Be swept away enjoying this unique WATERFRONT home with sweeping views of San Francisco Bay, the Golden Gate Bridge, the city of San Francisco and Angel Island from almost every room!

Double French doors lead out to a large wrap around deck which is amazing for entertaining and soaking in Bay Area living. Enjoy your meals on the large 1500+ square foot outdoor deck. Walk to town and take the ferry into San Francisco (only a 19 minute ride) or enjoy Tiburon with its wonderful restaurants, coffee shops, shopping and public biking and walking paths.

Sailors - walk or bike to the Yacht Clubs or anchor your boat off the deep water dock.

The house, originally built in 1943, is one of the original “boathouses” built on a rock outcropping along the Tiburon shoreline in Lyford Cove, just opposite the harbor on Angel Island. Although it has been remodeled several times, the original rough-hewn fir walls have been saved and the result is a peaceful, cozy home that takes you back to less frenetic times in one of the world’s most beautiful settings.

The house is a wonderful retreat for just a couple or a family, but can also sleep a lot of people if needed. There are four bedrooms plus a den. Three of the bedrooms have Cal King beds and the fourth a double bed with a pull-out twin trundle.

(If more beds are needed, there is a studio apartment with a separate entrance above the garage which we can arrange to make available on special request)

On the main level there is a living room, dining room with a table for 12, open kitchen - great for entertaining, Master Bedroom with a CAL King bed, couch, easy chair, TV and small private deck, master bath with large jacuzzi tub, den, and a glassed-in sunroom for cooler evenings.

On the upper floor (which is at street level) there are a total of 3 bedrooms. 2 bedrooms each with a CAL King bed and a 3rd bedroom with a double bed and a twin trundle. There is one bathroom on this floor between the 2 king bedrooms.

Street parking with two parking spaces in front of the house and ample more along the quiet, one way street.

This is a great home for families, friends or small groups looking to 'live the dream' in San Francisco. We love children in the house and have raised our own here. There are 2 swings suspended from the trellis on the upper deck, and a climb up 'secret' Captain's lookout on top of the trellis for little adventurers. The upper and lower decks are fully fenced in, with a safety gate opening to the unfenced boat dock. Life vests (we have plenty in the dock storage box) are recommended for children when they are out on the dock.

Pets will be considered on an individual basis. We kindly request only respectful parties. This would not be a good home for any kind of parties or events. Please note, we only rent for periods of one month or longer. Thank you.

Tony Bennett may have left his heart in San Francisco, but we definitely left ours at this one of a kind, historic waterfront home in Tiburon! We were fortunate enough to photograph this lovely home. I cannot begin to describe the magic of this home and setting, but I will try. First of all, nothing compares to the experience of hearing the ocean gently rolling under the home. It is like a sweet lullaby of calming bliss. And the view is extraordinary. The location of this home on the bay provides direct views of the Golden Gate, the city lights, and Angel Island feels so close you could throw a stone to reach it. Not to mention how magical it was to capture the full moon rising over Angel Island three nights in a row. Spectacular! The home itself is so well designed with a beautiful and thoughtful decor of elegant natural colors themed with the blue ocean, sea green and white. The kitchen is very modern and well stocked, the furniture incredibly comfortable, and the floor plan open yet private with three bedrooms upstairs that overlook the main living areas. The private master bedroom suite is huge with a fantastic jet spa and an additional private living area that opens to another private sunroom. The drop down movie screen is a delight. The outside decks allow you to be with the sea, ride on swings, and watch sailboats go by while you lounge luxuriously. There's even a separate entry studio apartment with incredible views. You can easily walk to town and catch the ferry as we did to Angel Island and get the most amazing perspective of this home and the whole island of Tiburon plus the east bay and all of SF. As luxury architectural photographers, we have photographed hundreds of homes and we have to say this was by far the most unique and enjoyable experience we've had in the SF bay area. This is a very special place, and if you are fortunate enough to stay here, you must! It will be an unforgettable experience. Angelina Gabriel Luxury Architectural Photography

This house was one of the best vacations spots we have ever visited. The description of the house corresponds exactly to what you feel when you are over there. The location is unique and we recommend it as the best spot to stay when you go to SFrancisco. Taking the ferry only takes 20 minutes to arrive in downtown SFO and the views from the Golden Gate Bridge are awesame. To the owners only one word: THANKS!

Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+.

Owner response: And the Owners return the THANKS!! We are very happy that everyone seems to enjoy our Boathouse so much.

