Stairs to your private beach on Nantucket Sound; just out your back door
Location: Harwich, Cape Cod, Massachusetts, USA (Directly on Nantucket Sound, West Harwich, Massachusetts)
Accommodations: House, 6 Bedrooms + Sunroom, 5 Baths (Sleeps 16)
Keywords: casual beach house, classic Cape Cod, pet friendly, private beach, family compound
Overlooking its own private white sand beach on Nantucket Sound, this private enclave features a 3 bed / 3 bath main house and 2-story 3 bed / 2 bath annex. The rambling casual summer house easily accommodates up to 16 people. Located on Nantucket Sound, which has the warmest, gentlest water on Cape Cod, the beach house is ideal for families with children. The property works well for large gatherings because there are areas where everyone can be together as well as separate living spaces to get away and read a good book.
The prevailing southwesterly breezes off Nantucket Sound in the summer months fill the air with the refreshing sounds and smells of the sea. The exterior landscape is traditional Cape Cod with an open grassy back yard, sea grass, and roses with stairs to the private beach on Nantucket Sound, a flagstone patio, and an outdoor shower.
Enjoy incomparable sunrises and sunsets over the Sound from the picture window in the master bedroom or from the beach steps away. Evenings, watch the moon rise over the water and glimpse the glimmer of lights beyond the horizon. Spend your vacation in this paradise of relaxed living in the best tradition of Olde Cape Cod.

I was happy to see my review from 2009 posted, and I decided to write an updated review since we just stayed there last month, June 2011. The weather is unpredictable, and this time we had 3 1/2 days of sun and 3 1/2 days of rain, at least off and on. That never affects the wonderful time we have; we just plan our days accordingly and let the weather do what it does! We still love this house and its amenities! The new beds are fine, except when it's all adults..... no one wants to climb up to the top bunk! We loved everything again this year as in the past.... there are a few upgrades that are nice, such as the new washer and dryer, another outdoor glass table with umbrella and chairs, nice new matching lounge and straight outdoor chairs. The rooms are comfortable and there's plenty of space for all of us, even when we're in the same room! The new table in the sunroom opened up to make room for all of us, and that's where we ate every meal. We miss the old gnarled tree next to the big rock in the middle of the lawn, as it provided a little shade. Now there's none unless you sit at one of the tables under the umbrella. We miss having a land-line phone, as we always used calling cards to call home since cellular service is very poor in this location. It seems that having a land line makes it possible to call for emergency services and know they can find you just from the phone you used to make the call. This year there were 14 of us, and we made a little "nest" area in the living room of the West Wing for the 7th couple. As the bunk beds are all one piece, the top bunks weren't removable to use as extra beds. The couple that stayed in the new "nest" had brought a blow-up mattress, thank goodness, so that was their bed. The futon in the den could possibly be comfortable, but there is no privacy there.... and as the closest bathrooms are within the bedrooms off the den, the bathroom at the other end of the house would have to be used. The futon in the West Wing living room is extremely uncomfortable to sit on and get out of, and wasn't an option as a bed either. The swimming was wonderful every day, rain or shine! And as usual, we hated to leave... our week always flies by too fast. We definitely plan to come back next year, which seems like a long stretch since it's only July right now. So we'll enjoy the rest of the Summer where we live and the great memories of our time on the Cape in this wonderful home! It's a privilege to stay there.

This property was great. There are 2 separate houses but we only used the smaller house to sleep as there was plenty of room in the main house for everyone to hang out. The living area is roomy and spacious with beautiful floors and high ceilings. There are essentially 2 dining rooms - one with a wall of windows overlooking the water - and there was plenty of room for all of us to sit and eat. The kitchen has everything that you'd need and there is also a washer & dryer which came in handy. The backyard leads right to stairs that lead down to the beach. Absolutely beautiful views. We would definitely stay here again!

This June will be our third year in this amazing home! There are 12 of us, family and friends who have been vacationing on Cape Cod for almost 25 years! Our 20-year rental in Brewster was sold, so we had to start all over again...... and you know how hard it is to teach old dogs new tricks! This is the third rental we found since then, and our search is over, as it is PERFECT! It's right on the water with a grassy yard overlooking the sandy beach ...... we see a few bunnies munching on tender plants on occasion...... there's lots of room indoors and out to lounge, read, play Pinochle, eat the amazing food we seem to come up with every year....... the house has five bedrooms plus an upstairs efficiency apartment that my mother and sister have claimed as theirs.... and we all have all the room we need, privacy or togetherness any time! Morning coffee out in the yard looking out at the water is absolutely THE BEST! I don't even think we've had more than one or two days of rain in our two years so far. But if it does happen, the house itself is light and roomy and we won't even mind then! It's wonderful to be able to count on a place that is consistently great every year..... all we need is our linens and clothes, camera and a toothbrush, and we're ready for the week! The neighborhood is quiet and a great place to walk.... as well as the beach, which is a few houses down from a small town beach. The swimming has been great each year; even during the third week of June we haven't found it too cold to take a dip. Wish we could stay longer!

Property/Unit : 114927 - "Classic Cape Cod Beachfront Rental for up to 12 people in West Harwich" Date of Arrival : Jul 12, 2008 Name on Contract : Stuke Review Rating : 5/5 Review Title : 215813 - "Dynamic layout" "In July 2008 my family and parents stayed here. It was the perfect time of year. The property layout is great. There are two large common areas(rooms) where we couuld all gather for games/TV/movies. The rooms were the living room and the sun room. Additionally, the sun room was great for dinner. We set up one large table and all ate together in one room which given the group size was great for such a large family group. In additon to these two rooms of course was the outside courtyard which also was available however we chose not to use it for dinner. The bedrooms are great in that they are situated in such a way that they are private and the noise from common areas does not reach them. So some of our group could go to bed while others stayed late into the evening/morning. Also great was the central air so all could escape the summer heat during the day but primarily the humidity at night. Located mid-cape allowed for quick day trips to either end of cape. The waterfront does not have much surf so body surfing is not an option. However we still did group swimming. Seaweed is present. But being New Englanders that did not phase us. Plenty of beach chairs, beach toys were provided. One item youu may want to bring is a full LP tank for the grill so as to avoid having to run out just when starting a diner. Made for a greate memorable family experience where we all could share time while allowing time away/privacy as wanted. One note. Garbage is picked up at end of week. So I would recommend lobster/seafood feast(s) for later in week so as to avoid the smell for a week. A great rental for families who want to spend time together while at the same time have seperate private time.

This house is wonderfully located on one of the nicest streets in West Harwich, very close to Harwich Port and everything you might need. The yard is overgrown and you can't easily see the beach from the yard, but being on the beach is nice enough. The main house is quite spacious in terms of living area, but the "ell" has 2 TINY bedrooms plus tv area and a tiny full bath. The "crow's nest" has no a/c but a very strong wind off the water keeps it cool enough. In all, it held 2 families easily and could hold 3 or more. Our only major complaint -- the bathrooms are very dated and have no ventilation, so our bath towels never dried and smelled mildewy after a couple days. The kitchen is dated but has newer appliances so it was not an issue. There is an outdoor shower with hot/cold water (great for rinsing kids) but it is not enclosed for privacy. I would love to stay here again if the owner would renovate a few things, but heaven forbid, don't tear it down, it's a great old house.
