Aunt Dot's Cottage on the Shores of Lake Michigan
- Minimum stay:N/A

- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Aunt Dot's Cottage is the best of best worlds - so easy to get to about an hour north of Milwaukee just off Hwy 43, but a hidden treasure, "a world apart," when you arrive. Aunt Dot's accomodates 6 overnight guests, and is charming by all accounts. It feels restful the minute you walk in the door. The atmosphere invites you to reconnect with play, read and ponder, catch your breath and enjoy life. Leave busyness behind for a week or so! There are 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, a kitchen ready to use, and a nice living room with a beautiful stone fireplace, well-stocked bookshelves, comfy leather furniture and a picture window overlooking Lake Michigan. The kitchen has that quaint cottage feel but provides a totally up to date gas stove and full size frig, plus a little desk to plug in your computer, fire up the WIFI, and check your email while sipping your morning coffee. The view from the master bedroom upstairs is wonderful, especially if you're fortunate enough to be here on a full moon night.
This room offers a comfortable king size bed and space to relax. The back bedroom upstairs can be made up with twin beds or a king - to accomodate a couple or a couple of kids! Downstairs, the bedroom is furnished with antique twin beds that reflect our local Dutch heritage. Outdoors, we have a canoe and kayaks, beach toys and chairs for your use. (Sorry, we don't allow personal watercraft.) Grill out on the patio - build a fire on the beach to roast marshmallows on a still night - enjoy the wonder of the star filled sky. Additional guests are welcome with prior arrangements. It is our desire though to assure a restful cottage atmosphere and provide the same for our neighbors, so if you would like to have more than the 6 daytime or overnight guests that Aunt Dot's is designed for, please let us know, and be aware that it may include an extra charge.
Most people who come hate to leave the cottage, but there are some great places to explore if you want an excursion. Kohler with its lovely golf courses, restaurants, and "Shops at Woodlake," is just 15 minutes away; Elkhart Lake and its exciting Road America races is within 30 minutes; Plymouth on the way there is known for antiques; nearby Sheboygan has much to explore, a great waterfront with restaurants and shopping, and Kohler-Andrae State Park with beautiful hiking on the sand dunes; our own little Oostburg just up the street has groceries, a fabulous bakery, a laundramat and restaurants; the Milwaukee Zoo or Harley-Davidson Museum make a fun-filled day in the city; and if you've come from afar to Wisconsin and want to take a day trip to our reknowned vacation destination, Door County is just 2 hours north of us. All fun, but really, most of our guests say nothing beats the unhurried life on this private beach! We hope you'll try it - we look forward to being your hosts.

Everything was fabulous. The property was very clean and well maintained. Everything I needed was there for both inside and out. Including chairs, kayaks, inner tube, fire wood, life jackets, sand toys and on and on. The beach at the property is one in a million. I have lived most of my life on Lake Michigan but there is something very special about the lake where it meets Aunt Dots. I was fortunate to have mostly beautiful weather, one day it did rain. That was also great as there is an awesome fireplace, many interesting books to peruse and plenty of games to play. I can not say enough good about my stay. One thing I loved, but others may need to know in advance, there is minimal reception for phone, Internet or television. Personally, that enhanced my stay even more, I could have stayed forever!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

Owner info
About the owner: Hi -we're Lynn & Sandi (you get to guess who's who!) and we own Aunt Dot's cottage. We actually live next door, so when you're here, you're our guests. Hospitality and sharing our love for this place is something we enjoy. We won't invade your privacy, but we're here to answer any questions or meet what needs we can. We have a sales business, and our office is in our home - sometimes you'll see our lights on, burning the midnight oil. We're always good for a wave, a joke, or that cup of sugar you might need to borrow.
Why the Owner Chose Oostburg:
Lynn's Aunt Dot actually bought this cottage in the 1930s so it has been a beloved place in our family for...ever. Aunt Dot transformed it along the way to have running water and a shower. We still enjoy fussing over the place, and try to do something each year to upgrade and maintain it without changing the character of the cottage. Last year, it was a new metal roof - looks beautiful!
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Not unique, but truly remarkable - those waves have been rolling in for centuries, the sun rises every morning, the moon trail and stars no artist could duplicate, the quiet renews your senses, and you know God is in His heaven when you're here. The summer is idyllic, the winter is awesome.
