The Parlor is a fully furnished one bedroom apartment located in Uptown Manhattan, in Harlem, New York. The apartment is on the 1st floor of a private 4-story 1895 brownstone townhouse.
This apartment features 12' ceilings and modern furnishings and professionally designed accents. All lights are on dimmer switches to provide an intimate setting. There is a color video buzzer/intercom system for guest entry.
The living room has a 46'' swing-out, wall mounted LED flat screen television and DVD player as well as a remote control radio/iPod player. The iPod player is equipped with an iPod which has a Harlem Hideaway playlist of blues and jazz. Wireless Internet access is also provided. Original over-sized photographic artwork creates a dramatic focal point. Enjoy sitting in the vintage government-issued dentist chair. The sofa folds out to become a full-sized bed. The well-stocked bookshelf provides eclectic reading. Original shutters fold out for privacy.
The kitchen features stainless steel appliances: full size refrigerator with auto ice maker, dishwasher, four burner gas range with oven and a built-in microwave/fan. Also provided are a blender, toaster, coffee maker, dishes and flatware, glassware and mugs, cooking pots and pans and utensils. There are plenty of cabinets with under-counter lighting. Dishwasher detergent is provided, as well a filtered water pitcher.
The washer and dryer is next to the bathroom. Detergent is provided. The cabinet next to it holds bedding, extra towels, an iron and garbage bags as well as plenty of storage space.
The bathroom has a claw-foot bathtub with shower option, as well as hamper, hair dryer, exhaust fan and free gifts in the cabinet for the ladies!
The bedroom is accessible though beautiful sliding doors with intricate woodwork above. The art deco wood wardrobe has ample size as well as drawers and trouser hangers. Original wood paneling and fireplace add charm to the bedroom. The memory foam queen bed features a vintage reading light and is next to the window providing gentle garden breezes. Shelves hold a small library along with a clock radio/iPod player. The large windows also feature fold-out shutters for privacy, although you will love the view of the beautiful private garden below nestled under sheltering birch trees. A vintage oscillating wall fan is right across from the bed. Original sliding pocket doors keep the bedroom private.

Modern day comfort in a townhouse apartment with all the beautiful original features. Nice and quiet street in a lively neighbourhood. Many good restaurants and shops around the corner. Public transportation, both subway and bus nearby. For a slow ride downtown we liked to take the bus. We have visited New York city several times and every visit we have stayed in a different neighbourhood. We liked this place the best. Thank you De3nnis for your hospitality! This was our first trip to the East Coast, and we had the privilege of staying in this beautiful home for four nights. Dennis is a wonderful host, very thoughtful and kind. The home was exactly as described and has just about anything that a couple needs for a very comfortable stay. We were amazed at how quiet the home is -- we heard very little noise from either inside the building or from the outside, even with windows open. We very much enjoyed being part of the neighborhood, walking to the nearby subway station daily. Cafe Latte, a wonderful little cafe with great food and decadent deserts, is just around the corner and quickly became our go-to eatery for take out dinners. This was our first time in NYC and it was amazing!.. not just because of the city and all the places and attraction we met.. we felt like we were at home in that apartmet!..The neighborhood was very nice, the accomodations great, we were really close to midtown and downtown..also Central Park... Harlem Hideaway was a fantastic choice for our home away from home. Dennis is amazing and was helpful throughout the entire process. We are sad to be leaving and cannot wait to return. You've made a wonderful place, beautiful, funky, fascinating, with all possible comforts. And the quiet was blissful. Do not hang towels on the shower curtain ring. Empty the lint basket before using the dryer. Use cleaning pods for both washing machine and dishwasher. No laundry after 9 PM. Recycle papers in a paper bag or stack in the closet shelf. You may empty the garbage in the front area of the building. One can is for trash-black liner, and the other clear liner is for recycling. Be considerate of the other guests by keeping the noise down. No hard soled shoes before 8 AM or after 10PM. Be happy.

About the owner: An enthusiastic New York and Harlem resident, always ready to give the inside scoop and recommendations on Harlem or NYC. Very involved in the neighborhood. A product, landscape and interior designer with numerous awards and items in national museums. In fact, the building has also been published in several magazines and appeared in films. A world traveller, as I flew for Pan Am for over 7 years.
Why the Owner Chose Harlem (Central):
This building is typical of the historic neighborhood. I was impressed that it still retained so much of its original form and material. However, I was very impressed by the atmosphere of the block, with friendly, open and involved neighbors.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
The quiet friendly tree-lined street, proximity to express subway- only 4 stops to Times Square, closeness to neighborhood coffee shop and historic park, as well as the 125 St. corridor and Central Park.
I actually love sitting on the front stoop while having a coffee or a glass of wine. I love seeing the relaxed street life going by, and being a part of it. Since my block is dominated by private brownstones, rather than apartment buildings, it has a friendlier, small town feeling than most other neighborhoods.
