Welcome to the Heidi Haus, your Upper Peninsula getaway with a beautiful beach on Lake Michigan. The property is about 20 minutes north of Marinette, WI and Menominee, MI on the Bay of Green Bay. The house is located on a wooded lot with a grassy yard leading out level to the sand beach.
This is the best sand beach between Menominee and Escanaba! Not mucky and you cannot hear the state highway as the property is set back away from the road. The water is shallow at the beach so it is perfect for children. You can sit on the beach or look out the cabin windows and see boats on the Bay and the islands of Door County in the distance. You can bring your kayak or small sailboat and sail around the bay in front of the house. Wildlife abounds...it is common to see deer, and many different kinds of birds including pileated woodpeckers and bald eagles. The hummingbirds have arrived for the summer! Sit on the deck and they will buzz over and drink nectar and see what you are doing.
We call this a cabin but it is a real 4 season house with a large living and kitchen area and an open loft upstairs. The kitchen includes everything for cooking and baking--a microwave, stove, full-size refrigerator, pots & pans, small appliances, dishes, wine glasses, utensils, spices and some cooking basics such as flour and sugar. There is a charcoal grill outside with a charcoal starter. A full size washer and dryer are in the laundry room on the main level. In the living room is a TV with a DVD player and a collection of DVDs. There is a record player, AM/FM, CD, cassette radio and records. A National Geographic collection spanning almost 100 years and other books and magazines are in the bookshelves. An antique sheet music cabinet has games and puzzles.
The Sunrise Bedroom, on the main level, features a queen size log bed. Wake up and watch the sun rise over the Bay! Up a spiral staircase is the Loft Bedroom that runs the length of the cabin. There are two full size beds in the loft. Downstairs in the living room is a full size futon. There are multiple dressers and closets to store clothing.
The house has one bathroom with a shower. Facing the beach, off the living room, is a deck with a swing, small tables and chairs. There are folding beach chairs you can take down to the water. Off of the main living area is a fully enclosed screened porch with comfortable seating and outdoor dining furniture.
Weekly rental includes all linens including beach towels. Cleaning fee is included but we have a checklist for guests to go over before handing back the keys.
Take a walk down the lane or walk the beach and listen to the waves. There are many waterfalls, parks and other sites to discover nearby. Trout fishing is popular in Cedar River and walleye, smallmouth bass, perch, northern, salmon and brown trout are in the Bay. Boat launch and marina are in Cedar River, 5 minutes away. Restaurants are in Cedar River and Marinette/Menominee. Supermarkets and other shopping is in Marinette/Menominee. Come experience the tranquility and beauty of Michigan at the Heidi Haus!

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2011
About the owner: Our family enjoys the Heidi Haus in winter time and part of the summer and we rent it out when we are not using it.
Why the Owner Chose Menominee:
The Heidi Haus looks like it belongs in the clearing. The property is set back off of M-35 so you do not have the highway zipping past your vacation spot. At night you hear the waves lapping the shore. The beach at Heidi Haus is very sandy; you can walk from one point of the small bay to the other on sand.
There are many waterfalls, parks and other sites to discover in the Upper Peninsula. Heidi Haus is situated a few minutes from a county park with a playground and a few minutes from a state park that has hiking trails.
Fishing is popular in this area - In the Bay are walleye, smallmouth bass, perch, northern, salmon and brown trout. The Cedar River is about 5 miles north and is stocked with trout. Restaurants and gas stations are in Cedar River and Marinette/Menominee. Supermarkets and other shopping is in Marinette/Menominee.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The Heidi Haus is a tidy, robust cabin which was built by a local architect in Menominee, Michigan. He planned the house for the lot and one can see the Bay from all the main living spaces of the house. There is natural light due to the large windows in the living room and the Sunrise Bedroom. Two skylights bring in more light and keep the loft from being in the shadows. Inside there is redwood paneling and solid oak flooring and trim. Outside the house is sided in redwood siding which has weathered to a natural dark brownish gray color. The design of the Heidi Haus works well with modern or antique furnishings. We have a mix of styles which makes it quite comfortable and charming. Wildlife is very plentiful at the Heidi Haus however please note, HUNTING IS NOT ALLOWED.
