Our family had a wonderful time, in spite of the winter weather in springtime. The home is beautiful and well kept - plenty of room for all 8 of us. We would highly recommend this vrbo rental, and plan on returning some time!

Our annual New Years Eve celebration could not have found a better place! The owner was friendly and easy to work with. The place is much nicer than the photos suggest. The living/dining/kitchen area is very open and great for group entertaining. The huge sectional couch provided many cozy naps and hours of book reading. The basement was kind of cold and tough to keep warm with the space heater provided, but not a huge deal. The lake was beautiful, we were able to take long walks out on the ice. All in all a very enjoyable winter vacation!

This cabin was great. I thought the owner's write up was FAR TOO modest for what this cabin turned out to be. It was everything advertised BUT also a lot more than the owner listed. There were more than enough sleeping rooms/surfaces for 18 people. It was very well maintained with a great stock of kitchen supplies available. Lots of entertaining area with a large open kitchen that looks into a living room and dining area. The fire pit is just feet from the water and it added to a relaxing night with friends.

We rented the cabin for our 79 year father and us siblings for his birthday. It was a quiet and cozy place with lot's of room and the main floor gathering areas all connect so it makes it a great way for people to converge in one area. The dogs loved it in the open space and room to roam without all the bushes to get tangled in. The owner was very responsive to questions we had before booking and called us shortly after we arrived to make sure everything was okay. I would recommend this place for any small or large group gathering or getaway.

We celebrated my father's 80th birthday with a few days at this cabin. The location was good and easy to get to. There was plenty of space for 19 adults and kids to sleep in the 5 bedrooms and large basement. The weather was great and the large deck and open floor plan provided plenty of space for everyone to hang out, eat, talk, and play games. We really enjoyed our time and it was priced right. Phil was easy to work with and kept in touch through the whole stay. The lake was relatively quiet but had a slimy green film. It worked well for the canoe and kayak but not for swimming. Lots of good biking roads and trails nearby as well. The place was great for the little kids and dogs in our group. On the down side, the cabin was little more run down than we were expecting. There were spider webs inside and outside the house especially on the light fixtures. The basement was musty when we arrived but aired out with a couple of fans circulating the air. It could use a little TLC to keep things clean and working well. One day during our stay a couple of workers showed up unannounced and tore off the front porch and replaced it. This was an inconvenience as the main floor bathroom has a window into the front porch with no blinds. Glad to see improvements being made but would have liked to at least be warned. Overall it was a good stay and we'd return. Everyone had a good time and my father enjoyed his birthday celebration.

My extended family got together for a week at the lake as we always do and had a great time at this cabin. We slept 21 people relatively comfortably, and spent lots of time on the lake. We visited the State park nearby which was fun for everyone to climb the 200' fire tower and the casino is close by. While there was no TV, who needs one when you are at the lake, or A/C we found it to be just fine. This place was just as listed and the price cannot be beat! Thanks for the stay!

My family of 8 adults and 5 kids (all under 6) stayed here for a week. We loved the lake, which had a sandy bottom and only got deep gradually. You came out with some green in your suit, so you washed up on one of the three lovely bathrooms provided. Also, my husband caught a lot of fish that we fried up for Friday night:) We had a hot night or two with no air conditioning, but the other nights were simply lovely with a view of the sunsets on the lake. The kitchen and main room were great for our large numbers, and while the basement was a little musty, it was a perfect place for the kids to run around (and cooler for sleeping). The deck was great, and the owner was helpful and available for all questions.

The updstairs is nicely done, with two bedrooms and then a large "closet" area for the master you could have kids sleep in, and the other 'bedroom' so to say really is just a room with a futon and a desk. Not really a bedroom. Downstairs is still old and incomplete. The 'green' bedroom has no bed. It's a pullout couch, and that's pretty much it. The 'blue" bedroom does have a queen bed, but when we got here, it wasn't even ready. So, although the description makes it seem like you have 5 bedrooms, you don't. You have two, maybe three, and then a pull out couch and a futon. Disappointed about that. The exterior is in disrepair. The deck is dangerous for kids. The railings are not code and any child could fall through them. By the way, no mention that there is NO TELEVISION. But, on the other hand, there is a good wireless connection. The walk down to the lake is fine. Don't be fooled by "200 feet of shorline" though. Much of it is unusable, and really what you have is about a 10 or 12 foot stretch by the dock for kids to play and walk into the lake. And the swing by the lake is just a lawsuit waiting to happen. The dock it's over is wobbly and could fall at any time. And the swing is just sketchy at best, and I'm not sure I'd even attempt to sit on it. If it were to fall, or someone slip off of the front, you'd fall off of the deck and into a hole and it wouldn't be pretty. It really should be taken down completely. This isn't really a complaint, but I guess I didn't notice that there was NO AIRCONDITIONING. And guess what, it's 90 and humid, and it's only going to get hotter. The upstairs is roasty toasty for sure. There is some relief in the basement, but it's gonna be a hot one. Anyway, just understand that it needs some work, the rooms really are not bedroom ready, and there will need to be some improvising.

Owner response: I appreciate the candid review and feedback. The railing has been re-enforced to meet code, and bring the spaces between rails from 7 inches to 3 inches. The cute but rickety swing by the lake has been taken down. There are five bedrooms: three have queen sized beds, one double sized futon, and one double sized sleeper couch. The cabin was built in the 1960s and has had several renovations. I had the whole first floor redone with new bathrooms, vaulted ceiling, kitchen, gas fireplace etc. The walkout basement has had modest improvements and is rough in comparison to the first floor. Roughly half of the 200 feet shoreline is natural. The beach area expands and contracts with the level of the lake. Cross Lake is fed by the Snake River. If there is rain in the area or up through flowage area east of Lake Mille Lacs the lake level rises, and some of the beach area recedes. It has a gradual sloped sandy bottom great for kids and swimming. If the water level is high it extends over the sand and onto the grass. Air conditioning is needed a few days out of the year. Unfortunately this guest was there during the over 90 degree days and found it uncomfortable. Normally the breezes off the lake, and ceiling fans in rooms keep it cool enough.

Fishing & swimming! View on map

Great fishing off the dock. Drops off to 25' deep 50' out. Bass and pan fish toward shore, and walleye in the deep. Great swimming along the extended sandy beach and shallow water.

                          Owner info

                          Year Purchased: 2006

About the owner: I'm a 50+ self employed Information Technology professional working in the Twin Cities. I love to swim, canoe, kayak, run, bike and other out door activities. I have three grown children. My 100 # yellow lab (Sam) and I have enjoyed the cabin for a few years but have been using it less and less and decided to rent it since we are not always there. Sam loves to retrieve any thing thrown off the dock.

Why the Owner Chose North Branch:
We bought this cabin because of the water front, and located on the Cross Lake, Snake River, Pokegama water system. There are lots of activities nearby or just snuggle by the gas fireplace with a good book.

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Lots of space. Open dining, living, kitchen area affords great mingling of a large family gathering. Lots to do for kids or adults. The master bedroom suite with it's own closet and bathroom provides intimacy even when there's a crowd in the house. An expansive deck extends the openness to outside during the spring-fall seasons. Cool breezes off the lake keep it refreshing even in the hottest summer days.
