Cripple Creek chalet description
Any time of year, the Mountain Fortress provides a fantastic getaway for 1 to 10 people. The reason it is so popular is the location, views, comfort, ambiance, and amenities and they are available all year long! It's a perfect getaway no matter what the season. From November through April, take advantage of the off peak pricing and don't worry about snow. If it snows, we have the driveway plowed and the county plows the roads regularly. And when it snows, the Fortress turns into an incredible winter wonderland. And unless it's a major storm, which is very infrequent, bright sunshine melts most of it away with a day.
It has the best views in the area, some say anywhere, and you don't even have to go outside to see them. Every picture you see of views was taken from the deck!
This ultimate mountain getaway sits high atop a hill on the western slope of Pike's Peak, providing unobstructed views of the magnificent Sangre de Cristos mountain range right from the real leather living room sofa. This is a magical place and you'll feel it as soon as you arrive. An hour scenic drive from Colorado Springs. Very secluded and private on 2 acres and positioned for total privacy! This chalet style home consists of 2180 SF on 3 levels with floor to ceiling south facing windows. Great room features ample seating , electric fireplace, dining area and modern, fully stocked kitchen + 2 full bathrooms.
Enjoy complimentary high speed wireless internet on your laptop. HD flat panel TV in great room offers Roku LT box which gives you free access to Netflix, Crackle, Pandora Radio, Facebook, plus MLB.TV to watch both live/recent games. The large loft bedroom has a comfy king bed with full bathroom/shower, and overlooks the great room. Two bedrooms on main floor each offer queen beds and share a full bath.
Recently renovated lower level family room with direct access to spacious walk-out concrete patio and large hot tub/spa. Send the kids down here for their own big screen HDTV with Roku 2XS (best Roku w/ Angry Birds!), pool table/air hockey combo, and electronic dart board. Or bring your own gaming system!
The wrap around 600 sq ft newly refinished deck includes gas barbecue and comfortable options for dining or just sitting and taking in the view. Tastefully decorated throughout, carpet, tile and hardwood floors, vaulted ceilings. Very private romantic get away for two or perfect for a family reunion of up to 12.
Short drives to golf, rafting, great hiking and day trips to ski areas. Guides to all attractions available on property.
We don't nickel and dime renters like many vacation rentals do. We constantly upgrade the property. The owner stays there often and wants it to feel like home. We've recently upgraded the great room with a beautiful Lane leather sofa, loveseat, and recliner. For larger groups, the sofa easily sleeps an adult and the loveseat a child. The rec room includes a queen pullout bed.

Fabulous area adjacent to house for long beautiful walks. Just cleared dangerous debris with pet safety in mind. There was some barbed wire from the early 1900's scattered around property I have removed. My Boston Terrier 'Buddy' and I care about yours! Sorry, no cats (that was Buddy's call)....moreless

One of the best spots anywhere. Clean, comfortable, affordable cabin with lots to do. Florissant fossil beds, Mueller State Park and the Gold Belt scenic byway, not to mention Cripple Creek all very close. Great views out every window!

What a wonderful vacation. Mike was very friendly and very helpful. The directions Mike sent were perfect. We had no pro lens ring the place. My favorite part of the trip was drinking coffee in the early mornings on the porch enjoying the view! The location was so peaceful and quiet. The cabin had everything we needed! The only difficulty we had was cooking at high altitude...first burning pizza ;) Hope to return in the future!

We were very pleased with the Mountain Fortress we wish we could have stayed longer. We came to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary here and I can happily say that we enjoyed our 5 days here. The Mountains and the views are stunning. We had the windows open everyday and the temperature was perfect with the gentle breeze coming through. The Chalet itself is so comfortable and has everything you can possibly think of to make you feel at home. The Hot tub was amazing after long days on our Motorcycles. The Manager is so nice and it was so easy to make my reservations. I would recommend the Mountain Fortress for any occassion. We cannot wait to come back

Manager response: Dear Michelle and Group, Thank you for leasing Mountain Fortress and happy to hear you had a nice stay and some good Rides! Look forward to having you as return guests! Mike
Mountain Fortress was better than we ever expected. The home was immaculate and well stocked. The views were absolutely spectacular and the game room and hot tub kept the kids happy in the evenings while the adults enjoyed the large deck. We highly recommend this lovely place and will definitely tell our friends.

Manager response: Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to submit a review and we look forward to having you as a return guest! Mike
Our family stayed a week at the Mountain Fortress. The photographs don't really do the views justice, the views were amazing. Plenty of day trips around to do, and coming "home" to the hot tub was wonderful. The chalet was perfect for us. It was clean and very comfortable. We would love to return!

