Fairlee cabin description

This private log cabin on 11 wooded acres overlooks Lake Morey and has a fabulous eastern view of Franconia Notch and Mt. Moosilauke. From the swinging hammock chair on the deck and while enjoying your favorite beverage, you can enjoy great sunrises and moonrises while receiving, as one guest put it, “Fairlee therapy.” The first thing that most visitors say when arriving at the cabin is “wow!” Keep your eyes open as we often spot hawks, eagles, owls and an occasional hot air balloon.
Included are two kayaks and a canoe and a beach pass for the Fairlee town beach. The Lake Morey public boat launch is 5 minutes away. The cabin is 10 minutes away from a public boat launch on the Connecticut River, one of many from which you can plan a canoe or kayak trip on the river. There is a network of hiking and mountain biking trails maintained by the Lake Morey Association right off the porch. Also 5 minutes away are great road bike routes. One of our favorites crosses the Connecticut into New Hampshire. There is a bike route for everyone – from short and easy to a century ride. Lake Morey Country Club is just down the hill with a great 18 hole public golf course. There are also other excellent public courses in St Johnsbury and Hanover, both within a half hour. Hanover, New Hampshire (home of Dartmouth College) with concerts, fine restaurants and theaters is 20 minutes away. On the lower lawn, there is a picnic table and a fire pit. This recently built and carefully maintained log cabin is a perfect spot for rest and relaxation or as a base for multiple activities to satisfy the ardent athlete or the quiet nature lover. For the sportsman/woman, there is fishing in Lake Morey, the CT River or Lake Fairlee. In the fall there is direct access to the Fairlee town forest and other hunting areas.

We wanted a cabin that was secluded and that would give us a good feel for what Vermont had to offer for a vacation destination. We certainly found the perfect spot! My husband and I hiked Bald Top Mt. with our dog the first day. Trail was right from the cabin! The next day we walked the 5 miles around the lake (no hills after the day before thank you) and we were able to drive into North Woodstock to check out the village with plenty of time to relax with a book on the porch before the sun went down. Walking around the lake you could look up and see the cabin up on the mountain! How jealous those lake house owners must be! Hopefully we will visit again.

We couldn't have been happier. The cabin was cozy on our rainy days, and the town bech was a quick trip on sunny days. Corresponding with Mike was absolutely great. He was so prompt and considerate. A++

We came into town for our son's graduation from Dartmouth. Since there were a few of us, we decided to rent a home instead of a hotel room, which turned out to be an excellent decision! Working with Mike, the owner, ahead of time to coordinate the rental and receive information about the area, late arrival, etc. was so easy. The home was absolutely perfect - easy to get to, clean and very close to Dartmouth (18 minutes drive). The view from the upper deck was absolutely breathtaking and it truly felt like we were "on vacation" which we didn't expect to feel during such an intense weekend. We were so pleased with this home and with Mike in particular; he ensured our stay was absolutely perfect and we felt so welcome! We would definitely come back to this wonderful cabin (great CD music options too) and recommend it highly to anybody travelling to this part of the country for any reason - thanks Mike!!

I can’t say enough about this place, except that it is absolutely the best! My husband and I stayed here and just hated to leave. The pictures simply don’t do it justice. You have to see it for yourself to believe it. The cabin has a fantastically rustic and authentic feel all while being modern and immaculately kept. The setting is complete paradise; you won’t find views like this anywhere. We had a great time hiking in the woods, canoeing on Lake Morey, grilling out, bird watching (thanks to the hummingbird nectar), making S’mores around a campfire and just relaxing on the porch in the swinging hammock chair taking in the incredible view. We also made it to a few local spots like: Fairlee Diner, Wings and Whippi Dip. This was an excellent place to kick back, relax and enjoy the beauty of nature. Thanks again to Mike for letting us share his little piece of heaven.

