Don Pedro Island house description
Relax and unwind, island style at Changes In Attitudes, your personal island lifestyle get-away. This extremely well kept, gulf-view, home includes a private dock on Bocilla lagoon with access to the intercoastal waterway (which can accommodate up to a 20 foot boat, please inquire about bringing your boat). The beach, a short 300 feet away with rarely a person in sight, has a very private feel with seven miles of perhaps some of the most pristine and secluded beach you’ll ever experience.
Our home includes three well-appointed bedrooms including a large master suite. The master suite and one of the guest bedrooms have very nice views of Bocilla lagoon with large glass sliding doors that opens into the breezy spacious screened porch area. The third bedroom also has access to the porch via sliding glass doors. The kitchen, dining and main living area is an open concept plan and takes full advantage of the fantastic lagoon views with a large set of sliding glass doors that opens into the main area of the screened porch.
There is a cozy wood burning fireplace and newer furniture for relaxing and unwinding in style. The kitchen is fully equipped and ready for the gourmet chef in you to explore tasty new opportunities. Our home has tile and hardwood floors throughout for easy living. The bathrooms are all freshly updated as well. The downstairs entertainment area is huge, fully decked, and includes a fantastic tiki bar with stools, hammocks, lounge chairs and more! It’s open, airy and a great area to hang out and enjoy some quality time with family and friends. There is also a private outdoor shower so you can rinse off after a fun day on the beach.
Don Pedro Island (aka Palm Island) offers a unique, pristine and very natural “Old Florida” atmosphere. This is a place for relaxing, fishing and going for long quiet beach walks. Don Pedro is a barrier island with no bridges to the mainland so you’ll feel like you’re on a private island with all the modern conveniences such as cable TV and high-speed internet access to name a few. The mode of transportation to the island is by car ferry or private boat. The few minutes that it takes the ferry to cross the water will transform you from the outside world to our tropical paradise. Ferry service operates on a daily basis so you can venture off island as needed to explore the mainland. We have special prices on the ferry passes since we purchase them in books of ten, so please inquire about passes before you book your stay. Our home includes an optional golf cart rental and the use of two beach bikes (special prices on golf cart rentals with weekly stays). The island has a restaurant, pizza, ice cream and breakfast shoppe and a small convenience store. Close at hand on the mainland offers full service marinas, boat rentals, grocery stores, shopping, golf courses and waterfront restaurants. World famous Boca Grande is also a short drive from the ferry landing and offers quaint upscale shopping, restaurants, a beachfront lighthouse and more.
Changes In Attitudes is a wonderful way to spend time with family and friends, recharge your batteries, unwind and relax, island-style (so leave your tie at home) – bring your flip-flops and your breezy island attire and get back to basics. It truly is a rare, special place that offers visitors one of the most memorable vacation experiences you are ever likely to discover.
Our home is available year-round with special rates for non-peak seasons and we do allow stays shorter than one week when available. Ask about special rates for one month or longer stays.

my new go to home on the island
my new go to home on the island
What an awesome home!! I can't tell you how amazing the home is. WE have rented dozens of vrbo homes in the past and this was by far our favorite. The deck under the house is set up for spending the day enjoying the out doors without having to be in the sun! the bar is awesome for afternoon drinks while watching the kids fish from the dock.. My youngest caught so many catfish we couldn't keep up..Make sure you bring your pole because the little ones won't get bored! My teen girls enjoyed the kayak and loved hanging out under the house with the hammocks and their music playing. Def. rent the golfcart for the eas of getting around the island and visit the main resort for rum buckets for the adults and ice cream and pizza for the kids. We set up our stuff on the beach in the morning and didn't take it all down until the end of the day. a quick walk gets you to the beach...We all even took a jump off the bridge into the water!! Absolutely perfect vacation and the information the owners gave was so helpful!! They were easy to work with and we had the best house out of all the other couples that also rented on the island with us...(6 different houses) we originally intended to bring our dogs, but left them home last minute. I really wish we would have brought them because they could have hung out with us under the house the entire weekend and would have loved swimming in the lagoon!!

Owner response: Thanks for staying with us.
We loved our stay in this awesome house. We have a 6 year old, 4 year old and a 13 month old. When looking for a summer vacation house I look for cleanliness.... it was VERY clean. I also look for great sleep set up including afternoon naps. It had that and more. The master bedroom has a walk in closet big enough where I did not even have to close the door for him to have privacy and be quiet enough for him to sleep. The other two rooms were perfect for my mom and my two older kids. We went to the beach everyday which was right across and easy to get to. There's an outdoor shower perfect for bathing my kids all at once so there was never any sand dragged inside the house. We got to use the Golf cart but it died on us..... we called the owners that afternoon and they had someone there to fix it the next morning, big hit with my kids since that was one of their favorite part of the vacation. I love how the beach is not crowded and how safe I felt. Another big hit was the wrap around porch... my kids loved it since they are too young to go downstairs by themselves.... this made them feel very BIG :) The house had everything I needed for the kitchen... all I brought was my slow cocker for easy meals. GREAT BEACH HOUSE.

