Our stay at LaBrias was wonderful. We wanted to be on a marsh location, so we could enjoy the tidal flow, and we became mesmerized, waiting for the incoming water and the change in scenes! The house is furnished by a family who knows what is required in a household. We stayed for three weeks, so were really happy to have everything so nicely provided. The layout is great. Floor to ceiling windows in every room make you feel like you are living in the trees. And the fourth floor deck....we will never forget the evening of the full moon rising over the Atlantic and the sun setting behind us over the marsh. Being less than ten minutes away, and the comp pass, to Hunting Island State Park is the icing on the cake. Hunting Island is probably the most amazing island beach along the east coast...and we've been to bunch of them!!!! The Lighthouse and nature programs are great. When we were there in March/April, there were days we would go to the beach and hardly see another soul. Walk, walk and walk. Also found ourselves heading in to Beaufort, Savannah and other interesting areas. Lots of fun places to eat and the waterfront park in Beaufort is the perfect place to 'swing' away a sunny afternoon. There is a fabulous children's park there too. Look no further, if you are looking for a place that is not in the mainstream or part of a gated-community!!!Recommended for: Families with young children, pet owners, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.
Owner response: We are delighted you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you back very soon, Hildegard. We, too, enjoy the quiet winter/early spring months when the beaches are practically deserted, the restaurants and nearby sightseeing are not crowded and the winter crowd more mellow. Our very best to you and your family. Sincerely, Debra and Michael

This rental was just right for us. Private, lovely setting, and close to Hunting Island where we spent time hiking and bird watching. The house was clean and fresh. Recently updated. Well equipped. And, I loved sunning up on the widow's walk. The owners were wonderful to work with. We had a great dinner out at the Wren in Beaufort. Great week!Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway.
Owner response: Hi, Jim. So glad to hear that all went well during your week's stay. Stay in touch and hope to see you back soon. Best, Debra and Michael

Sorry my earlier review didn't post! We had a great time and very good communication with owner! Loved the house and scenery. We travel to St Helena often and this house was a very quiet, relaxing, family friendly place. Any questions we had were answered quickly by the owner. The Hunting Island park pass was especially appreciated!! Beautiful area and home with everything we needed, Thanks again for a great time!!Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway.
Owner response: So nice to hear from you, Lori. Hope to see you back very soon. Best, Debra and Michael

If you want to get away from it all then this is your place. The house is well appointed and had everything you need for a relaxing stay. My boys and I particularly enjoyed the three levels of decks! The lower deck is screened and just off the kitchen and lets you eat dinner and breakfast outside with the minimum of fuss involved with the normal going to and from the kitchen. The top deck is a wonder. Accessed by a 'secret staircase' from the upper bedroom, the views are spectacular. Although the house is secluded and peaceful your are not way out in the sticks. Beaufort is a short drive away and there are good local restaurants should you choose to eat out. For those who can't leave the tech world behind them, the wifi and satellite TV work well. I highly recommend Las Brisas.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks for your kind message, Phil, and so glad you and your boys enjoyed your stay. We are delighted you plan on returning soon. Cheers! Debra and Michael

I hate to be the lone voice of dissension here but we were pretty disappointed in this rental. The owner is not particularly easy to work with (whatever you do, don't attempt to book last minute here) and the house is sub-par. We arrived to broken blinds (and some windows missing coverings entirely), large black scuffs on the floor, a gouge in the kitchen counter top, ragged living room furniture (an armchair looked as if it had been used as a dog chew toy), old decks and broken glass sprinkled about the yard. These things were mildly disappointing (as was the musty and unclean smelling comforter on the master bed) but the real kicker was the fact that upon showering the morning after arrival, I was distressed to find long, curly, black hairs embedded in the two towels I used. I am a blonde. When I notified the owner of the issues, I was informed that the wear and tear on the house was standard and that we should "use other towels" and place the unclean ones on the floor in the guest room. No apology and no offer to have a housekeeper come and take the linens for washing. Would have washed them myself, but the washer and dryer were both broken (we were informed of this little tidbit after paying in full for the rental). We gave this home the two stars due to the relative proximity to the beach and the nice view of the marsh from the kitchen windows. For the price though, this place really should be much nicer. All in all, a fairly poor showing and we would not recommend this house to anyone traveling to the Beaufort area. There are MUCH nicer rentals out there!Owner response: Happy New Year, Faith! I appreciate your candidness about your stay at our home, and as I responded to you before, we intend to address all the issues you brought to our attention when we arrive there in the next few weeks. It is helpful for us to know exactly what concerns our guests have about the house as we like to keep it comfortable and safe. We did reduce the regular daily rate for your stay to cover your not being able to use the washing machine and was hoping that it would not be a concern in your short 5-day stay. I was surprised to hear that I was not responsive to your short-notice request for the stay as I stayed in touch as best as possible. I also responded about the comforter and towels, and to address that issue, I suggested you use other available linen. We do not provide housekeeping during the stay of our guests but will make sure all is cleaned and fresh for our next guests. As for the other issues you mentioned, this is the first we heard about glass in the yard. I will let our gardener know about that as he has been very good about keeping the yard tidy year round. Due to normal wear and tear, some furniture pieces and appliances (including the washer/dryer that recently had problems) will be replaced in the next few weeks. Sorry you were disappointed with our home and hope you find something more suitable to your needs on your next vacation. Sincerely, Debra and Michael

Las Brisas certainly is an apt name for this house. Can't think of many things more relaxing than sipping or reading on one of the two screened porches while the breezes waft though. For stargazing and nature watching, the open observation deck is ideal. And, being at the end of the road, the place was totally quiet except for the sounds of nature, but restaurants and shopping are not far away. The house was well equipped and maintained with "all the comforts of home", including WiFi, which is almost becoming a necessity.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, girls getaway.

This was the perfect spot for my family vacation. We were able to take a short walk to a beach area which we had to ourselves for much of the time, except for the daily visit of the horses on a trail ride. The house is convienent to restaurants and shopping. The best feature of the house is the viewing deck on top. It was an awesome place to go anytime of the day. From watching the sunrise, lying out in the day, and stargazing at night. We will definitely visit again! Thanks Debra!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks so much, Sarah. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay. Hope to see you back soon! Enjoy the rest of your summer. Best, Debra and Michael

About the owner: We love our home in South Carolina! Having family nearby, we share meals and good times together. We live in San Franciso, also a beautiful place, but when we go to our So. Carolina home, we simply feel the stress of the everyday life melt away no matter what time of year. We have spent all the seasons and all are equally beautiful. We love beachcombing, meeting and sharing a meal with our neighbors and lazing on the decks with a good book in the heat of the day. Family members visit and we take in the local catch of the day - the shrimp, clams, oysters and crab that our brother-in-law catches himself! We want you to enjoy our home as much as we do.
Why the Owner Chose St. Helena Island:
My husband is from So. Carolina and all his family is nearby. We knew we needed to have our own home to share with family and friends. We were fortunate to find this special place that brings such joy.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We love the food, beaches, shopping, neighbors and quiet that makes us feel rejuvenated at the end of a stay.