My husband and I stayed in Tiburon the weekend of the 75th Anniversary of the Golden Gate bridge and had the best view in all of Tiburon of the fireworks show off the bridge! Sitting on the dock with our wine, by candlelight, we lounged on the comfortable outdoor sofas and enjoyed the calm evening on the water with a perfect view of the Golden Gate bridge. The bay was so beautiful with all the sailboats going by as the sun set. The house was beautiful, perfectly clean, with a great gourmet kitchen, completely stocked with anything you would ever need to eat, drink or cook with, including a Keurig one cup coffee machine and a grill on the deck just off the kitchen. The bedrooms are beautiful and we both got the best sleep ever. Not sure if it was the sound of the waves or the comfy king size beds, but it was great. The next morning we walked into town for brunch at the New Morning Cafe, which was really good (I recommend the Challah french toast) and only a few minutes walk from our house with great views the whole way. We absolutely love this spot and had the best weekend. We will be recommending it to all our friends.

Wow, what a gem, book us up for next year!... Unique! .... Clean, Cozy and super tasteful decor. I had some business downtown, decided to bring the family and stayed in the "Boathouse". WHAT A LOCATION! Short walk to the Blue and Gold fleet / Tiburon Ferry, with easy and quick (-20min) public transportation ferry access to the city for me. (we only needed one car) The house really brought us together as a family, we could easily meet up in the city later in the day and escape it by jetting on the ferry back to the house and seeing the twinkle of lights on the bay at night. The photos are good but really hard to capture the SIZE and closeness of the Golden Gate Bridge. Its right there, and the casual views of some amazing boats was a real treat for our son. The surrounding houses are a bit close, but the landscape and placement of this house makes it kind of an island. The property was super clean, good maintenance person because everything seemed to be in ship shape, working order, my wife changed the battery in a smoke detector. The location changed my view of SFO! Linear Park, and the Rail Trail are some highlights, the ability to combine work in the city, and live the SF dream from this side was amazing. See you next year. - The Williams Family

This is a stunning home! The photos truly don't do it justice. The views are amazing. We ate most of our meals on the back deck and enjoyed wine while watching the sunset on the comfy outdoor sofa. You just can't beat spending your holiday in a home where you are actually ON the San Francisco Bay. Our group consisted of 2 adults and 3 kids and the house was perfect. The kitchen was lovely. My kids loved the swings on the deck and watching all the animals and birds on the bay. We even caught crabs off the deck! My favorite was watching the clouds roll over the hills and golden gate bridge into the bay. Magical. We walked into town everyday, about 10-15 min walk along the water, and took the ferry right into the city. We hope to return to this wonderful home very soon.

                  Owner info

                  Year Purchased: 1997

About the owner: I grew up in Germany my husband in New England and we have lived in London, Paris, Munich, New York Boston, Washington DC and the Bay Area. We're sailors and skiers, cooks and carpenters, musicians and painters, but, most of all, parents and grandparents to our large brood.

                  Why the Owner Chose Tiburon:
We purchased our 'Boathouse' from a San Francisco Antique dealer in 1997. We loved it's old world charm from the days when Tiburon was still a train switching yard and rum was run on the Bay. Perhaps most important, unlike most of the Tiburon waterfront, the house has a southern exposure (read 'warm') and a completely unobstructed view of the Golden Gate. Tiburon is, of course, famous for its beauty and weather (it almost never gets the famous (and freezing) San Francisco fog, but is a short ferry ride (19 minutes) into the heart of the city. When we bought the house we had four children. A year later we had our fifth child - who grew up 'on the dock', and watching life on the Bay from his bedroom window, and his secret 'Captain's Lookout' up on the trellis. We love the serenity and joy of being right on the Bay, so close to nature. At the same time our location is only a 10 minute walk to the San Francisco Ferry, and makes for an easy 'walk to work' in the city every day. We're sailors so being able to anchor right off our dock, or for the weekend in Angel Island's Ayala Cove across the way was a huge plus in living on the water with a deep water dock. Our favorite things, however, are the baby whales that occasionally get lost in the Bay, only to be told to 'come back to the ocean' by their mothers, and the baby sea lions in a big rookery directly across from us on Angel Island.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
Our favorite things at the Boathouse are the marine life, the early morning sunrises, the full moon on the water; spring - when all the baby cormorants, Canada geese and sea lions take their first 'open swim' with their proud parents; the evening fly-by of the pelicans; the reliable 8pm Hornblower cruise boat going by, all lit up... and our quiet evenings on the dock, watching the world wind down and the moon come up. We love having both french doors open during the day with the breeze coming into the house while guitar music plays on the stereo. The rest of Marin County with Muir Woods, Stinson Beach, Bolinas, Drake's Bay and many other destinations - is only a short drive away, and Napa Valley and the Russian River Valley make for romantic day trips to stock up on things like wine, olive oil and specialty cheeses. We bike all the way around the Peninsula on famous Paradise Drive, and enjoy our early morning walks along the water into Town for coffee and sweets. Shopping is easy at the many special boutiques in town. We love the Sunday Concerts in the Park, the International Film Festival, the Wine Festival and Friday Nights on Main Street put on by the local restaurants. It's a wonderful feeling of community, with always many people to be found in the crowd from all over the world.
