Progreso house description
Our home is exactly what you're hoping for! Here are the 9 reasons this home stands out from the others.
1) TRULY BEACHFRONT. Not 'close to beachfront' or 'ocean view.' Your back yard is made of sand, and there is nothing between the house and the ocean except our own sandy beach front lot. Our lot is 250 feet long, and other than our house and pool, it's all sand!
2) HUGE PRIVATE POOL. One of the largest in the area. Most pools in our area are considered 'plunge pools.' Ours is possibly the largest private pool in the entire region. It is 40 feet long and 16.5 feet wide (12 meters x 5 meters). It also includes a children's area that is knee deep for adults and perfect for toddlers and young children.
3) THE AMENITIES YOU NEED TO STAY IN TOUCH WITH THE WORLD: DirecTV (with all the premium movie channels), Free Wireless Internet, and a Cell Phone included in your rental!
4) A UNIQUELY DESIGNED, WELL BUILT HOUSE WITH AIR CONDITIONING in both bedrooms. Most homes in this area are older 'box' homes that are 20-50 years old. Our home was built in 2004 with top-shelf building materials, including a lot of tile in the kitchen and bathrooms. It has a unique architectural design, including 3 beautiful columns that support a shaded back patio overlooking the ocean.
5) EASY ACCESS from Cancun or Merida. Cancun is a 3.5 hour comfortable, inexpensive bus ride from Merida on a major highway, and Merida is only 30 minutes away. Our home is located in Chuburna, the best (most tranquil, best beach, closest location to the bigger towns) location on the coast north of Merida. It's 15 minutes to Progreso, which has a large (Wal Mart owned) 'everything' store and a cruise ship pier and malecon that you can see from our beach! McDonalds, Starbucks, Home Depot, Wal Mart and more are only 30 minutes from your door in Merida.
6) GROUND TRANSPORTATION IS PROVIDED for you! Our property manager will pick you up or drop you off at the airport in Merida and will be happy to take you to Wal Mart, drop you off at the mall or another tourism site, and do whatever you need for your entire stay! There is a fee for these services. By the way, our property manager has a law degree from the University of Mexico, lived in Nashville for 10 years, and speaks perfect English.....she'll be 5 minutes down the road from you during your stay!
7) SAFETY. We're in the state of Yucatan, which is absolutely, positively the safest location in all of Mexico. Look it up. Check the stats. It's safer than Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and where we live in the USA.
8) OUR HOUSE IS NOT LOCATED ON A HIGHWAY. We live on a quiet, sandy street. Many homes in this area are located right on the major highway that passes by. If you have dogs, children, or just want to take a peaceful walk from your house, it may not be possible from many homes in this region. We also have a fenced in back yard that provides a little extra peace of mind for those of us with pets and small children- no need to worry about them wandering off with a fenced in yard!
9) We also own a Toyota 4 Runner that can be rented by the day for a very economical rate- just $55 per day (including insurances) or $250 for the week. As the home renter, use the car 1 day for free for each week you rent (exact 'free' days to be determined 1 month prior to your arrival)! You'll pay nearly $100/day for a family vehicle renting from the airport in Cancun or Merida- we used to pay that much as well- that's why we finally ended up buying a vehicle and passing along much of the savings to our renters.
Just a couple of years ago we were looking for a rental home for our family to spend some extended, quality time together. During our time on the coast north of Merida, we visited all the towns and many homes. After seeing all of the coast, we felt that Chuburna was the ideal location because of its beautiful beach and proximity to Progreso and Merida.
When we discovered that our current home was for sale, we knew there would never be a better location for a beach home. The only thing it was missing was a pool! So we added a huge pool in the back yard, and now we have the perfect home on the beach!
Our house was built to North American standards, including heavy construction, pleny of excellent lighting, and 3-prong electrical outlets everywhere in the house.
We have 2 large bedrooms. The first is a master bedroom with king size bed (Spring Air Mattress), its own bathroom, and its own door to the patio and beach. The second bedroom has two double beds, and both bedrooms have their own new A/C unit with remote control.
The kitchen and living area are an open floor plan. The kitchen has tile countertops, plenty of space, and small bar that overlooks the kitchen. The living area has comfortable sofas and a full dining room table and chairs.
Most importantly, this entire home is built with incredible beach, pool, and ocean views, and it all leads to your perfect oceanfront location! We have outdoor chairs for adults and children, beach loungers, and a full patio chair and table set.
Our yard is completely made of sand. In the front yard, we have a number of coconut trees and a banana tree. The back yard is the same. Feel free to take a nap on the sand under your beach front coconut tree!
This home is all about the beach, ocean, pool, and being outside. It's about relaxation and rejuvenation. You'll never take a vacation that is more stress free than having your own beachfront home with private pool in a cute Mexican beach town!
In Chuburna, you'll find a number of convenience stores and small restaurants serving some of the best seafood you'll ever taste....and it's all just a short walk down the sandy streets from your home!

