The 'Highlander Cabin'- Your Mountain Getaway at Hidden Lake
- Minimum stay:N/A

This magnificent cabin is located within the gated mountain log home community of Hidden Lake. We sit approx. 10 miles south of the town of Marion, NC below the I-40 interchange, and off of Hwy 226S.
You must see this home to appreciate all that it offers! Constructed of solid cedar logs, The Highlander, is as grand as its name. It has been fully appointed -top to bottom- with only the best and most comfortable furnishings! Upon entering the home, you walk into the ever spacious Great Room, and that it is! A wall of nothing but floor to ceiling windows greets you, looking out over the mountains beyond.
The Great Room features a comfortable sectional with lounger, set in front of the 50” flat screen TV with DirecTV and DVR service. There is a nice cozy electric fireplace in the room, just great for those cooler evenings! Having an open floor plan, the Great Room opens into the Kitchen and Dining areas of the home. Tile floors, countertops, and backsplash, this kitchen has everything you need and more. Stocked with all the pots, pans, glassware, silverware, utensils, etc. you will need to make the meals of your desire. The highbar dining table and chairs has seating for 8. And just off the dining area is the ever so quaint enclosed gazebo breakfast nook. Be sure to check inside the storage benches for board games, cards, and more! Access to the open back deck is from the gazebo, where you can view wild turkey and deer on an almost regular occasion in the evenings at dusk. There is a dining table and seating for 6, along with a propane grill on the deck.
Also on this level you will find a smaller half bath just off the kitchen, that also houses the laundry area for the home. A spacious master suite is beyond, with a queen size bed and another large screen TV. The private full master bath with a tub/shower is located off of it.
Up on the 2nd level of this home is the beautiful open loft area. From here the mountain views are even better! One will find a poker/card table with seating for 4 and all the chips you’ll need for that perfect bet! There is also a fun fooseball table for others to enjoy. There are 2 more bedrooms on this level – again both having queen beds. The bathroom has a walk-in shower.
Heading down to the lower level of the home, you’ll notice the extra wide stairway. This leads to the finished basement area of the home, and brings you into the Recreational Room first. This is “the” place to be if you enjoy a game or two of pool! Sticks provided, but feel free to bring your own. A dart board is also here to enjoy. The room looks out to the mountains, but you may just be looking at 3rd large screen TV which is here. There is a bar with bar stools - a perfect place to make that drink, and also a fridge to chill your beverages. An outdoor firepit is just beyond the french doors, but you will need to bring your own wood to burn.
Two more bedrooms are also on this level, again each having a queen bed. The bathroom features a tub/shower. All bedrooms in the home have new dressers, nightstands, floor & table lamps. Mattresses are all queen size, and bedding is of higher quality, and very comfortable!
If you don’t find everything you need within the house, head out to one of our common areas within the community. We have our Lakeside Park and Pool Area – giving you the only lake access that is permitted. Here you can fish from our boardwalk or floating dock. Just remember it is catch and release. Or if you have any type of canoe or kayak, you are welcome to bring it along with you, since we do not have any to rent out. Larger, motorized boats are not permitted. Additional fishing, boating and swimming beaches are available at Lake James approx. 25 minutes from us.
We do not allow swimming in the lake, but do have a very nice seasonal inground pool that sits above it. There is a poolhouse containing showers and bathroom facilities. And you are welcome to enjoy the tables and chairs provided. Just keep in mind we have a lot of full time residents that also like to enjoy this area during the summer months. Pool passes will be issued upon check-in.
For those with smaller children, we also have a nice log-style playground with swings, sliding board, and rock wall. There are picnic tables and outdoor grills scattered about the area, if you are wanting to spend more time by the lake. Another smaller common area is our Streamside Park. It too features picnic tables and grills, along with a horseshoe pit. Another amenity guests enjoy are our walking trails. Easy enough for everyone, the wooded trails take you behind some of the properties here, and along a small pond that is not part of the community, but still nice for viewing.
We provide a very informative binder with all sorts of information on the local areas including maps, brochures, menus, guide books, etc. This will certainly help you find your way around more easily.
We regret that we are unable to accept pets of any type. This is also a non-smoking residence. Please contact us today to reserve this wonderful home for your next vacation or getaway! You won't be disappointed!

We absolutely loved this place. Our family takes short and long vacations throughout the year for various reasons and often use vrbo to book our accommodations. The Highlander Cabin is unanimously our favorite place we have stayed and there are 8 of us now. The place looks exactly like the pictures, no surprises or disappointments. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay much longer. It was an oasis to come back to with all the busyness going on which was exactly what we wanted to provide for our son the days before his wedding, peace and solitude. Thanks so much for sharing your amazing cabin. We hope to have the opportunity to return.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

This is the first time I've ever left a review on VBRO despite having rented through the site many times in the past. This cabin is fantastic; far exceeded my expectations. After looking at dozens of other cabins for our weekend getaway, I had reservations about the location of this cabin (too far from the 'real' mountains?), and was a little concerned about the cabin's immediate surroundings (is that a road in the backyard? Are those mountains, or hills in the distance? Why aren't there more photos?). Upon arrival however, those concerns all fell to the wayside. This place is tucked way back in a secluded corner of the 'neighborhood'. There are no other cabins within sight, and the 'road' beyond the backyard was more like a gravel drive, and we only saw one car on it during our 4 day stay. My wife, 2 daughters (9 and 8) and I stayed with another family of 3 and had plenty of room. We never once felt crowded, or felt a lack of privacy. The bedrooms are all very spacious and the entire cabin was very well appointed. There were big stacks of fresh, soft bath towels, hand towels and washclothes in every single bathroom. It honestly felt like we were in a model home. The construction is amazing, and fits the mountain cabin design concept to the T in my opinion. Kids had a fantastic time in the loft area, in the basement, and good portion of time outside exploring the woods just outside the cabin. They were disappointed when it was time to go, as were the adults. We explored the common areas in the neighborhood; kids loved the lake dock area. We fed the white donkey out on the main road by the cool old house. We took a day trip to Chimney Rock, and went skiing at Sugar Mtn one day as well. The store-bought 'firepit' could easily be improved upon. We never used it but it seems really small, and shallow. I'd build a rock ringed pit if I owned the place. Would be safer and far better looking. If you want a campfire however, don't worry about bringing wood as there's an entire forest ripe for the picking right next to the house. Downstairs pool table and bar area exceeded my expectations... VERY nice, not cheap by any means. TV and couches in the main living area were fantastic. I would rent here again in a heartbeat; great price, well-constructed and maintained and spacious cabin, and lots to do in the area. Hope this review helps.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children.

We vacationed at the Highlander for my son's state T-Ball tournament in Marion. One of the greatest aspects of this cabin is its location. The back deck has an amazing mountain view with only a couple distant lights off to the left. There are no homes in site on the mountain range which makes this location so perfect. The house itself was more then adequate for 3 families with plenty to do between the pool table and games. The house also had a fire pit out back and plenty of room for us to set up the corn hole boards. The lower level rooms are huge and may as well be two additional master bedrooms. There is a great lake to drop a line and fish as well as an great in ground pool that is well maintained. We took our boys to the gold/gem mines near by and on our next trip we plan on hitting the caverns, fisheries and waterfalls. I wish we had more time here. I can not wait to come back! It was one of the most relaxing vacations I have had in years. On a side note, bring some groceries. The kitchen has everything you need but the closest grocery store is a slight drive (not a bad thing).Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