The Perfect Rental!
The Perfect Rental!
My husband and I have just returned home from a 5 night stay at the Mountain Fortress chalet. We've been looking for the "perfect" mountain cabin rental for years and we're happy to say we've finally found it in the Mountain Fortress! The descriptions found here are completely accurate. The chalet is comfortably furnished, well-stocked, and very clean. One thing we've found in the past is that so many of the rental properties don't have anywhere comfortable to sit and relax. Not true here, both the great room and the downstairs game room have comfy sofas, love seats, and chairs. The deck has great seating and stunning views in all directions. The chalet sits high in the mountains, nestled in the pines and aspens. We didn't stray too far afield, but it is close enough to many areas for day trips. We brought our food and the kitchen was stocked with everything we needed to prepare meals. Mike, the property manager, was very responsive to emails and questions. The rental process was easy and everything went smoothly. We will definitely be returning to the Mountain Fortress next year! SM

Manager response: Dear Guest, Thank you so much for the kind words. All of our guests have been wonderful but our "Out of State" guests always leave a Special gift with their appreciation of the beauty of Mountain Fortress. Thank you for leaving the property so nice. We very much look forward to having you as a return guest. See you next year! Mike
A fantastic place with a fantastic view

I'm writing the review after staying for the second time at The Mountain Fortress. Both times we stayed were wonderful. We fit 11 people comfortably into the cabin. It never felt overcrowded. We were even able to use the kitchen and utensils provided to feed everyone. The views are simply amazing. We were able to catch a few amazing sunrises and sunsets and even had a few brief snow showers move through. There are many, many places to explore within an hour of the cabin, so we were never bored. On the days we wanted to simply chill in the cabin, both TV's have a roku box to watch Netflix or Amazon Prime on, and downstairs has darts, a pool table, and a hot tub. I highly recommend to anyone.

Manager response: Dear Dylan, Thanks again for choosing the Mountain Fortress for your vacation. Also thanks to Jill and the rest of your group and for leaving the chalet so nice. Hope to see you many times in the future. Mike
My fiancee and I are from Canon City and were looking for a romantic getaway for the weekend to celebrate Valentine's Day and to attend the Cripple Creek Ice Festival. We had been looking for cabins in the area for the occasion and my fiancee especially wanted to stay in a cabin with a hot tub. After looking for several hours on the Internet for an acceptable cabin that was close to Cripple Creek, I came upon The Mountain Fortress cabin. It was spectacular, clean, warm, and very inviting. Although it was just the two of us, it could have easily accommodated 10 people easily and comfortably. The hot tub was the icing on the cake in which we relaxed and enjoyed very much in the evening. The scenery was just beautiful, peaceful, and serene. Directions to the cabin were very clear and easy. We enjoyed our stay very much and will definitely be visiting again in the near future.

This place was a great find! We needed a mini vacation and this was perfect. There was plenty to do inside and near the cabin. Mueller state park had great hiking! We went to McGinty's to eat lunch and it was AWESOME. There were only 4 of us who stayed and there was plenty of room. I would stay again!

Manager response: Thank you Kim for taking the time to submit review. Hope to have you as a return guest! Mike
My wife and I stayed at Mountain Fortress for a week with 3 other couples. It was easily the best lodging experience I have ever had! The home is extremely clean, well maintained, and gorgeous. The property manager, Mike, makes himself available if you have any questions. We needed help with the internet and one of the heaters, and Mike walked us through everything over the phone, and even called the next morning to make sure things were still going well. We got a little snow while we were there, and someone - presumably Mike - came and plowed the driveway so we could get out if needed. The views from the porch, great room, and loft are even more spectacular than imagined from the description and pictures. The amenities included at Mountain Fortress are great as well. Full access to Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hi-Speed WiFi, as well as a pool table, air hockey table, dart board and hot tub offer plenty of entertainment options. The full kitchen and gas barbeque grill provide everything you need for meal preparations. All of the rooms are very nice and the beds are comfortable. The bottom line is that if you are looking for somewhere unique, beautiful, and cozy to stay in Colorado, choose Mountain Fortress. You'll be very satisfied with your stay!

Manager response: Dear Stuart, Thank you for submitting such a well written review. I feel your review has expressed the experience that we are trying to provide for our guests. I would like to take credit for the driveway plowing but that task was performed by others. I really hope to have your group as return guests. Please let me know if you have any special accommodations for your return visit. Sincerely, Mike

About: My name is Dave, I just turned 50, and before I became the 2nd owner of 'The Fortress' in 2003, I lived in Manhattan. I left my position running the news desk for a major news network to write and do freelance tv producing and directing while I worked on my novel. Haven't finished it yet, the views up here were too distracting! :) I lived at 'The Fortress' from June 2003 until I had to return back east to care for my elderly parents in 2008. From March 2008 until January 2012 the place was rented full time, and I decided to make it a vacation rental so I could come back and enjoy it myself. I now reside in Henderson, NV. I am still doing video producing and directing as well as some writing.
Why Cripple Creek:
I chose this as my full time home and was very sad I had to leave. In my opinion, this is the best view/location in the community. My real estate broker took me here in April of 2003 and after 15 minutes on the property, which was a private vacation only home for its previous owners (built in 1999), I decided to make the move and began working on the financing same day!
The Unique Benefits at this Chalet:
The most bang for your buck you will get anywhere for people who want real value in this type of location. About 250 yards from the back of the house is the border of Mueller State Park. This property includes the great natural beauty of the state park. I have designed this place to have the best of both worlds. It's comfortable and modern, still with a rustic feel. And it includes modern technology so you can stay in touch with the real world....if you want to.