Owner response: Yes a great place for families with kids.
We rented Changes in attitude for our honeymoon/vacation for two weeks. We have stayed on Don Pedro once before and loved it. It is a true island feel since the only way to get on is by ferry. The beach is excellent for collecting shells and sharks teeth or just walking and relaxing. We took the golf cart for a couple rides around the island along with we drove it to the only restaurant, Rum Bay on the island,we all agreed the food and drinks were good. It's pretty cool seeing the gopher tortoises walking around on the island too. In regards to our stay at Changes in Attitude, the home was excellent. It was very spacious with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. All of the bedrooms and living room have walk out patios, depending on the bugs (noseums) and weather, its nice leaving the doors open to let in the fresh air. The living room doors actually slide completely open which opens the living room up to the outside. The master bedroom (which we stayed in) is nice with a walk in closet and an attached bathroom. The two guest bedrooms are on the opposite side of the house. There is a pocket door to close off from the living room and the bedrooms. My mom and aunt each stayed in one of the bedrooms, sharing the bathroom. The only change they would have liked to see is there is only one mirror for getting ready and that is in the bathroom. An extra mirror in each of the bedrooms would have made it perfect. The totally screened in porch was really nice, the first week we were able to open everything up and no problems with bugs. The second week we had bees come to visit which because of the screen it was nice because we were still able to enjoy the outdoors. The noseums can come through the screening so Avon bug spray was used. We will certainly stay in Changes of Attitude again. I had to contact the owners a couple of times and no problems with that either. Thank you for making our honeymoon and vacation an excellent time!

Beautiful Location and home
Beautiful Location and home
Our family of 5 (2 adults, 2 kids and a dog) really enjoyed our stay on Don Pedro Island. This Island is great for a beach getaway and this home is the perfect location to enjoy it all. The home is well appointed, clean and in a great location. We really felt right at home and confortable in our surroundings. Everything we needed was available to us. We spent most of our days walking the beach, enjoyed most meals on the front or back porches (the house has a full wrap around screen porch). Our kids love roaming the island collecting shells, bike riding and riding the golf cart. This was definetly the most laid back vacation we've had in a very long time. One I would like to repeat often to build those childhood memories. I highly recommend this rental! Plus: Location, screen porch, limited traffic and commercial activity, kids are free to roam Cons: Inconsiderate pet owners - not picking up after their dogs (we encountered a few) Tip: If you drink bottled water be sure to bring enough on your way over.

About the owner: We live in New Jersey and have been traveling to the Gulf Coast beaches for our recreation and vacations for over 10 years. The boating is fantastic and our time with our family has created a bunch of fond memories for us. Most Florida beaches are overbuilt and congested – it's hard to find a beach with so few people and so underdeveloped. Quite refreshing to say the least. We chose Don Pedro Island (Palm Island) for the natural beauty and 'Old Florida' feel. This chain of islands just may be the last true Florida beach you can walk down (7 miles long) and hardly see another person. We also liked that there are no beach bars and no high-rise buildings. It is the best of Old Florida, natural, unspoiled and a genuine paradise.
Why the Owner Chose Don Pedro Island:
We decided to purchase a home here for the unspoiled beauty of the island and the area in general. Englewood is a low-key Old Florida 'beach town' that reminds you of how Florida looked many years ago, without the huge high-rise condominiums and massive hotels clogging the beach. There are plenty of local 'home-grown' shops and restaurants and the fishing is some of the best in world. The beaches are fantastic and the boating is world-class. If you are looking for a great family area that is close to everything, but far away from the congestion, traffic and noise, you'd be hard pressed to find a better place. The only way to get on and off the island is by a 3 minute car ferry ride. Having no bridge to the island allows for a semi-private atmosphere and keeps beach going traffic to an absolute minimum. The island is all residential other than the resort area at the north end of Palm Island which offers a quality restaurant, deli and ice cream shoppe and small convenience store. Most all of the island traffic is by golf cart.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Staying on the island is not for everyone. If you like lots of places to shop, tourist attractions, beach bars and chain restaurants, this isn't the place for you. On the other hand, if you are looking for uncrowded and unspoiled beaches, great kayaking, fishing and swinging in a hammock under some breezy palms, this may be just the place. It's for a couple or family that wants some serious down-time ... a place to unplug and recharge your batteries and enjoy some great family time. Our house is pet-friendly with wood or tile floors throughout, a private outdoor shower (which is great for pets!) with a huge downstairs entertainment area complete with your own Tiki Bar. You'll also enjoy a private dock overlooking the lagoon and a great screened wrap-around porch. Our landscaping is all Florida native and offers a very private, resort-style environment.
