Franklin is known for an abundance of Ruby mines where you can try your luck at finding the 'big' one. The Smoky Mountain Center for the Performing Arts is only about 3 miles away and features some great acts. Just next door to it is The Fun Factory with lots of games, go-carts and other amusements for children and adults. The downtown area is small but has some great shops including one that features crafts made in NC. There are beautiful mountains, waterfalls and scenic drives. A 40 minute drive will also bring you to a ride on the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad. A drive of about the same time will bring you to the reservation for the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians. Here you can see a wonderful outdoor drama about the infamous Trail of Tears called 'Unto These Hills'. The Oconaluftee Indian Village is also in Cherokee and shows much about their history and crafts.
Year Purchased: 2008
About the owner: I grew up in Franklin and still have lots of family in the area. My husband and I come often and sometimes bring our traveling cats with us.
Why the Owner Chose Franklin: The property sits on 4 1/2 acres of land inherited from my grandparents whose home is just next door. My childhood home is the neighbor down the road - see VRBO property #582823. My brother built the house here and lived in it until 2011.
