we loved the growlers and iphone setup for music. The deck was great and offered a comfortable and relaxing setting to enjoy any time of the day. The high windows allowed you to see the views from almost every room. The owners were also very responsive and helpful and you can tell they have a lot of pride in their home. Thanks for a great stay.

What a great find this was! From the first correspondence between Cindy & myself, we have nothing but the highest praise for the owners, the property and the St. Croix Valley area. Imagine that you need a vacation (like that is hard to do) and your priorities are a great location with lots of things to do, a great house (wait until you see the Welcome basket) to come home to after your daily adventures (and believe me you will have them), numerous downtown restaurants (we recommend The Green Room) and picture perfect weather. Well look no farther than Stillwater, Minnesota. Land of fabulous parks, especially Interstate Park, friendly, helpful locals and just an all around great vacation spot. I dare you to become bored with the great view of the St. Croix River while sitting on the porch, sipping whatever it is your sipping and listening to the amazing array of tunes from Dave's ( the homeowners) iPod. I could go on and on but by now I am sure you get the picture. We will definitely be coming back. Already thinking about next Fall to see the foliage colors. Thanks again to Cindy & Dave for everything!

Our family of three enjoyed three weeks in this lovely setting. We were very pleased with the home and the location...it was perfect for our needs. Close to town and stores when needed, but also secluded enough to make you feel you were out in the country. Could not have asked for more....everything was as stated, and the owners very helpful. Stillwater is a jewel on the St Croix River....

I enjoyed my stay, was clean and had lots of little extras to make you feel at home. You could be downtown with all the tourists and within minutes be relaxing on the large deck, which was very peaceful. Enjoyed the trolly ride and would recommend "Marx", for a wonderful place to eat.

Sorry it took me so long to review -- not for lack of appreciation! This place had a dream-come-true feeling for us, peaceful solitude at the house and yet we could walk downtown Stillwater to take part in all it had to offer. Love how the home itself had plenty of space, but a cottage vibe (a hip cottage :). Appreciated how the bedrooms are separate enough for a real sense of privacy, but no worries with small children, either. It seemed really ingenious to me how it all worked. The best part, of course, is the huge deck with fresh air and trees and the river view. If it weren't that we were "escaping" I would have wanted to host a party there :) Owners were exactly as helpful as we asked them to be -- lots of great tips, but totally unobtrusive which is always a tricky balance to strike. Just a pitch-perfect rental (and we have rented a lot of VRBO places all over the country). We will definitely be back!

We had a delightful time at your home. The hosta garden was in full bloom and the view of the river breathtaking. Even the mosquito didn't bother us too much! The owner were very helpful and just a phone call away. The house is walking distance to downtown, we walked the dogs nearly every morning into town. The attention to the small courtesies at this house were the best of any vrbo where we have stayed. For instance there were coffee filters and coffee so we didn't have to race out on arrival just to be equipped for the morning. We have family in the area and everyone fell in love with your house. I'm sure you will get more business from us!

We stayed here for four nights and really enjoyed the home. The owners were very engaged and made us feel welcome. The kitchen is outstanding. The deck overlooks the St. Croix and has a very nice grill. We saw bald eagles and great blue herons. We would happily return to this home again in the future. We spent a couple of wonderful evenings on the deck with friends and - you may not appreciate this unless you have spent time in Minnesota - were minimally bothered by mosquitoes. We highly recommend this home to those looking for a retreat west of the the Twin Cities or within striking distance of western Wisconsin.

Owner response: Thank you so much for your comments here and the helpful notes you left in our house! We love sharing our vacation home with great guests who enjoy the home and the St. Croix Valley. (As you said, it is surprising how few mosquitoes there are on the bluff -- it's because of the breeze and lack of standing water.) We are very happy you had a good experience and would love to have you stay at Dave's vacation rental again when you're in Minnesota!

My Mom, sister, and I stayed at this home for a long weekend in May, 2012. We really enjoyed the home and felt it fit our needs well. We especially enjoyed the large deck with fantastic views of the St. Croix River. The kitchen is superbly designed and featured great amenities like bamboo floors, walnut countertops, and stainless appliances. The kitchen was fully stocked with all of the cookware, utensils, etc. that we needed. The owners even left a 'care package' for us which included some snacks, chocolates, coffee, and bubbles for my two year old son! The upstairs shower had impressive water pressure and the main level bathroom had a cute clawfoot tub. The location was ideal too; being only a few minutes from downtown Stillwater. The home is located on the bluffs though so if you plan on biking or walking to downtown, be sure to wear your tennis shoes as you will encounter some aggressive hills. All in all, we really enjoyed our stay and would recommend this home to other small groups.

                      Owner info

                      Year Purchased: 2002

About the owner: I am a construction project manager and have lived in Stillwater for more than 30 years. Stillwater accommodates all my favorite hobbies including fly fishing, kayaking, motorcycling, camping, gardening and building.

                      Why the Owner Chose Stillwater:
Since I'm spending free time with my fiancé Cindy, I decided to open my own home to vacation rental as I don't want to part with it. The location is great and I've put my own personality and love-of-the-outdoors style into my home. I think you'll enjoy it.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
I can spend hours with binoculars and a good brew watching raptors from my deck. Since I was a kid, I wanted to live up high -- like on a mountain. While the river bluff isn't a mountain, it's as beautiful.