Peaceful with modern conveniences.
Peaceful with modern conveniences.
This house has internet, tv, a microwave and an awesome pool! That should make everyone happy. The living areas are very comfortable. The beds were a bit hard, which is typical, but the extra pillows helped with my back issues. My husband thought the bed was great. There were enough dishes for cooking. The washing machine was a nice plus. Everything worked! There are several little shops within easy walking distance to purchase basics and snacks. We picked up about half of our food from the nearby shops. It was awesome having the ocean right outside the yard. It is quite shallow with a sandy bottom - great for kids. A very friendly black dog adopted our house as his. I contacted No Mas Perritos (Facebook) to get him neutered and vaccinated ($200 pesos to neuter a street dog). Turned out he is actually the neighbours dog! Oh well. .. he was still nice to hang out with. Consider helping out a street dog or two while you are there!

The pool is just like an infinity pool, it is beautiful. The view of the pool w/ the beach is fabulous. The bathrooms are very modern as the entire house is! It is a very quiet area, the beach is quiet, the streets are safe enough to walk at night and the town square is only a couple of blocks away. The people are friendly and there are many wonderful restaurants w/in walking distance. Overall a wonderful experience, we brought our two young children and we cannot wait to come back, hopefully this same time next year! The property manager and owner are very nice and helpful!

Excellent Place for Relaxation
Excellent Place for Relaxation
I travel to Merida for business and found this to be a wonderful home for the weekend. There were 4 of us who enjoyed our short stay out of the hotel and city center of Merida. The location is very quiet, peaceful and secluded. We had a peaceful time in the house and outside looking at the beach while enjoying the wonderful pool. Everything was readliy availale for us. Thank you for letting us enjoy your place, I can't wait until the next time. WIFI is wonderful and not always avilable in these remote locations. A big plus for us to be able to stay connnected to work and family over the weekend.

wonderfull family time
wonderfull family time
We spent a wonderfull week there with our two teens. The house is very functional, clean, confortable and away from the crowds but close enough to everything we needed. The village of Chuburna is quiet, safe and everybody was nice and welcoming. The view was great and we enjoyed just sitting or walking on the beach for the Sunset. The pool was incredibly large and deep, with a secured baby part for those with small children. We played for hours so we didn't suffer from the heat. Some nice and affordable restaurants just 5 min walking with the local fishing of course. Los Delfines was our favorite. We appreciated also the bakery offering fresh and hot bread and pastries. Merida is just 50km with the highway and Uxmal is less than 2hrs. Veronica, the manager on site, was realy helpful, specialy when we locked all our keys (house and car) in the house. We called her and she sent us the pool guy very quickly to unlock. Wifi worked well to plan our visits around and even if we didn't watch it that much, TV has many channel choices in Spanish and English. Thanks to Gina the owner who answered to all my questions and offered us a priceless family vacation opportunity. We defitely recommand this beach house!!!!

