For a great price you can stay where those who have unlimited choices and funds choose to stay. This very uniquely spacious and green resort like development is a destination for those who wish to experience all the beauty of the Western Caribbean.
The South Seas flavor of Palmetto Bay Plantation’s Balinese architecture adds unobtrusive artistry to the coastline it works to protect. Pristine coral reef just off shore from miles of secluded white sand beach is protected behind the gated road to the 150+ acres of meadows and gardens spaciously surrounding vacation and residential homes. Designers of the plantation have preserved the natural beauty of the bay while providing very inviting and comfortable accommodations and amenities.
The plantation is just a short boat ride within the reef from a public golf course, The Black Pearl. Additionally, the plantation hosts a National Geographic PADI dive operator, dock, pool, and restaurant along with outdoor and personal services.
The exotic, architecturally designed Balinese homes are cool and quiet with wood floors that are like silk. The 9 foot louvered and screened sliders let in the tropical breezes, scents of frangipani, chirps of geckos at night and the songs of birds during the day.
To insure your comfort and living needs, Villa Serena is connected to an automated backup generator. It comes on automatically and does not make any noticeable noise in the villa or on the lanai. You may only notice it switching on due to a flicker of the lights. Villa Serena is well furnished for entertainment, cooking and easy living.
The drive to Palmetto is along the coast before getting to the more populated part of the island along the north shore. There is no need to compete with the cruise ship traffic on beaches or along mountain ridge line roads or drive through highly populated areas along narrow twisty roads.

Villa Serena a Habitat of Stars
Year Purchased: 2001
Why the Owner Chose Palmetto Bay
We chose Palmetto Bay Plantation because of the unique qualities of the development and homes. We very much liked the open space, serenity, beauty and miles of vacant beach. It is a home that has been easy and inexpensive to maintain. We enjoy our friendships with the people from the village nearby.
The Unique Benefits at this House
It is wonderful to go to sleep to the sounds of geckos surrounded by silence and cool tropical air, and wake to the sounds of birds. It is unimaginably peaceful and restful. I love the long walks on the beach where all I see is sky, water, trees, sand, birds and maybe a boat. I love seeing healthy, growing coral and fish so numerous they are like liquid. I know what and who to expect so that it is always refreshing to rekindle old friendships and make new ones.
Black Pearl is open to the public and can be reached via a short boat ride within the protection of the reef.
Grassroots conservationists creates breeding habitat for recovering species.
100 year old wreck partially out of the water which can be seen from shore at Palmetto Bay Plantation. It offers some of the best snorkeling I have ever experienced. There are lots of Starfish in these waters due to the lack of siltation.
Site of what was a thriving village of 300 homes where oak casks and indigo were made. The ruins of an old fort made be seen during a short boat ride out to the key it sat on. There are lots of stories of Duppies and gold centered around the ruins.
Owner's Map of Palmetto Bay
To live our dream, my husband, son and I moved to Roatan from Colorado Springs where I voluntarily left a career as a IT Project Manager. Scott was part owner in a real estate business in the Black Forest and Andrew was struggling with high school at Pine Creek. Our decision to move and home school Andrew had lasting positive effects on our son’s future. We used a tried and true home school program and heavily supplemented it with courses from The Teaching Company. After high school graduation, Andrew became a Dive Master. He received a full scholarship to undergraduate studies and is now working towards a master’s degree. I developed Linda Kay's Bodyguard, a botanical bug repellent promoted by the marine park. Scott continued with real estate. We have moved back to the US so we may continue to enjoy the company of our son. We settled in the Low Country of South Carolina and Andrew is at SCAD. We have a very competent and carrying group of people there on Roatan who see to the needs of those who visit. You may see the team on the Tropical Island Villa web site.

