Awesome place...owner met 4 of us that night, walked us around. The place served as the anchor house for the 16 of us on the trip. Played lots of pool and used the hot-tub two nights. We had a blast!Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children.

Our family enjoyed our long weekend stay at Foxhaven in both the farm house and cottage. Our weather was a bit chilly, but our accommodations were wonderful. In fact to quote our youngest member. "We stayed in a three story mansion!" Got out on the lake and saw lots of wildlife. The rooms were cozy and comfortable. Everyone found their niche. Would definitely consider another October stay. Only about an hour and a half to get there.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with teenagers, age 55+, families with young children.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Fox Lake property. The owners attention to detail was evident. Since we rented both homes we could all enjoy close proximity to the lake for early morning quiet times. The deck with it's obvously new pergola was a great place to enjoy a meal or a game of Rumicube. We wished we had our own boat to enjoy the lake more, but had fun with a couple hours rental. There are lots of small towns, lakes and shopping close by. Overall, it was a wonderful week.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

We arrived on a Monday night and were met by the friendly owner. As he showed us around we were quite surpirsed that the entire property was much larger and nicer than even the online pictures reflected. We rented the Main house only and that was plenty for our smallish group. Our college age kids and a couple of their friends came by for a few days. Plus some of our friends arrived later in the week. They all loved it and are already starting to plan a larger group to rent the entire compound next year. It is so large that we actually got lost in there a couple times on the first day. It has quite a few common areas including the first floor Great room (where we spent most of our time) but also plenty of privacy via bedrooms and doors to all levels. The location was close enough to our Chicago suburban home as to allow for people who needed to go to work or classes to do so and return later. Although we brought everything with us, we quickly learned that many items were already provided (e.g. bath towels, bed linens, condiments, kitchenware of all types). So we'll remember that next year. We rented a pontoon boat nearby (3 times) and we were able to dock it right there to pick-up/drop off people or items from the pier. We also borrowed some Waverunners from friends and simply beached them at the private beach overnight. In summary, I would recommend this spot to anyone. It also appears that the property is continually being upgraded and so it is just getting better and better (and perhaps that is why some of the pictures may not even do it justice)Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, families with teenagers, age 55+, families with young children.

The pictures do not do this place justice. Cedar house is amazing!! We had a wonderful stay in preperation for our son's wedding. We had family and friends out and had more room to entertain than imaginable. Everything was comfortable and well stocked. The home was clean and they were very helpful when I was lost in the area. I want to stay again and enjoy the water and relaxation/ With our son living in the area we will be back. Thank you to Steven and Susan for sharing your beautiful home with us. Our week at Foxhaven was a bit of heaven. The homes were more beautiful than I had imagined. We had a great view of the lake from the deck. I felt like I was living out a story line from a summer novel. Everyone in the family had fun - canoeing and fishng for my son, jet skiing for my daughter and relaxation in the jacuzzi for me and my mom. We all enjoyed many games of pool and making s'mores over the campfire on the beach. Stephen was so helpful and kind. We ended our week with a delicious breakfast at the Whistle Stop Cafe and the cost was very reasonable. I would highly recommend a stay at this property! I can't wait to go back!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, families with teenagers, age 55+, families with young children.
Owner response: We've tried to have something fun for everyone and every generation. Glad your family reunion worked out so well - Hope to see you again soon! Stephen and Susan

If you are looking for a large house with all the amenities, THIS is your place. Our group of 10, went up to the lake for the weekend and were very surprised by the size and overall quality of the house. From a HUGE walk out basement with pool table, to the modern kitchen, this fully furnished, full service house just keep going. Very comfortable accommodations, felt like a home not a hotel that has daily turn over. Some of the great features we loved: the huge front yard, upper deck off the family room, new brick patio out back, boat pier, and the location made this rental feel like a real vacation. I would highly recommend staying here, the owner Steve is very nice and accommodating, and is very knowledgable about the area. Steve really made us feel very welcome and continually asked if we needed anything. We will definitely be back!!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: It was great having you and all the guys stay with us. I'm glad your boat fit so perfectly at the end of our dock. We'd love to have you back again and thanks for the review! Stephen and Susan

If you are seeking a gettaway that makes you forget the sounds of cars, sirens, and the hussle and bussle of the city, this is your place! We came with a large party for Memorial Day weekend and rented both houses. When we first walked into the rear house where I spend most of my time, I was struck by how it was beautifully furnished. It really feels like you're in a French country home rather than Illinois. And what is so great about it is it feels like a home (great book selection and all!) rather than a sterile rental property. We also had quite a few people to find sleeping arrangements for and there was no end to the comforatable options available. The queen bedroom upstairs is glorious! I also found many a nook and cranny to hide away to read my book! Ample bathrooms, great kitchen, tvs everywhere, a bar, a pool table and I think there might be boat options although I didn't take advantage of that. Our group also spent a lot of time on the deck attached to the front house soaking up the sun. We grilled out, drank some beers by the fire pit and relaxed in the hot tub. I have to say though, while these ammenties were lovely, one of my favorite parts of the trip was laying on the dock watching the stars--it's that kind of thing that really lets the city melt away. I will definitely be back.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, pet owners, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you so much for staying with us as well as this wonderful review. We are so pleased to know that you enjoyed Foxhaven as much as we do! Come back soon!

About the owner: Both my wife and I grew up on the water on opposite coasts - she's from Rhode Island and I'm from California. When we found ourselves, as college professors, teaching and raising our family in the Midwest, we decided we needed a place to get away and relax on the water. We have many happy memories of family reunions, summer boating days, and snowy winter evenings by the fire here at Foxhaven. Our children are all grown up now but they still return to share good times at our beautiful lakefront retreat.
Why the Owner Chose Fox Lake:
The Chain-O-Lakes is beautiful series of lakes and channels with cute cottages and elegant waterfront mansions, waterfront restaurants, wildlife and pristine wetlands to explore. We've been here for years and are still finding new things to see and do!
The Unique Benefits at this Farmhouse:
Quiet mornings with mist on the lake, sunset sails with family and friends, fishing, swimming, water skiing - there's always something happening here at Foxhaven.