A piece of paradise
A piece of paradise
Since arrival, this place is magical. We spent a month relaxing in the beach, in the pool and visiting the neighboring Chuburna, Chelem, Progreso and Merida. The house was great for our family; the pool was perfect for our girls to keep practicing their swimming. The beach, how can describe it, really there were no words to describe it, tranquil, warm, inviting. The people around the area are very friendly and helpful. Veronica, the property manager, was always very friendly and helpful as well as the folks who maintain the property. Food in the area is great; we got fresh fish from “Cristo Rey” in front of the Church as well as fresh tortillas from the tortilla-store next to the elementary school. Definitely we’re looking forward to return in the future.

Excellent Vacation Home
Excellent Vacation Home
My new husband and I loved it here! Private and peaceful enough to avoid crowds and tourism AND close enough to cities, attractions, and community if that's what we want! Super helpful property manager, and excellent recommendations from owner. We loved the pool (very clean, big, and beautiful) and used it every day in addition to our "backyard" bech walks. We do recommend that you know some Spanish to stay here as this town and those closest are not SUPER English otiented! Highly recommended location overall!

Great place to relax with your family
Great place to relax with your family
My family and I had a great time at this beach house located in Chuburna Puerto, a small fishing town with nothing but local people and a few Canadian neighbors that live in this town full time. The property is clean, very pretty, and very well maintained. The pool is awesome! And the beach is literally just a few steps from your back yard with 80 degree water. We slept comfortably in the bedrooms which have air conditioning. We came to this place with the intentions to relax and just lay around the pool and the beach, which we did! We truly enjoyed our walks through the beach every time we went to the little plaza to buy fresh tortillas every afternoon. We brought nothing to the house but our suitcases...the house is equipped with everything you need to have a pleasant time with your family. You do have to buy your own food. There is a cell phone in the house for the guests to use to communicate with the property manager Veronica, but we used email and it worked great. Veronica is super nice, professional, and very helpful. She is quick at responding any questions you might have, and she also speaks English and Spanish. Carlos the pool boy was such a nice person and hard worker. We were amazed at how clean and presentable he keeps the property. The back yard has good lights at night in case you want to relax in the pool while enjoying the stars. The living room and the dining room furniture is nice, presentable, and comfortable. Sofas, chairs, and stools are well padded and in excellent condition. The TV is newer and big enough to enjoy a movie with your kids if you need a break from the sun. The house also has a good selection of books and movies. The bathrooms are brand new and nice! We rented the owner's car for a couple of days to go to Progreso to buy groceries, which is about 15 mints from Chuburna, Puerto. Progreso is one of the main ports/beaches around the area where you can find banks, big grocery stores, pharmacies, etc. Chuburna has a few restaurants where you could eat sea food and pescado frito, but we best recommend Los Delfines. As in any tropical weather place, there are mosquitos, so bring your repellent. The house has screens. The washer machine was helpful! People in this town are nice and friendly. We loved our time here and we are planning on going back in the future. The house was the perfect size for our 10 year old and 18 year old. Thank you Gina for making sure our vacation was fun and pleasant!! Sincerely, The Brauns

Trouble in paradise...
Trouble in paradise...
This home is beautifully constructed with a very comfortable pool. We picked the wrong time of year to come - off season- hot! Air conditioner in bedroom only - not turned on until we got there. Manager gave us a cell phone to use. The next day the electricity went off, phone din't work, - we waited a couple of hours then drove into town (30 minutes) to find the wifi zone. Emailed Minnesota - they said they would fix. Came home at 5 pm - no electricity - no messages anywhere. We packed up and went to Merida- not wanting a hot sleepless night in the dark. Saw the manager on the way out of town - too little too late. Great facility - poor climate control, infrastructure, management, communication. Did get a partial refund.

