Light-Filled Log Home, 4 Wooded Acres, Lake Access & Hot Tub
- Minimum stay:2-5 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
A quintessential Maine retreat, filled with the natural beauty of wood and sunlight and all the comforts you desire. Enjoy your coffee on the deck, breakfast on the screen porch, and a dip into David Pond any time you like just a short walk down the road. Experience the beauty of a mature perennial garden with its lush colored flowers, birds, and butterflies. Treat yourself to true quiet, true darkness, and stars so bright you feel that you can almost touch them.
This beautiful log cabin sits on four wooded acres surrounded by hundreds more, with lakes in every direction. Sunlight streams into the gracious main floor through large, trapezoidal windows above and two sliders out onto the generous wrap-around deck, where your hot tub awaits. The living area is open concept, kitchen-dining-living, with a majestic cathedral ceiling and an adjacent furnished screen porch. Also on the main floor is a bedroom with a double bed, the main bathroom, and a flat screen TV.
Upstairs in the master bedroom, wake up in your comfy queen bed and catch the sunrise through the upper windows. Enjoy your own half-bath, sitting room with loveseat that opens into a single bed, and plenty of room for a pack 'n' play if needed. A high chair, and various other baby items are available upon your request. All closets and dressers are fully available for your use throughout the house.
On the lower level, but still above ground, is a large family room (or third bedroom) with a double futon, 32' flat screen TV, and spa quality treadmill. From there, a doorway to the outside takes you to the front lawn on the right, or to the outdoor shower with a freshly constructed wooden privacy screen on the left. If you have never taken a shower under the sky, you are in for a treat. Of course, there is a shower inside as well!
From the house, you can walk, mountain bike, snowshoe, or cross country ski through a beautiful conservation area forest to Basin Pond and beyond. Nearby are many established and maintained, well-marked hiking trails, mountains to climb, golf courses, lakes for boating, and even a wild animal park. You will enjoy the sense of peace and seclusion while knowing that you can still hop in the car and go out to a great coffee spot, if you wish. The Olde Post Office Cafe is only a 10 minute drive north in quaint Mount Vernon village, written up in DownEast Magazine.
Extensive shopping is available at the two Augusta exits from I-95 (25 minutes away) as well as a vast array of restaurants and an award-winning health club and spa. Freeport, home of L.L. Bean and a host of other outlet stores, is 45 minutes south. A trip to the coast, or to Portland, or to Sugarloaf Ski Area takes less than 90 minutes. Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, and Baxter State Park are a bit farther but worth the ride.
You will emerge from this vacation rested and refreshed, having seen stars brighter than you can remember. You will leave the state understanding the highway sign slogan at the border that reads, 'Maine, worth a visit, worth a lifetime.'
Keywords: Beautiful log home, nestled between the charming villages of Kents Hill and Mount Vernon, lake access on pristine David Pond, just south of Parker Pond and west of Echo Lake, near Kents Hill School, Camp Laurel, and the Belgrade Lakes.

My husband, dog, and I spent a week in this cabin and enjoyed all the amenities that the cabin had to offer. The deck captures sun most of the day and the privacy of the cabin was just what we were looking for. The location of the cabin was ideal for day trips and coming back to the cabin to enjoy the hot tub was so relaxing. The fireplace was attached to the thermostat and we enjoyed many nights with the warmth and relaxation of the fire. The owner was easy to work with and even let us borrow one of her acoustic guitars:). We would highly recommend this cabin for those who want quiet, relaxation, and romance.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: We are so glad you enjoyed your week! Glad to help out with the guitar -- just lucky I happen to have one. You inspired me to get new strings and to play again myself. I'm glad you enjoyed the fireplace and the hot tub, and that you found it convenient to travel to some of the beautiful villages on the coast. I was very impressed that you drove all the way to Maine from Michigan for your vacation! Do come again!

We stayed at the log home for our honeymoon and could not have asked for a better location. The cabin was just as described and very cozy. The location is great as it is secluded but only 1-2 hours from many of the port towns and adjacent large cities making for easy day trips. The owner was absolutely amazing. She was so helpful and went above and beyond her role as the owner to see that we were taken care of. Our favorite eating/drinking establishment that we visited was The Liberal Cup in Halowell (about 30 mins away), which was recommended by Kathie. The food was amazing and we found the local people very enjoyable company. For anyone looking for a secluded cabin with beautiful surroundings I would highly recommend this cabin. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you for your review! I will never forget that you chose our cabin for your honeymoon! I know you got a healthy dose of winter, and yet you really enjoyed your time here. Thank you so much for making our home a part of such a special memory. And thank you for the beautiful card with the picture of the cabin on it. You did a beautiful job designing your cards. I hope we will have you again someday!

My wife and I used this cabin in the woods for a retreat from jobs and kids for our anniversary and we really enjoyed everything about this place! The owner was super helpful and available over email before and throughout our stay. Also, the hot tub was amazing (even in Winter) and we cannot say enough about the bakery in town. Stay here if you can!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you so much for your review! We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you will come again. Thank you for taking the time to write and let us know that you were happy with the Log Home.

