Sad...so, so sad... (and mad)
Sad...so, so sad... (and mad)
High points: Sleeps 8, has plenty of towels, and has a nice view of the lake from a spacious balcony. Low points: Where do I begin? To clarify the property description, this is not a two bath house. It is a 1.5 bath house for 8 people. There was neither covered parking nor a working ice maker. Although it sleeps 8, there was inadequate silverware and dishes for 8 people. The house was very poorly maintained. For starters, when we arrived, we had to remove a mountain of leaves from the front porch door just to enter the house. The same was true for the balcony and both required a rake to remove so many leaves. Our aging dog had his leg caught in a hole outside the front door. There were dead bugs throughout the house, most especially in the light fixture over the kitchen sink which was half full of bugs. The furniture and carpet were very worn and the light fixture/ceiling fan in the living room was dangling precariously from a wire and didn’t function. The electric socket by the mirror in the full bathroom pulled out of the wall. There was a drawer in the kitchen without a knob and another broken drawer that was hard to use. There was broken molding in the kitchen on which several people hurt their toes. The towel rack and toilet paper rack both fell off the wall upon use. One bedroom had no heat or overhead lighting and a toilet that leaked. The dryer had no working knob so could not be used. It was very obvious from the condition of the house that no one had been to the house to check on it prior to our arrival. Despite reporting issues on our arrival day as instructed by the property manager, our call was ignored by the property manager and we had no working dryer during our stay. The only call we received was from the cleaning person the night before we left who appeared to be the liaison between us, the renters, and the property manager. Probably the biggest issue was the lack of communication from the manager of the property. It was extremely difficult to get the necessary information before the rental was secured and even more so after renting to get our security deposit refunded. It required a threat to take action in order to get the money returned. We have rented vacation properties on numerous occasions and have never ever encountered such irresponsible behavior on the part of an owner. In good conscience, I cannot recommend this property for a rental.

We stayed in this horrible property for what was suppost to be our 1st family vacation in 5 years. It was one disaster after another. First we are told by the owner prior to booking it is Lake Front, where we could easly bring down our canoes and kyaks to the lake. When we first pull up to the property it is posted as no lake access! Then we go to cook dinner the 1st night and there is no gas in the grill. The stove took over 40 minutes to heat up plus another hour to cook hamburgers on a cookie sheet. Then that night when I got out of the Jacuzzy tub there was water all over the floor and into the kitchen. The next day we tried to walk down to the lake to take a swim and it was such a hard walk my husband would never make it down due to a knee replacement (we told her he has prior to coming) my lab had a very hard time getting back up the trail and so did I. I had to go up on all fours to get up it was so steep. The nasty kayaks they list as having had no paddles and were tied to a rock at he bottom of the trail (goat path) and were disgusting with no way to clean out. There were exposed wires on the cieling fans and could not use. The third day we were doing dishes and the pipe under the sink broke loose and there was another flood. This was the last straw. We called the owner and asked for our money back on only the nights we did not stay and was told no. She said we should have check it better before renting. We emailed with questions, checked reviews (I'm sure she posted) and spoke to her on the phone and asked questions. When we are in WV and this is TN I don't know what else she expected me to do. We have contacted an attorney who has agreed to take our case. We ended up having to pay for 2 places which was a big hardship in order to try and save or long awaited family vacation. Who ever built this house did not know what a level is, when you open the frig if you let go of the door it slams open and everything you put in the door falls out onto the floor. The deck is scary, not level and big gaps between the deck boards and wood is very old. How this house pasted building codes is beyond me. Owner was beyond unreasonable and that's why we contacted an attorney. We tried to settle out of court first and offered to not put a bad review but since she would make no concession we will felt if fair to post how our vacation was dicounted by the owner of this property. Other reviews are lies. They have been copied for our attorney!