We had a lovely time. Having been to several countries in Central America during which we rented homes, I have to say, this was the most comfortable and we loved Palmetto Bay Resort. We fit in with the ecologically friendly resort, and we loved the comfort of having our own house to go back to every evening after exploring Roatan or spending the day at the ocean. The walk to Palmetto Bay's restaurant/bar/pool is a mere minute and a half away. Beyond that is the beautiful beach. We had the best of both worlds, drinking coffee each morning on our deck while enjoying the flora and fauna (the hummingbirds were even more beautiful than in Maine). It is a vacation we'll remember for a long time!
Recommended for:Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We stayed here with 3 twenty something children for a dive vacation. It was so much better than doing an all-inclusive package. The villa is ideally located, spacious, and well-equipped. It was wonderful to be able to come back, fix lunch, read on the porch or in the hammock. We loved the louvers on the windows and doors. It may be hot in summer but it was wonderful for us. We rented a truck so were able to get around easily, though the rutted road could be challenging for more timid drivers. We bought groceries and fresh fish in Coxen Hole and cooked almost all our meals. Kevin brought us extra water containers because we are all big water drinkers. We took our own DVDs and had family movie night several times, complete with microwave popcorn. There is not a lot to do right at Palmetto Bay if you are not diving but it is a great place just to relax and have a real vacation.
Owner response:We try to make all the surprises happy ones. Besides visiting our own vacation home, we are renters, as well.. Kevin and I and the Palmetto Plantation team continue in our efforts so that guests want to return. We always take the constructive input of our guests to heart. Linda Kay

Villa as stated, great time fun staff at the bar enjoyed them all. Foodat the bar not very good., definateley stop at the store for your own groceries and cook there. I would absolutley suggest a car. Soo much of the Island to see with wonderful reefs to explore, not really any good snorkeling at the villa beachbut great at parrot tree plantation behind the wall, coco reef awsome ( just like the discovery channel),media luna along the iron shore also great each place you go is different and take the roads you don't think go anywhere they lead you to great places. West bay beach good beach , long and wide sandy botom with some fair snorkeling a good place to spend a beach day and especially with kids. Did the dive course with laurie, do it if you can great intro and probably the cheapest you will find anywhere. If you are going to cook there bring a few basic items(seasoning etc if you can, there is nothing there as far as that goes. The grocery store have everything else and above all be flexible, leave your pre concieved ideas at home and just go with the flow and you will have an absolutely wonderfuland amazing experience, EXplore, Explore Explore and DON'TFORGET THE BUG SPRAY, YOU WILL NEED IT EVEN IF YOU DON'T USUALLY HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THEM.

When we opened the sliding front doors of the villa we were awestruck. Absolutely beautiful, tropical high celings, great layout and windows, decks, and doors in all direction. Plenty of breeze and airconditioning not needed which is what I like in a beach vacation. Great having the kitchen, we cooked fresh seafood and kept the fridge stocked with beer from the nearby(ish) store (20 minutes over a bumpy dirt road, but our tiny, not sold in America $25 a day rent a car handled it with ease) The grounds were nice, but I do recomend a rentacar so you can explore the entire island if that's the kind of thing you like (we did, going both all the way to the east and west ends of the island). The house was just a beautiful place to relax, the pool was awesome and the staff was nice. I'd recommend this villa to anyone looking for a relaxing spot a minutes walk away from the beach (and the location is better than on the beach to us....quieter) Thanks Linda, Jeff

Beautiful, serene accomodations and tropical gardens with a very romantic atmosphere. Leave the kids at home and take advantage of this wonderful getaway. I think the most noise I heard during the week was the crabs playing in the sand and the occasional rainstorm that brought cool temperatures and fresh smell of rain. Nice secluded beach and great food at Palmetta Resort. The Chef knows what he is doing. And don't be afraid to try his Lasagna. It is awesome!!! Wonderful and helpful staff. Very nice people, every one.

We spent the month of November, 2006 and our extended vacation was wonderful. The staff at Palmetto are wonderful. Thanksgiving dinner was a real treat. If you have never been to Roatan you are missing out on the consumate white sand beaches of your dreams. We have been to Roatan twice and will return again and again. Palmetto is special due to remoteness. The cruise ship refugees rarely make it all the way to Palmetto. Peace and quiet are in abundance here. If you are planning your first trip to this rental there are good grocery stores, meat markets etc. and you can purchase anything you may require on the island. The meals prepared at Palmetto are very good if you choose to dine out. Since we were there for a month we rented a car and found it quite handy. We loved Palmetto and will visit again.
Owner response:It is always nice to hear that people enjoyed their stay. I would like to say that in a Roatan perspective Palmetto is not 'remote' ~ Port Royal, Camp Bay, Calabash Bight and other locations down that way are remote ~ Palmetto is 'secluded' as it only takes about 15 minutes via car to get to some of the best food markets on the island.

Thanks! I wanted to drop you a note and thank you for your beautiful home to spend our vacation in. We enjoyed every minute (even the sand flees!) It was a pleasure to stay in such a nice place. Everything was well taken care of and there was an obvious attention to detail. We are safely back home and actually have arrived back to Spring! 60 degrees! Thanks again for the use of your home! We hope to return to Roatan in the future.