My first instinct is to give a terrible review so that no one else reserves this wonderful cabin and I can have it all to myself, but honestly it is a heavenly place. A true log cabin with a stunning view of Lake Morey that you will never forget. It has a comfy and private master bedroom, plus plenty of beds in the loft. A fully equipped kitchen makes restaurants optional, and the hammock chair on the deck will become your fav snuggle spot. We were visited by four deer that stayed in the yard for over an hour one morning - just beautiful. Behind the cabin is a trail leading into Fairlee Town Forest... hiking anyone? We visited in November, and the wood stove kept us toasty warm. No TV, but we found that turning on the stereo and having a dance party was way more fun. On the last day of our stay I had the privilege of meeting the owner... we had lunch at Fairlee Diner, then chatted for three hours. Just a great guy, and a new friend. Thanks Mike! And yes, we did reserve for next year. ;oP

My friends and I rented this cabin last this past weekend. What an amazing spot! The view was spectacular and the cabin was very spacious and super clean. The owner was also very helpful as we made our plans to stay here. We needed a location close to a wedding we were attending and this worked out perfectly. The cabin was such a great find, that we will look to book it again next spring/summer for a weekend away. I would highly recommend this property if you are looking for something in this area. Could not have been more pleased.

Our family stayed here and enjoyed every minute of it! The house was well equipped with the comforts of home, while still maintaining a great wilderness feel. Mike made us feel very welcome, and went out of his way to tell us about the local area. We very much enjoyed the beautiful scenery, the endless views from the deck, and the peace and quiet. There are also lots of antique shops, restaurants and sites to see in the area. We would recommend staying here to anyone, even though we would rather keep it a secret! Thanks again, Eric&Jill

This has been our family’s yearly destination for the past 14 years. Great place to get back to good old fashion fun; swimming, walks through the woods, catching fire flies, smores by the fire pit, playing board games, drive-in movies (even with the occasional thunderstorm). If you need relaxation there is no better place than sitting on the porch swing looking at the beautiful view over the lake. This is one place where your kids will not miss watching tv or playing video games.

Loved every moment at the cabin! A beautiful view, tucked off the beaten path but 5 minutes from town/groceries. The lake is very close too. Hiked to Bald Peak, kayaked Lake Morey, cooked out, veged out.

                          Owner info

                          Year Purchased: 1999

About the owner: We are outdoor enthusiasts and would love for out guests to gain as much enjoyment from this spot as we do. Mike is a former senior administrator in higher education with a background in outdoor recreation and natural resource management. He also loves music, plays guitar and piano and sings. Big fan of Bruce Springsteen. Favorite activities include cycling, golf and hiking and just being outdoors. Nancy works as a professor at Union Institute and University after a long career as an elementary school teacher and is a life long educator. We have a dog, Otis, who is a 2 year old black Lab and a joy to walk with. Otis recently completed his first 4000' foot peak as we scaled Camel's Hump in March.

                          Why the Owner Chose Fairlee:
Initially, it was to find a vacation home within 2 hours or so of home in western Massachusetts. Although Mike had lived in VT before, he had never really known this area of Vermont until taking up an offer from a friend to spend a few days at a family cabin. He fell in love with the area because it reminded him of the Connecticut River Valley of his youth, complete with a drive in theatre. After looking at other properties, this one had the location and the VIEW. Easy access to I 91 (1.3 miles) made it easy to travel from Massachusetts. Shortly after building the cabin, while sitting on the deck one Sunday reading the paper, Mike saw an ad for a job at a college in Randolph, applied and got the job. Now living in Randolph, it is less than an hour to get to Fairlee from home.

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Let's start with sitting on the deck and enjoying the view. Sometimes, it's a hard place to leave. For the active outdoor person, there are a variety of things to do. For the less active, there is easy access to many Vermont attractions. We have intentionally not added cable or internet because it is meant as a retreat from the hustle of everyday life. If you must be in contact, there is good cell phone coverage and the Fairlee library offers a wi fi hot spot. Not being on the lake offers more privacy while still being close by.. The character of the cabin is still rustic with all of the basic creature comforts needed after an active day, assuming that you can leave the deck.
