We had a wonderful week here, in September. The vacation home was very well located, just a short walk to a private cove on the Lake. The cove was nicely landscaped and good for young children to swim in, with steps and also a gentle ramp into the lake. We felt very at home in the cottage and enjoyed seeing deer most days from our window. This is very well located for swimming, and is also very close to Chimney Rock, and the town of Lake Lure. Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway are close by too, with lots of hiking opportunities. Lots to do, we should have stayed for two weeks......we were sad to leave. I would thoroughly recommend the cottage to anyone, we loved it, and the owners are very kind too!Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We were extremely pleased with our stay at this beautiful home. The pictures do not do it justice! There was something for everyone! The location was perfect.... a gated mountain community with winding gravel roads. We enjoyed evening rides in the golf cart while saying hello to the wildlife! The waterfall was lovely. The kayak was a great way to explore the lake. The swimming area was private. The home was within easy driving distance to Chimney Rock and Lake Lure. We enjoyed zip lining, tubing, hiking, swimming, exploring, shopping, eating, relaxing and more!! No need to look any further!!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

We enjoyed our week but had a big issue with getting stuck in the driveway. It is very steep and crushed rock and my rear wheel drive car did not like it! The fridge had to be kept on "coldest" or things got too warm in the fridge. I wish I had read a bit more closely and realized there was no cable and no internet at this property which was like the end of the world for a 17 and 19 year old. The house is nice and clean and it is accurate in it's VRBO description. It is a nice quiet location and very close to the little town of Chimney Rock. We saw tons of wildlife everyday, from rabbits to squirrel to lots of deer.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children.
Owner response: In response to this review. Our listing photo clearly shows the grade of the driveway. All roads and driveways in this mountain area are typically gravel. This is the first issue we've had in 12 years with our 30 ft wide, 80 ft long gently sloping driveway. The golf cart and automobiles navigate it easily. Also, we've never had an issue with the refrigerator. We found that these guests had turned it's temperature down to the coldest setting, cold enough to freeze eggs. Lastly, we clearly advertise no cable or internet service.

Exceeded expectations- the home and yard areas were emaculately clean. Everything you would need for adults and children-stereo system, videos/DVDs, board games, even children's sized life-vests! Golf cart, grill, and laundry facilities added convienence. Most of all- we loved the large windows in the living space giving beautiful views of the woods, mountians, and lakes. Close drive to town with (resturaunts, parks, playgrounds) and Chimney Rock. We would love to stay again!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers, people with disabilities.
Owner response: Thank you for your kind words. We take great pride in keeping our home very clean and comfortable along with adding extra amenities most homes don't offer for their guests. I'm glad you were able to enjoy the views from the 2 large living room windows. They do make for a fantastic view of the surrounding mountains, lake and wildlife.

We were looking for an ideal getaway for our vacation spot this year. We wanted to escape the extreme heat and humidity of our city. We found what we were looking for, and more! The weather was PERFECT! Not only is the house immaculately kept, but it is in a gated community that gives an added sense of security and privacy. My wife, two children (17 and 10) and myself had a hard time leaving after only seven nights in this jewel of a home and surrounding areas. We could have stayed much, much longer. There is plenty of room for four people, and five can occupy the sleep space comfortably. The owners are more than gracious people who pay close attention to detail and ensure all the basic necessities are provided. Included is a golf cart that we used to get around the resort and a two person kayak that we enjoyed in the lake. The townspeople are all friendly and welcoming. There are good restaurants and plenty to keep the family busy while visiting. The golf at Apple Valley was full of great scenery as well. I highly recommend this rental property to anyone wishing to escape the rigors of daily life and take in the scenery and wildlife of western North Carolina. We WILL be back!!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, adventure seekers, people with disabilities.

My family of four stayed here for a week in August. Our kids are 10 and 15. The house is new and very clean. Its in a quiet location with easy access to Lake Lure. We loved driving the golf cart down to fish and swim in the private cove. The central location to so many things was really key to our visit. We went to the Biltmore Estate, hiked up Chimney Rock, fished in the lake and on the river, slid down Sliding Rock, and went shopping in a few of the little towns. The local restaurants are very good. We particularly enjoyed Larkins on the Lake and La Strada. And if you get over to Flat Rock, Hubba Hubba's BBQ is to DIE for!! The pictures in this listing are very accurate and the owners are great. I had plenty of questions and they were all answered quickly and thoroughly. We saw lots of wildlife, including many deer and turkey. One thing to know before you go is that there is no internet service at the house. I knew this ahead of time, but we missed that, particularly to check on things we wanted to do and the weather. We're just so used to using the internet. However, you can get free wifi access at a few locations nearby in Lake Lure and Chimney Rock so we were able to do that. And there is a basket at the house FULL of brochures with all sorts of info about the local area and activities. Great place! Would highly recommend it for a great getaway!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

We spent a wonderful vacation week in this home at Lake Lure. Being from California and this our first visit to North Carolina, we were not disappointed with the beauty of the area and friendly people we met. The house was very comfortable and extremely clean. It was nice to stay in a ranch style home with no steps, since we had my elderly Mother with us. We had spectacular views of the lake from the living room. There were plenty of things to see and do nearby. We enjoyed several afternoon picnics at the gazebos down by the lake. We saw deer, wild turkey and flying squirrels. The weather was absolutely perfect. We look forward to coming back again soon and would highly recommend this home to anyone.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

We stayed at this cottage for a Labor Day vacation with friends and had a wonderful time. It was great to wake up each morning with such a beautiful view. The towns of Lake Lure, Chimney Rock, and Bat Cave are all really neat to visit. We tubed down the Green River nearby, which was very affordable and also a great time! We had such a relaxing stay and would recommend anyone to rent this cottage. Plenty of room, well-maintained, and all the amenities you need...truly Home Away From Home!! We are already checking our calendars for another trip! And the owners were so helpful and kind.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
