Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2001

My husband son and I moved to Roatan from Colorado Springs where I had a career as an IT Project Manager and Scott had a real estate business in the Black Forest. After our son finished home schooled high school, he became a Dive Master and is now a recent graduate of Berea College. I developed Linda Kay's Bodyguard, a botanical bug repellent promoted by the marine park. Scott continued with real estate.

Why the Owner Chose Palmetto Bay

We chose Palmetto Bay Plantation because of the unique qualities of the development and homes. We very much liked the open space, serenity, beauty and miles of vacant beach. It is a home that has been easy and inexpensive to maintain. We liked the people from the village nearby.

The Unique Benefits of this House

It is wonderful to go to sleep to the sounds of geckos surrounded by silence and cool tropical air, and wake to the sounds of birds. It is unimaginably peaceful and restful. I love the long walks on the beach where all I see is sky, water, trees, sand, birds and maybe a boat. I love seeing healthy, growing coral and fish so numerous they are like liquid. I know what and who to expect so that it is always refreshing to rekindle old friendships and make new ones.

    • We spent the month of November, 2006 and our extended vacation was wonderful. The staff at Palmetto are wonderful. Thanksgiving dinner was a real treat. If you have never been to Roatan you are missing out on the consumate white sand beaches of your dreams. We have been to Roatan twice and will return again and again. Palmetto is special due to remoteness. The cruise ship refugees rarely make it all the way to Palmetto. Peace and quiet are in abundance here. If you are planning your first trip to this rental there are good grocery stores, meat markets etc. and you can purchase anything you may require on the island. The meals prepared at Palmetto are very good if you choose to dine out. Since we were there for a month we rented a car and found it quite handy. We loved Palmetto and will visit again.

      Homeowner Response:
It is always nice to hear that people enjoyed their stay. I would like to say that in a Roatan perspective Palmetto is not 'remote' ~ Port Royal, Camp Bay, Calabash Bight and other locations down that way are remote ~ Palmetto is 'secluded' as it only takes about 15 minutes via car to get to some of the best food markets on the island.

We loved our stay here at Villa Serena. It was a very special time for us to really slow down & immerse ourselves in the beauty that surrounded us. We explored the beach and the water below, the hillside ..... * We have had an enchanted time. Cooking for ourselves was also a fun reprieve - simple food. I experimented with the cumin in an omelet w/our Mexican rice & I will do that again. I've used it previously in a dip for veggies - I have no specific measurements - just to taste - cumin in Miracle Whip w/honey to sweeten - great with cauliflower/broccoli, etc. I couldn't work the manual can openers very well (I will replace these next trip to SPS, LKM), Edmund helped but the can was a shambles by the time we got it open. Your special sprays are wonderful. I think I relaxed to much on our walk I soon learned that the little darlings could find me w/out my protection. Thank you for all your hospitality. We enjoyed our time here very much! I will especially remember your great stories! You have the makings for at least one book! I enjoyed Clive Cussler's "Golden Buddha" in less than 2 days & gave it to Edmund. I'm making a note to read his other series. Now I'm enjoying the "Sorcerer's Crossing"- like your marked pages - I took notes. I keep meeting people who instruct me in breathing & its necessity. A nurse, a Hune teacher (Hawaiian mysticism) - etc. The is another vantage point. I wish we had days to sit and talk. I found you totally delightful (Thank you Karen and I you as well, LKM). Scott, too. Wishing you the best, Karen & Edmund ps: We wish Andrew much success w/school!!

Thanks! I wanted to drop you a note and thank you for your beautiful home to spend our vacation in. We enjoyed every minute (even the sand flees!) It was a pleasure to stay in such a nice place. Everything was well taken care of and there was an obvious attention to detail. We are safely back home and actually have arrived back to Spring! 60 degrees! Thanks again for the use of your home! We hope to return to Roatan in the future.

Enjoyed our stay here, your house was very nice. Sorry about the VCR but when it goes, it goes. Well we came here and did what we have been talking about for years. We bought a beautiful piece of property at Milton Bight. WE look forward to building our Island home here in the near future. Thanks Scott for all your time & dedication to helping us locate our little slice of Paradise. We'll be back as soon as we can. Steve & JoAnn

(These remarks were taken from an email communication to verify address for deposit refund.) Hi Linda. We had a fabulous time, and your house was just lovely!! And yes, I may say that it was quite warm, and we finally found a place hotter than Florida in the summer time. We managed to stay cool by staying in the water by day. The evenings cooled off thankfully, and it was quite comfortable. We would have thrown out the food, but we felt guilty and we were hoping that the cleaning personnel could use what we left. There was a power outage the morning we departed and hopefully nothing spoiled. The address below is correct and you could make the check out to either of us. By the way, we turned in the Nissan pick up and picked up the Trooper from Island Car Rental as you had reserved for us. We are still unsure of how the mix up took place, but all worked out well. Thanks again!!!