Manager response: Thanks for following up with a review of your stay, even if it was only for one day. We appreciate all feedback regarding our home, and aim to learn and grow from every experience. Due to recent heavy rains, a line shorted out and our home was without electricity for an afternoon (this has never happened before or since). The renters emailed us at 2:45 pm, and we informed Veronica (who had not been notified) the power was out. Veronica was in Merida and sent a worker to the home to check on the issue while she went to the electric company to ask if there were any known power outages in the area. When the worker arrived, the renters were not home, and he proceeded to find and fix the issue. Veronica then went to the house, but the renters were already packed up and driving away without communicating with anyone that they were leaving or talking to our property manager about the issue. The issue was fixed and power was restored and operating at 100% normalcy less than 5 hours from when we were notified. We refunded the renters for the day plus another for the inconvenience. It's a bit perplexing to read this review, as we're not sure what more can be done if an issue arises; acknowledge the issue, fix it as quickly as is humanly possible, and compensate fairly for the inconvenience. If the shoe was on other foot in this scenario (and it certainly has been as we travel and volunteer all over the world), we'd have been more than pleased with the response. No one can control all the variables of life; what we can control is our response and reaction when we encounter an unforeseen circumstance. The following email was what we received from the renters when they arrived: Gina and Matt, Yeah! We made it made through the jungle and over the topas to Chuburna. It's even more lovely in person! One of my favorite things is your fossil stone - wow! After looking at the ruins at Tulum, Coba, and Chichen Itsa (and last year the Roman Forum) - with stone like this, your place will be part of the tour in a thousand years... Thanks for letting us stay in your place, Jean
Private Beach Vacation Home
Private Beach Vacation Home
My two best girl friends and I chose this beautiful beach home for our first Girls Getaway Trip. We were looking for somewhere to go where we could reconnect and have conversations without our kids interrupting and also enjoy some nice warm sunshine and ocean views. This home provided this perfectly. We had perfect weather each day with full sunshine and temps in the 80s and 90s. The breeze off the ocean was wonderful, so it never felt too hot. This beach home is so unique because it completely provides you with your very own pristine private pool with a gorgeous view of the ocean without having to worry about anyone else bothering you. We also did enjoy venturing out of the gate of the property onto the beach for walks and to swim in the ocean. This is the most perfect swimming beach as it is so sandy and the water was warm. The locals that we met were so friendly and most only spoke Spanish. I found this wonderful as I then had an opportunity to brush up on my Spanish. It was so nice to feel like we were experiencing real Mexico and still have the comforts of home. We really appreciated the property manager, Veronica, who is fluent in English for all of the help she was to us. She helped us to decide where to eat, and drove us into town to get groceries. There is a cute little store just a block or so down the sand road that we enjoyed walking to to get a few remaining things. They have a water cooler with filtered water in the house so it was very nice to not have to worry about buying bottled water. This was the most relaxing vacation I have ever had. My favorite part was just having our own space and pool with the most gorgeous ocean view! I am now looking forward to bringing my husband and children back for a family vacation sometime in the future. Thank you to the owners of this home and the property manager for providing my friends and I with such a memorable and relaxing vacation!

This incredible beach home has everything you need for a true tropical getaway...privacy, serenity, and beauty. On arrival, we were kindly greeted by the property manager, Veronica, who conveniently took us to Walmart to get any groceries we needed for our stay. She was readily available during our entire stay. The house itself was immaculate and fully stocked with basic necessities. The large, pristine pool and its proximity to the ocean is a definite highlight of this home! After many walks along the beach, viewing other homes along the coast, it was evident that this beach home has the best pool in many ways. Not only does it have a shallow area for kids, it is also fenced in keeping small children close by and creating privacy for adults, yet maintaining a clear view and easy access to the ocean. We also enjoyed having a massage therapist come to the house for complete relaxation and privacy, and at a great price! Walking to nearby restaurants for fresh, inexpensive seafood was another highlight, in particular the shrimp at D'Davids. We also enjoyed the short drive to Progreso for some shopping and good food. We also felt very safe and secure during our stay here. The neighbors and locals are very friendly people yet respect one another's privacy. I will definitely want to come back for a longer stay to investigate all that Merida has to offer! This vacation home offered the beauty and many conveniences of a large resort, but the privacy and serenity we experienced cannot be compared!

The Unique Benefits at this House:
You simply won't find a home to rent that has a better combination of location and amenities than this one. I know this to be true because we've spent time living and working in this area, so we know exactly what North Americans expect to remain connected with the world, but we also know North Americans are looking for when it comes to convenience, relaxation, and most importantly.....a house on the beach!
