We really liked the place and would probably consider renting again. Had some confusion about the need to clean on our way out despite having paid a cleaning fee so wasted more time than necessary getting it back to as clean as we'd found it on arrival. Some beds were less than comfy but the place had a nice layout and certainly served our purposes, nice base rental rate (off season) compared to others in the area.Recommended for: Pet owners, families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: Sarah, Thanks for letting me know the need to clarify the departure instructions for guests booking through this site. I can see how that may have been confusing to your group. I have been considering memory foam mattress pads, so maybe that will help with the comfort of the beds.

I can imagine the Beagle is a much nicer place to stay in the summer, with its large deck and barbecue, but we enjoyed the large open living area with big windows and a spacious view. The fireplace was especially nice with the stormy winter weather outiside and a good stock of wood out back. It was also nice to have a fenced backyard for the dog, though it's mostly overgrown and he didn't take to it too well. Although you cannot see the beach a couple blocks away, the walk there is quick. The town's shops are also close. We were really impressed with the nearby market and the larger grocery up the street, amply stocked and well organized, with organic choices and everything we would normally buy at home. One slight issue with the Beagle was a lack of attention to details, such as a hodge-podge of expired foodstuffs in the pantry and refrigerator, a mess of silverware, no large serving bowls, light out in the refrigerator, lamp over the bed not working, dysfunctional tape player, no clear instructions for the audio equipment, and dangerously slippery steps. Still, we made do with the supplies in the kitchen and elsewhere better than in some places. We loved the place and recommend it!Recommended for: Pet owners, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, tourists without a car.
Owner response: Terry, thanks for the review of your stay. I am glad that you enjoyed your stay in Manzanita & at the Beagle. I have been working on the issues that you noted here and on our guest comment sheet. Since your stay the lamps have been replaced, outside stairs now have traction strips, and left behind food items removed. Even though I still have some items on my shopping/to do list, I appreciate you taking the time to let me know what could be done to improve the home for future guests, and hope to see you back when you can enjoy the great deck space.
