We have rented many homes throught the years and by far this was the cleanest, most comfortable, well stocked and well thought out home of them all. The owners have truly created an oasis where guests feel welcomed and very comfortable. The home is beautiful inside and out. Every detail is well thought out with the guest in mind. A lot of love and thought went into this home- as it is obvious. There are plenty of clean linens, robes for both bath and pool , and more than enough dinnerware, tools, and extras for the kitchen. They even provide the little extras like olive oil, spices, and a bit of paper goods for the picnic we had down the path towards the river. Bath essentials are provided as well which was just an extra little perk. The gift basket was so sweet, again making you feel very welcomed. The guide to hiking the property was much appreciated (ned necessary) too! The decor was perfect for the house/cottage- not overdone...but very nicely done. Everything seems to be right where you need it. Like cute coasters on the bedside and binoculars to check out the eagles when sitting on the couch or balcony. The Hudson Valley and river books provided are a joy to read. The Hudson Valley is so beautiful and it was nice to peruse a bit before heading out to our next destination. And when in doubt, there was enough literature/pamphlets to help make a decision. I can go on and on about this home and the atmosphere here. I almost did not want to let out the secret. The owners truly created an environment where guests feel welcomed and 'on a getaway'. Oh, and the views and property with the perfectly placed chairs just top off the whole experience! Thank you for sharing this lovely home and making it so special. We hope to be back sooner than later! Gabrielle and JohnDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Our family just enjoyed a wonderful long weekend at The Cottage at Sunset. The view is so beautiful, and we had a great time exploring the property. The house is very comfortable and extremely well maintained. Everything we could ever need was provided - plush robes, thick towels, kitchen supplies, toiletries and even a thoughtful welcome basket. And we especially loved taking a dip in the pool after each day's activities. The Cottage at Sunset was more than we expected or could have imagined. My husband and I rented the cottage for 3 nights and all I can say is that it wasn't long enough! We had a cozy fire each night. The cottage is absolutely adorable. Elizabeth has thought of everything! When we arrived, there was a bottle of champagne waiting. She has great directions of where to go to eat, where to shop and things to do. The cottage is fully stocked with all of the utensils you will need for cooking, making a fire, having a BBQ, etc. There are even playing cards. Be sure to visit the farmers market - it's wonderful. We also had a delicious brunch at the Rhinecliff Hotel where they had live music. If you go to Hudson to eat - we found Red Dot had very good food. The pizza at Baba Louie was pretty good if you like a chewy crust and if you're in the mood for Mexican, go to Mexican Radio - it was very good. You should also take a hike through the woods around the property. The trails are well marked and you will find cute faces in the trees. I can't wait to go back!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway.

This rental is distinctive and unique. Situated with gorgeous, close-up views of the Hudson and amid beautiful trees and landscaping, the "cottage" is built with an unusual design: the downstairs with its glass-walled heated pool and spa (you can rest your chin on the edge of the pool and see the Hudson), the upstairs luxurious and cosy at the same time. It contains all amenities, and then some, clearly a labor of love on the part of the owners. Kitchen is beautiful an extremely well equipped, all arrangements are thoughtful; all is immaculate. We caught the wonderful foliage, but I'm sure it's for all seasons. There is total privacy. The area has much to offer and cottage is just 2 miles south of Olana. The owners are extremely helpful. We certainly hope to return.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway.

The Sunset Cottage lived up to its description--and more. We have rented quite a few times, and this was hands down the best house we ever rented. So much care went into the building of this magical cottage. And the supplies left for us were amazing. There's even a kit for an emergency allergy event. Then there's the dumbwaiter to take your laundry to the laundry room! It was like a discovery adventure where we found new goodies every day. The owners were there when we arrived and were so cordial that we felt immediately at home. The information they provided about restaurants and nearby sites to visit were outstanding.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

This place is amazing! We spent the morning at the farmers market and then went back to the house and made a big brunch! We hiked around the property and then took a swim... Now we're going to barbeque and eat by the pool. Tomorrow were going apple picking :-) not a bad weekend!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We flew into Philadelphia and drove up to the cottage. When we arrived we found a welcome basket that included treats for our puppy! We did a lot of sightseeing and walking in the nearby towns of Hudson, Rhinebeck, Catskill and Germantown, as well as, a cruise up the beautiful Hudson River, Amtrak into New York City and apple picking at local orchards, all recommended by the owners. We hiked along the property's walking trail admiring the personal touches along the way. Lounging in the swing, gazing at the awesome views of the Hudson River and surrounding area was so peaceful and enjoyable. We found the time to relax in the spa one evening. The home and all its' amenities is very well maintained and secure. Well worth the price. We loved our time spent at the Cottage at Sunset and definitely plan to return for a longer stay in the future. Thank you for a perfect vacation destination.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

If you have read the description above and looked at the photos, you will NOT be disappointed because it’s every bit as awesome as it looks! The home is brand new and feels it, yet everything has been placed at your fingertips, which shows how much care the owners have taken to make this such a wonderful place to stay. We were taking our first trip out of town with our 5 month old and our priorities for our getaway were 1) privacy and quiet 2) great views and 3) a kitchen so we didn’t have to go to restaurants with our infant. We found everything we needed and then some! When they say the kitchen is fully stocked, they mean it, - we brought a load of food and they supplied the rest! Enjoying the heated pool and hiking around the yard and woods gave us no reason to leave the property, but we did also enjoy a brief trip to a nearby ‘pick-your-own’ farm. Overall, you couldn’t ask for a more scenic, luxurious, and peaceful place to escape!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We had a great long weekend at the Cottage on Sunset. Elizabeth had a basket of goodies waiting for us and even included a toy for our cat. Turkeys were on the hill when we arrived and we started the next morning watching deer in the meadow behind the house from the bedroom. Our cat had a great time exploring and enjoying the view before declaring himself king of the tree stump on the hill. Everything in the house was pristine condition and the kitchen is very well equipped with high end cookware and appliances. The sunsets were spectacular and after dark you can watch the boat lights go by on the Hudson. There were even a few fireworks on the other side of the river on Saturday night. We had a great time and will definitely return for a repeat visit.Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway.

Why the Owner Chose Germantown:
The beauty of the valley speaks for itself. Located 100 miles north of NYC, Columbia County is a slowed pace country wonder with surprising upsides: tremendous historic significance, stimulating cultural events, quality restaurants, quaint shopping, serious antiquing, abundant outdoor activities and sunsets matched by no other.
The Unique Benefits at this Chalet:
It's all about the view! The moment you step onto the ridge you will be taken away by the mountains and the mighty Hudson River. This multi-county area is steeped in historic properties and is the heart and soul of the Hudson River School of Painting. Artists Thomas Cole and Fredric Church built their estates a stone's throw up the river. Roosevelts, Vanderbilts and Astors have long called this valley their home.
Although there are ample gently rolling trails, hiiking around the entire 23 acres can be challenging as the steep slopes of the river and abutting kill jet up to a high ridge. This was once a Native American campground overlooking these bodies of water. Arrowheads and artifacts have been found here for years. The beauty is not lost on the abundant wildlife that feeds here. Wild turkeys, deer, ducks, geese and bald eagles are common visitors. It's a wonderful place to explore.