We just spent ten wonderful days during the Christmas/New Years period of 2012. It was the perfect place to escape and relax. The cottage itself was simply amazing! It was cozy and extremely comfortable for a winter getaway. When we arrived on 24 Dec there was little snow but by the 26th we had an extra 2-3 feet of the white stuff! This made for awesome snowshoeing up the trails to Basin Pond and to Cranberry Pond (which there was no trail but with GPS was an awesome trek and adventure). The cabin was extremely clean and the hot tub was a happy place to relax in after a few hours of snowshoeing. Although the cabin is not situated directly on the water it was only a short 5 min walk to David Pond (if we stayed longer ice fishing would have been on the list). We ventured into the local towns and to Augusta for dinner on a few evenings, and have no complaints found some great meals and the cabin is close (10-20 mins tops) to all amenities. We were able to bring our dog with us (a 12 YO Boxador) who had an amazing time wandering the woods and the trails with us, he was pretty comfy in front of the fireplace most evenings. The owner was amazing, great to deal with! She provided excellent info up front to prepare for the trip and she even "even decked the halls" with Christmas stuff which was a really nice touch! All in all this was an amazing find and we would strongly recommend this cabin for a getaway in any season. We are looking at going back in the summer as we loved the place soo much! Was a perfect retreat for a romantic, relaxing winter vacation!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you so much for this wonderful review! You were terrific guests and I hope you will return. You will be amazed at how different it is in the summer, as you can see by looking at the photos. I couldn't be happier that you had a great time here. Happy New Year!

Cabin is modern and in good shape with internet, satellite TV with DVR, great decor, hot tub, gas fireplace, books, games, firebowl to roast marshmallows, and excellent location (for us that meant near Kents Hill). Hostess is extremely friendly and helpful. In a nice woodsy neighborhood with privacy and good to walk around, with a trail to either lake (not right on the water). A great place to relax with easy access to sports camps at KH, fishing or swimming on lakes. A great vacation for us!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

House was awesome, but the lake was like not having one there was no where to sit and enjoy, could not swim, needed to have a small boat to enjoy it.Recommended for: Romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thanks so much for visiting the Log Home. I'm glad you loved the house, and sorry you did not enjoy the lake front as much. True, it is not a sandy beach, but my neighbors and I enjoy swimming there and we take our grandchildren and other visitors to swim there. The water is clear and there is a long dock and float for sitting and sunning, and a couple of Adirondack chairs and a picnic table on shore. Along the edge there are large, flat rocks. When I swim, I slide in off of one of the rocks, or I climb down the ladder at the end of the dock. I have some new photos of the lake access that my daughter took when she visited in July, and I notice that VRBO is now providing space for more pictures. I will post them so prospective guests can get a better sense of the waterfront before they commit.

My husband and I just spent a wonderful three day weekend in Kathie's log home. It was just what we needed - clean, quiet, comfortable and well equipped. The kitchen had everything I needed to cook dinner and desert one evening; a true home away from home. During the day we explored the local area, enjoying the scenery along the way. It seems there's a pond or a lake around every corner! Kathie was very easy to work with and provides a great welcome package that covers everything from directions to local restaurants. We loved the breakfast at the Olde Post Office Cafe! I'd highly recommend this home for anyone looking for a relaxing, stress free vacation or quick getaway.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

My husband and I stayed at this property and it was everything we were looking for this vacation. The log house was absolutely beautiful and very clean. Surrounded by the large pine trees, privacy was here. This house is not very visible from the road so you can relax on the deck, read a book and not be bother that vehicles are going by. Nature is all around and the lake that we had access too was extremely clean, crisp water. I went to the lake one morning and was lucky enound to see some Loons on the lake. If you want quiet and nature surrounding you, this beautiful log house is the one to rent. The owner was more than helpful with any questions we had and is a very nice lady. We will definitely be going back! Thank you Kathie for sharing your log house with us!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks to YOU! So glad you appreciated all the privacy and natural beauty. I hope you will return!

Owner was very nice and helpful with any questions. The house was as pictured in the photos and was in a very quiet area. We very much enjoyed staying at this house and would rent it again! It was one of the cleanest homes that we have stayed in. Gerry & Don New Hartford, CTRecommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: I am so glad that you enjoyed it, and hope that you will come again! Also so pleased to hear that you found the house to be very clean, since I was cleaning it myself at the time. I have now found an excellent professional cleaner. It was a pleasure having you!

About the owner: I moved to Maine in 2003 in the spirit of simplifying my life and have never looked back. I left a high powered position with many employees and a lot of stress, and embraced the Maine people, places, and lifestyle. There is a very low crime rate in Maine, people are honest and hard working, and we all seem to value the beauty of our natural surroundings. There is a lot of culture to be found, and plenty of fun outdoors, to be sure. My husband is a retired scientist now editing scientific journal articles, and I still work in higher education. Grandchildren have suddenly become a big part of our lives! We look forward to sharing our getaway with you, as we have moved nearby into our permanent retirement home but cannot let this log home go just yet. We hope that you will enjoy it as much as we have! Kathie Jameson
Why the Owner Chose Kents Hill:
I love log homes, and we have actually owned three of them over the years. This one is the most striking because it faces due South and the light is amazing. It has passive solar benefits and just has a great feel. Because it is not all tongue-and-groove inside -- the ceiling and some of the walls are white or other colors -- it is not dark like some log cabins.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We love the true silence, the sighting of animals, and the stars. I always enjoyed going into the hot tub before bed or when first rising to enjoy the peacefulness of the morning or the stars late at night. We enjoy the opportunities there for outdoor activities of all kinds.
