Did not meet our expectations.
Did not meet our expectations.
We stayed at the apartment/ home in July 2013. We were looking for accommodation outside the city centre and hopefully in more of an Italian neighborhood where we could experience a more local way of life. Also, we needed a place where we could park our car for our time in Rome - not an easy thing find! The owner, Riccardo, was very helpful and offered his parking spot with the rental of the apartment. The apartment is lived in by the owner, his wife and 2 children. They rent the apartment when they go away for the summer. It is located just north of the Vatican, and it is about a 15 min. walk to the Vatican. There is no public transit to the apartment and the nearest metro station is about a 10 -15 min. walk. We were met at the apartment by the owners father-in-law who showed us where to park our car. We had a bit of an issue as the day we arrived, they had blocked off the street to the apartment to do some road work. He does not speak much English, but as I speak Italian, we were fine. I do not like to write poor reviews, but the apartment was a disappointment to us. It was quite old and did not have any updating. The furniture was well-worn and had many stains. We are very clean and particular people and this apartment was not very clean and did not meet our standards. The kitchen was very dated and the plates, cutlery, and pots and pans were very grimy and old. The cook top was difficult to light and there was no microwave or kettle There was a dishwasher. There were no cooking staples in the kitchen - not even salt/pepper or oil. The bathroom did not appear to have been cleaned or at least hastily done so, before the owners left. There were stains and hair in tub/shower as well as soap/shampoo residue on the ledge. It is a spacious apartment and it is bright. The outside eating area would have been nice if it had been clean. The air-conditioning did work well. The neighbourhood is not the nicest area of Rome but it was quiet. There is a grocery store at the end of the block and the Gelateria just down the street from the apartment has the best gelato ever - and 2 scoops for 2E!! Unfortunately, we would not recommend this apartment, nor would we rent this apartment again. We paid a 40E cleaning fee, hopefully any renters after us benefited from that. We appreciated that the owner did allow us to park our car and they seemed like very nice people. We are sorry we had to write such a poor review.

Owner response: We are very sorry for this review that seems very severe and unjust. We had ourselves thoroughly clean the entire house before leaving for the holidays and then we had a person come to clean the day before the 'arrival of the guests. This is actually an old house is from 1900, but it is in a great location and equipped with every comfort and all our guests find this item quaint and delightful, just like the people who know us, also the laundry is renewed before each rental. When I returned to Rome and asked the guests how it was they told me that everything was to their liking, so much so that I have naively asked them to write a review .. And here .. These are the surprises that you may encounter when you decide to rent your own apartment even if you put all the effort possible to make guests feel good, struggling not just for this. If you want to find a 5 star hotel ourselves do not recommend you come to our house, which is not sterilized as a clinic or flashy as a showroom, but this review hurts us especially for the severity of judgments.
Perfect home away from home in Rome
Perfect home away from home in Rome
Just returned from a 3 week trip to Europe, and look back very fondly on our 3 day stay in Rome. This apartment suited our needs perfectly. There was a comfy king-sized bed in the master (with plenty of closet space and a TV); in the small second bedroom, suited best for 2 kids or one adult, a full-sized bed against the wall (no closet space but also a TV!) as well as a brand new cot for my son in the living room. Since the two girls found the 2nd bedroom a bit tight, one of them ended up sleeping on the couch in the living room, which worked out fine. In addition to a full kitchen and living/dining room, there was a wonderful outdoor terrace, where we took all our meals and availed ourselves of the clothes washer there, hanging things to dry in the Roman heat. [One word of caution: we blew the breaker one evening by turning on the washer and the A/C at the same time, and were pitched into darkness, but once you know not to overload the system, that should be avoidable.] I would suggest running a washer load as you leave the apartment to go explore (with the A/C off), then return to hang clothes and turn the A/C on for nighttime comfort, if you even need it. Note: the A/C units are affixed to the wall near the ceiling, ie not window units, and are found in the master bedroom, dining/living area, and kitchen, but not the second bedroom; though Rome was having an unprecedented heat wave during our stay, this was not a huge issue, as the windows are large and screened and the evenings do cool down a bit and allow a cross-breeze to freshen the air. There was a Living room TV and CDs/DVDs were available, but we had no time for such! There was wireless access with help of a passcode. A lot of walking was done (it is Rome after all) but since this apartment is in a quiet residential neighborhood, the increased walking distances paid off with quieter surroundings. The bathtub, narrow and deep, with hand shower to wash hair, was the only tub we had over the 3 week time away from home, something I didn't fully appreciate at the time! Finally, I cannot say enough about the owners of this apartment themselves. They were available to us in times of need (breaker blowing, losing directions to their place, needing to find car rental office) and though we tried not to impose, it was reassuring to know that they and their extended family was very nearby (next door!) to assist if needed. We would recommend this apartment to any travelers who like to live like the locals!

Wonderful Trip in a great place
Wonderful Trip in a great place
We just returned from a 2-week visit to Rome, which was absolutely wonderful. Renting an apartment made our stay very flexible and care-free (no stringent tour schedule to follow). The whole experience has been very satisfying, and this very spacious and bright apartment met all of our expectations: it has a lot of European character, is well furnished, offers plenty of room for relaxation after a long day of walking, and the large covered terrace is a great for eating outside while being sheltered from the sun. It is, however, the people that make a difference! The owners were very nice and helpful, and allowed us to experience the city not only as simple tourists, but also as locals would. A big thank you to all of them! The neighbourhood is fairly quiet, and allows for a good night sleep. It requires, however, daily walking to the bus stop of the subway (Cipro stop at about 15 min. walk). Once you are on the bus or the metro, the city is yours to explore! Walking distance: Mercato Trionfale, a covered market on Via Doria for fresh produce, meat, cheese, eggs, spices, wine, and any household needs (prices are excellent). The Vatican City (Papal museums, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter Square and Basilica) are also a nice walk away. Last but not least: an excellent gelateria (Angolo del Gelato) is only 2 minutes away on Via Trionfale, and a daily dose of their wonderful flavours is a must!!!!
