  My husband and I are from Northern VA, and needed some quiet, R&R...Rose Cottage delivered. Upon arrival we were greeted by the view of the sound and the beautiful backyard. The cathedral ceilings in the living-room, wall-to-wall bookcases, and leather furniture created a warm, relaxing atmosphere. The master bedroom, on the second floor, is like a secret hideaway, with a built in hot tub. My husband and I enjoyed laying in the pool and kayaking along the sound. We plan on making Rose Cottage one of our frequent vacation locations.

  Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners, families with young children.

  The views are outstanding. We used the kayak and paddled up and down the beautiful coast line -it was so peaceful! The pool was great and the dog loved the sound. The house is cool! It's got a lot of character and a really comfortable bed in the master. The beach was close but there really wasn't any reason to leave the house. We'll be back!

  Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.

  We just got home from our trip to Rose Cottage. It was wonderful! Your home is so well decorated and comfortable. We enjoyed every minute! The furniture you and your wife have chosen might have been the best part of my trip! Thanks for sharing your home.

  Filled out review for Elan - will not be staying here again. House was filthy and we spent majority of our time cleaning when we got there. The bedroom with the double bed stunk so bad of urine it was unusable even for storage. Vacuum was so filthy and stunk couldn't use it to clean - even the cleaning people warned us about it upon arrival. There was no crib as promised - had to rent one - see that the website has been updated since our complaint. Thankfully, we brought LED candles to use as nightlights. Enjoyed our time at Morris Market, Beach Bums and shopping on the OBX. Awful Arthur's was fantastic. That about sums it up.

  Owner response: We were very sorry to hear that our guest had a bad experience at Rose Cottage. When the guest voiced concern about the cleaning we immediately sent a professional cleaning crew to the house to go room by room with the guest and ensure their satisfaction. The cleaners did not leave until the guest was satisfied. Neither the guest nor the cleaning crew mentioned a problem with urine in any of the rooms. Our VRBO site does list crib (default tic box on VRBO site) but did not define pack n play. When the guest was not satisfied with the pack n play we paid for a crib rental for the guest. We did update the VRBO site to call out pack n play for future guests. We love OBX and Rose Cottage and want each guest to have the type of experience reflected in the other reviews listed on this page.

  from guest book....."What a wonderful vacation! The House was absolutely beautiful, the pool was wonderful, even with the huge storms that blew through! My girls loved the play areas and the 3 year old loved the sand box! We also enjoyed several of the restaurant suggestions from your book.......Thank you Ken and Melissa for renting your beautiful home for the summer. This was our first trip to the OBX, but not our last!"

  "What a paradise! What a treasure! This beautiful home has something for everyone..the generous owners have thought of every imaginable convenience. This charming and spacious home feels remote but is in actuality convenient to all the wonderful attractions that OBX has to offer. We have had a wonderful time this week, and we can't thank you enough! We definitely hope to return in 2012!"

  From the guest book..."We had a fantastic vacation this week! The kids enjoyed catching and eating fresh crabs! Although a little cool, the pool was great! The house is beautiful, comfortable and well equipped. We enjoyed the fire pit.....I would recommend this vacation home to anyone!"

  "What a wonderful week it's been for us. Our three little girls and our golden retriever loved all the room to play-what a family friendly place to stay in every way! We appreciated all that you made available to us-beach chairs, games, the thoughtful welcome baskets, bowls for our dog and even nightlights for the kids room....the list goes on. This is easily the the most homey house we've ever rented and we loved all the character of the home. Thanks for the everything!"

  From the guest book..."When we vacation at the beach, we always strive for an oceanfront location. Not Anymore! We have never enjoyed ourselves as much as we have this week! The house could not have been more perfect, weather was perfect, fishing, boating and the beach followed the same! We look forward to visiting again. Please don't change a thing!."
