Roscoe cabin description
East Rosebud Lake is truly one of the most unique and dramatic settings in the Rocky Mountains. In a classic glacially carved valley at an elevation of 6206 feet, East Rosebud Lake is surrounded with sixty cabins forming the historic town of Alpine, Montana. This private 108-acre lakeshore community, managed by the East Rosebud Lake Association, is surrounded by forest service land. Spectacular peaks of the Beartooth Range, rise from the lake to elevations over 10,000 feet and Granite Peak, the highest point in Montana, is just beyond the horizon. Three separate forest service trails originating near the lake lead to Red Lodge, Cooke City and Mystic Lake. East Rosebud Lake is located approximately 45 miles south of Columbus Montana, and 35 miles northwest of Red Lodge, Montana. The final 14 miles to the lake from Roscoe, Montana, is a maintained yet rugged unpaved road. Shortly before the lake there is a 5-mile section of paved road that turns into the unpaved road that surrounds the lake. The nearest major airport is Billings.

Rustic comfort and Solitude on a High Mountain Lake
Rustic comfort and Solitude on a High Mountain Lake
My family enjoyed this quiet rustic cabin in the Beartooth Mts over the July 4th week. It was so quiet and peaceful even though other cabins were near by. We kayaked, paddle boarded, hiked and canoed in this magnificent mountain scenery. You can practically touch the mountains across the lake, they are that close! The cabin was comfortable and cooking was easy in this well stocked home. We hope to enjoy it again!!!!

Rocky Mountain get away
Rocky Mountain get away
An awesome place to get away to fish, hike and enjoy all the wildlife and mountains Montana has to offer. We caught several trout in East Rosebud Lake including rainbow, brown and cutthroat. There were lots of wildlife right around the cabin including bald eagle, moose, deer and turkey. What a beautiful place! We're planning on going back next summer.

East Rosebud lake in the Beartooth mountains is one of Montana's best kept secrets and this cabin lives up to its setting. The view from the cabin is better than the pictures can show - it's absolutely stunning! Inside, it's roomy & cozy at the same time with a kitchen that is completely fitted out. Has indoor plumbing with shower etc., but no indoor toilet. We sat at the kitchen table in the mornings and marveled at the view - much better than the pictures suggest. The lake shore is just a couple hundred feet away and a stream enters in nearby. We caught enough rainbow & brown trout one evening to feed everyone - 8 of us. We hiked a few trails including one called "The Beaten Path". It was the hike of a lifetime for us. We went as far as Rimrock lake which I highly recommend. There is a small store on the other side of the lake that stocks a few basic groceries, but be sure to bring all you can think of because the nearest real store is a long drive over a rough road. The owner was very helpful and informative & she responded quickly and kindly to my frequent emails & calls. The price is very reasonable. The only downsides are the rough road(which keeps the casual sightseers away) and the lack of an indoor toilet(only the teenage girls were a little bothered by it). Our cell phones didn't work there(thankfully), but there is a land line in the cabin & the store has wireless internet.

A place to REALLY exhale!
A place to REALLY exhale!
What a stunning drive to this cabin and once you get there....it's jaw dropping. The lake, the jagged cliffs of the mountains, and the smells....the smell of pine and clean air. We came from all directions, WI, MT, and CA and we all agree it is one of the most beautiful places we had ever been. The cabin is exactly what it says...a rustic mountain cabin...and it's cool! Authentic, spacious, and full of charm, we loved it! The kitchen is fully equipped with full size fridge and stove, microwave, coffee maker...and what we forgot....a wine opener too! The Kitchen table is nestled next to a large picture window where we sat and watched the wildlife play in the yard. We are so excited to book it again!
