In 1889 logging pioneer John McReavy came to Union City on Hood Canals south shore alongside the Native American communities of the Skokomish Indians that had gathered where Hood Canal makes its great bend and the Skokomish River makes it’s run off into Hood Canal where Salmon every year spawn up the Skokomish River.

Across from Union, President Franklin D. Roosevelt selected the Olympic National Park in 1938. The mountains to the west of Union that create scenic views across Hood Canal are Mt. Washington, Mt. Constance, and the Brothers.
Mt. Ellinor is one of the southern-most peaks in the Olympics, and is Mt. Washington's closest neighbor. A surveyor by the name of George Davidson named the mountain after his boss' youngest daughter. (Davidson also named 'The Brothers' after her two brothers, and Mt. Constance after Ellinor's oldest sister.) On a reasonably clear day, and day hike, Ellinor can offer a variety of incredible views of all the major Cascade peaks, as well as close-range views of neighboring Mt. Washington, Stone, Pershing, and a glimpse of Mt. Olympus in the distance.

The generation following McReavy drew creative inspiration from the remarkable landscape, and circulated around the Olympus Manor, an artist colony that prospered until 1952 when the Manor itself burned down. As a result, Union holds the title of the first non-native artist colony in Washington State.
Current attractions include working farms, roadside markets, and a variety of world-class golf courses, marina and public boat launch. At the Alderbrook Resort, a four-star spa offers a refine way to relax, rejuvenate and only a short drive from the Enchantment Retreat.

Hood Canal is the only true saltwater fjord in the lower United States. Its clear deep waters provide world-class shrimp and salmon fishing, scuba diving, and miles of pristine shoreline for boaters, kayakers, beachcombers and lovers of nature. Scenic drives alone Hood Canal can find oneself in small towns with arts and crafts along with antiques. Today, visitors come for summers of sunshine and shellfish, and the annual return of the salmon. There is always something in the year round along Hood Canal as the contemplation of winter, to watch the herons out on the docks, motionless water at high tide.

Keywords: Located on Enchantment Ridge with stunning views overlooking the south shore of Hood Canal, the Olympic Mountains, and the Skokomish Valley. This beautiful 2-bedroom, 1-bath, accommodates a party of 4 very comfortably. This property is within a gated property with professional landscapes, fully equipped gourmet kitchen with its very owen fresh herb garden. This property is within minutes of hiking in the Olympic National Park, boating on Hood Canal with marina very close by, beach activities either clamming, oystering or take a swim in the warm waters of Hood Canal after the tide rolls in a number of State Parks close by, not to mention all kinds of water activities up in the Lake Cushman area of Hoodsport. In 2009, Union’s recently named as one of the top 20 prettiest towns in America by Forbes Traveler magazine and it is no wander that one of the richest men in the world calls Union home in the summer.

The Enchantment Retreat is an absolute jewel! We stayed at this vacation rental for 5 days while looking at property in the area, and had a wonderful time. Getting up in the morning with the most incredible view of the mountains and Hood Canal, enjoying afternoon drinks on the porch after a busy day, the quiet nights and cosy atmosphere: everything about this place is special. Rob and Moana have truly thought of every detail, and their hospitality makes you feel right at home. Thank you for the wonderful memories we got to take back with us to our home in Europe. Hope to be back for another visit soon!

Owner response: Dear Rob and Petra, Thank you for your gracious review of the Enchantment Retreat. We are more than thrilled you were able to relax on the deck with the nice weather to unwind during the business you had to accomplish. We enjoyed hearing about your adventures in Europe and would love to hear more if it is on a canal in Amsterdam or running into the two of you on a trail in the Olympic Mountains. We are thrilled that the property worked out to your advantage while you did your business during the day and were able to unwind on the deck enjoying the views. We look forward to the day when you may become neighbors or you are back in the States again for vacation and we get to see the two of you back in the area in the near future. Until then, good luck and Cheers, Rob and Moana

Beautiful spot! Loved the weekend I was able to spend here. The house is very clean and comfortable and the view is unbeatable. Great area to explore the mountains and local offerings of WA. Definitely recommend staying here if you're looking for a relaxing escape!

Owner response: Thank you Eric and Kelly for staying with us and we a certainly glad you were able to find the oyster beach for some delightful dinners on the deck. I am happy to hear you had some very well deserved nights of peace and quiet. We would love to see the two of you again if time permits and thank you for being the perfect quest. Until then Cheers, Rob and Moana

The Enchantment Retreat truly lives up to its name. The cabin was beautiful, and designed for relaxation, though it had a pretty serious modern kitchen, which we also appreciated, since we love cooking for ourselves. We loved all the little places to sit and relax. The view was stunning and some of our best memories will be from sitting on the deck, listening to birds and being lulled into a dreamy state by the pretty wind chimes as we took in the scenery. This a special secluded place that we are grateful to have experienced, and we'll be sure to return when we can.

Owner response: Thank you for the beautiful review. Both Moana and I enjoyed having yourself and your husband visit this part of the Northwest for a few days even though you are only a couple of hours away and have been out in this area on several occasions. As you maybe aware a beautiful time of year to visit is 4-6 weeks prior to your arrival. The scenery is vivid in color buy the Rhododendrons, Azaleas, as well as the Lilacs. We feel fortunate that we met a delightful couple and hope to see both of you again in the very near future as fall is another beautiful time to visit with variations of colors on the hillsides. Regards, Rob and Moana

This is a fantastic, beautiful house, I highly recommend it! If you want to get away from it all, this is the place to go: the views of the mountains and Hood Canal are amazing, it’s quiet, the owners (Rob and Moana) friendly and helpful, they gave us good tips on things to do and places to see. My wife and I spent 4 days here in March 2012, and had a really wonderful time (we live in New Orleans and wanted to experience something very different). The Union, WA area is great for hiking, fishing and seeing nature, not to mention the incredible food (fresh fish, clams, oysters, scallops). We used the house as a base and then took day trips around the area, it was really convenient. The house itself is modern, spacious and very clean. My favorite memory from the trip: sitting on the porch and relaxing while enjoying that spectacular view and letting all my worries slip away…it really is the perfect place to relax and experience the best the Northwest has to offer.

Owner response: Thank you for being guests at our Retreat and enjoying the beauty of this part of the world. We are happy you were able to take scenic trips to other areas nearby to really get a true feeling what the Northwest has to offer. It was a pleasure meeting both you and your wife and hope to see the two of you again in the future or perhaps we will take you up on the invitation to visit New Orleans during the carnival and jazz seasons. We hope you enjoy the rest of your spring and up coming summer season. Cheers, Rob and Moana
