Gorgeous light, 11 windows and 5 sklights throughout the loft. 2 back bedrooms with arched bay window doors. Washer/dryer, refrigerator, microwave, hot plate, high speed internet, wifi access. This loft is an old historic building from 1897, when it was a paper factory and is a 6 floor walk up. Sorry no elevator but its part of the unique charm and testament to what the area once was. Walking distance to Hudson River Park, with volleyball, mini golf, and waterfront. Close to all major subway lines and walking distance to the new 9/11 Memorial, Freedom Towers site. Many great restaurants and cafes in the neighborhood and home to the Tribeca Film Festival, also walking distance. And close to all subways to travel to museums, zoo, and other parts of manhattan.

If you have ever had an ounce of curiosity about the what it is like to live in a NYC artists loft (as many of us do) wonder no more. This humble and friendly loft is authentic, in every meaning of the phrase. The space is abundant and welcoming with pinned up momentos covering large spaces on the white brick wall. Momentos include little bits of inspiration from a restaurant or gallery here and there, to original prints, to significant news paper articles, to photos that many have deemed famous. If the open space and disco ball doesn't inspire you, taking a look around at all of the love and history this place has seen definitely will. All of the appliances work like a charm. We were there in the heat of summer and were able to stay comfortable with the window air conditioning unit. It is probably one of the few spaces available to rent in the city that actually has an abundance of, space. We stayed here in the process of moving and were able to keep a ton of suitcases around without even noticing they were there. Great location downtown close to the metro and west side highway! Tons of fun places to go/see/eat nearby. Makes for a perfect hub location. If you are concerned about over eating during your stay in New York, this is also an excellent option for you. This lofted apartment is 6 floors up, no elevator. Perfect if you feel guilt for eating that tempting piece of chocolate cake after dinner. Overall - great place, wonderful hosts, fabulously authentic. I definitely recommend giving the artist loft life a go!

Elegant and Inspiring Loft in Tribeca
Elegant and Inspiring Loft in Tribeca
If you are the sort of person who has nightmares without a chocolate artfully melting on your pillow every night before bed, who feels stuck in life without the latest model turbocharged toilet seat and who cannot catch their breath without an “air freshener” squirting some nauseating stench into the room every 30 seconds, then this place is not for you. This, my fellow VRBO dwellers, is the Real, Raw New York Deal without the touches of banality one finds in many hotels and even some Manhattan VRBO rentals. This is a pure, uncorrupted working artist’s loft in the middle of the vibrant Tribeca District with its fascinating array of restaurants, chic boutiques and cobble-stone streets with noble, historic buildings. The loft is a reflection of the mind and work of the owner who is a preeminent photographer. He and his charming wife generously share with their guests a dazzling collection of their own and other masters’ photographs. The place literally swarms with portraits of many of the leading cultural figures of the last 100 years. These images are so alive it would hardly be a surprise if several of them walked right out of the wall, sat down on the couch and engaged you in a stimulating conversation. The other thing the loft offers is acres of precious, uncluttered space. This, too, reflects the creative processes of the visual artist. PURE SPACE is the virgin canvas where first crystallize the images eventually pulled from the photographer’s black box, from this magical device which stops time and captures life. In a city teeming with eight million peoples’ hopes, fears and desires the Luxury of Luxuries is SPACE into which one can open up and draw a little closer to what one set out to do in the first place. This loft is an inspiring, essential and elegant venue for anyone who visits New York to actively partake of her Creative Mind.

The apartment was spacious and comfortable. The owner gave us a comprehensive list of local amenities and maps and took time show us around the apartment. However, the loft could have been cleaner and we were without gas for the first three days of our stay and even then the gas stove remained disconnected for the duration of our stay. The shower was not working properly and it would have been good to have had a bath that held water!!! We were aware at the time of booking that there was a six storey climb to the loft. Tribeca is very well located for local restaurants and the subway is close by.

Owner response: Dear Amanda, I understand some of the issues you raised. But I do feel our home was clean, you had extra clean linens, towels etc. And we were very open to communication with you previous your stay and during. I wish you would have had the courtesy and respect we had for you and your sisters, and contacted during your stay about your objections. We would have been more than willing to help whatever problems you had and tried to work them out with you. Instead you wrote a negative response, and a two star rating which I think is unfair. Also, from my listing you were aware that it was a 6 floor walk up and there was no oven, it was never listed as an amenity. I wish we could have communicated about this issue during your stay in NYC. We had told you to call us anytime if you needed anything or had any issues, and we never heard from you. We would have been open and happy to help and am hurt that you did not communicate any of this to us while you were staying.

The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
The city has so many wonderful things to offer for all types of people. We love the fact that it is so easy to walk to different neighborhoods from where we live. We love to walk and experience the city from that way, but if not possible we do take the subway uptown for museums and shows. I think the city speaks for itself. It's very vibrant and has some of the best food and art to offer.
