  We had a great stay at this cute beach house. We've been coming to the outer banks for over 20 years and have never had an amazing backyard like this one...beautiful fragrant plants, pool, landscaping...privacy! The lot is large & in a nice neighborhood. The entire backyard is fenced in. I thought the walk to the beach would be a pain BUT it was short and the path is directly across from the house...everyone stopped for us to cross RTE 12. The beach is beautiful. The kitchen was well supplied. The ice maker was very slow so we had to get our own ice...but Food Lion is really close (probably less than 2 miles away)...so it wasn't a big deal. We've stayed almost everywhere in the obx, from Corolla to Hatteras... we keep coming back to Southern Shores....and now we'll come back here to this house (if available!).

  Recommended for: Families with young children, pet owners.

  This home is absolutely beautiful. Clean, easy to access, pool was fantastic and beach was easily accessed in a 5 minute walk. There is plenty of privacy and is on a quiet street. Pool floats were provided along with bikes and beach chairs. Home is in an area with easy access to all area activities.We will be returning !! I would recommend this property to anyone and everyone.

  Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

  My family had a pleasant stay at this cute beach house. The backyard landscaping is incredible- we had a great time relaxing in the pool , reading under the pergola, or just enjoying the gorgeous plants & flowers in the garden! The lot was large & very private in a nice neighborhood. The entire backyard is fenced in which was great for our border collie. Watch out for the landscaping company that comes to cut the grass- they let our dog out, did not tell us and we found her wondering across the street!!! The walk to the beach was short and the path is directly across from the house. The road is very busy but we noticed that cars were more than willing to stop in the daytime to let us cross to get to the beach. The beach was not crowded at all which was a pleasant change from Duck last year. The house itself is nice with a large den. The 4th bedroom had a bed on the floor and no rugs -- we used it as a place to store our luggage and coclothes(the bedroom closets are very small). My suggestion would be to put twin beds and a throw rug in there so more people would use it as a bedroom. The kitchen was well supplied but the appliances were somewhat outdated-- the ice maker in the freezer was ultra slow, making only 10-12 cubes per day. Also, the oven was the slowest ever to heat- it took us over 2 hrs to preheat it to 350 degrees!! Management was made aware of these problems. Another suggestion would be to install a larger flatscreen TV in the den, maybe above the fireplace-- the tv was lost in such a large room. It was a good week but next year, I think we will return to an oceanfront rental.

  We rented this house mainly because it had a beautiful backyard (pool and outdoor seating), it was pet friendly and had four bedrooms. The backyard was beautiful just like the photos, however there was little outdoor lighting and more importantly...the access between the house and the yard was not ideal. First, the kitchen is on the top floor of the house and there is no back staircase or dumwaiter to quickly and easily get all your food and drinks out to the backyard. This was less than ideal. There is a refrigerator on the bottom floor but you still have to prep food 3 floors up and carry it down. Second, as another reviewer mentioned this house is technically 4 bedrooms, but the fourth bedroom is really a pet room. My children were eaten alive by something in that room (fleas? mosquitos?) and ended up sleeping on the floor of the master bedroom. I would highly suggest upgrading this room with bunkbeds and some newer furniture. Once we turned all of the living room cushions over to the "clean side" we felt better about the furniture. On a positive note, all the beach equipment and bicycles were great as well as the beach access. The little pathway was shaded and we enjoyed the wildlife on the little trail. It is a quick easy walk to the beach. You do have to cross highway 12 but that is evident by the map before you rent. Drivers stopped most of the time, but it isn't safe to let children walk by themselves. The beach is not crowded and you could see fireworks in both directions! Access to stores and restaurants was great. . I would return to this house if the 4th bedroom was upgraded, back staircase or dumwaiter was installed and the cleaning list a bit shorter...dusting is not my ideal on vacation.

  The house was clean and had almost everything we needed... the bedrooms are small, but who spends much time sleepinng on vacation? I would recommend some bunk beds in the fourth bedroom because there really wasn't room for kids to sleep anywhere... Kids didn't seem to care, but made it uncomfortable for the parents in double/queen sized beds... My son's favortite thing was the pool! Glad that the owner had extra umbrellas for added shading around the pool area... Swing is nice, but hits the wall behind it- I would relocate the swing as well... Manager and ownder were very responsive throughout our vacation- would recommend staying in this house to others... overall- good location for riding bikes and a quick walk to the beach- but watch for snakes! One was reportedly seen on the beach path- and one was in the backyard by the hammock...

  Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners.

  We had a restorative and relaxing vacation at this property. The house was spotless when we arrived, and all appliances including wi-fi worked perfectly the first time. The house was fully stocked with beach equipment including chairs, an umbrella, and beach toys including frisbees which we found really helpful. The house is about a two minute walk from the beach on a well defined path that was really easy to find. It ended up being the perfect distance from the beach: an easy quick walk, but no traffic from Rt 12 near the house (and no traffic noise!) The beach itself was perfect: clean and not crowded. We spent a lot of time in the GORGEOUS back yard and pool area. The landscaping was impeccable and the pool water was clean and refreshing. We found ourselves falling asleep under the shaded back yard area on the swing, as well as in the amazingly comfortable living room furniture. The house came with a very useful assortment of kitchen equipment, as well as two charcoal bbqs that came in very handy for casual dinners. We were very comfortable in the house with two adults and two teenagers. We could have fit one more person on the futon in the fourth bedroom, but that was unnecessary for this trip. Overall this was a fabulous experience and we would recommend the house to anyone looking for a low key, relaxing stay in the cute town of Southern Shores (no long drive up Rt 12 for us!). Thank you!

  Pros: Beautifully landscaped back yard, nice pool, fully equipped kitchen with anything you could ever need to use. Beach was clean and not crowded. Liked that beach toys, a basketball hoop and bikes were available. BBQ grill available, fenced in yard secure for those with dogs. Nice location in relation to attractions and restaurants. Decks were nice to sit on in the mornings/evenings. Cons: Really should be marketed as a 3 bedroom as the 4th is nothing more than a camping type mattress on the floor and appears to be a dog room. Definetly not suitable for my 2 daughters who usually room together on vacation. They ended up sleeping in the livingroom as the other bedrooms were being used. No bath tub in master bath, only a shower. We found the layout of the home to be awkward as the bedrooms are on the main floor and the kitchen/living room are upstairs. Made bringing in groceries a task. Bedrooms lacked TV's which we really missed when the kids wanted to watch something different than the adults. The TV in the livingroom is small for the size of the room making it difficult to see. The livingroom furniture was well worn in causing the cushions to slouch down making them uncomfortable to sit on. Walk to the beach took about 4 minutes through a wooded area with swamp like water on either side then crossing the busy Ocean Blvd street. Not a walk I would let my teen/pre-teens take on their own as traffic rarely stops or slows down in that area. Was provided with a checklist to clean the home prior to leaving. We spent our last night there cleaning bathrooms, scrubbing floors, washing bed comforters etc. The morning we left we were unloading the dishwasher at 5am. Not a fun way to end a vacation. Overall a nice location but not one we'd care to stay at again. For the price, we expected a bit more.

  It was awesome! The home was amazing. It was sooooo nice! I love the Outer Banks. And I already want to go back. THANK YOU so much for everything! It was one of the better vacations that I can remember. It really was amazing. I hope we can stay there again someday. Someday really soon.
