El Morro house description
Far from the noise of the city, this pueblo style adobe sits on a hill just steps from the Zuni mountain forest. The views from the great room sweep across the valley and include Bandera volcano, the spectacular sandstone formations known as Los Gigantes (the giants) and El Morro National Monument. This house is a traditional adobe built from soil from the building site. It is a solar powered and propane home with radiant heat and full solar electricity. The floor plan is an open “great room” plan (living, dining and kitchen), and bedrooms are on either side of the great room.
The master suite (on the East side) has a closet and private bath with a claw foot tub. Outside the master enjoy a small patio, outdoor shower and views to the national forest. On the west side of the house there is another bedroom and a bath with a slate and tile shower. A perfect place to read a book or take a nap is the double bed in an alcove in the great room. The home boasts beautiful large log beams (vigas) and has hand crafted and carved wood details thru out. This house can sleep 6 comfortably. Enjoy coffee and cocktails on the large flagstone patio that overlooks the valley. On cool nights light a fire in the stately woodburning fireplace.
This is a place to completely relax, rejuvenate, take long walks in the forest or just sit and listen to the quiet. Many visitors have commented that they have never experienced such quiet before. The house sits on over 1000 acres of an organically certified cattle ranch. Deer, elk, fox and wild turkeys are frequent visitors (no hunting please). Spring and fall bird migrations are spectacular with possible sitings of 10 to 30 different species in one day including eagles, kestrels and ravens. The birds love to visit the small pond near the patio. June and July are prime hummingbird months and it is not unusual to spot 5 species at the feeders at once. The night time sky is spectacular with the Milky Way as a 'starring' player.
This house is located on a working organic cattle ranch 2 hours southwest of the Albuquerque International airport; 5 hours from Phoenix: 8 hours from Las Vegas, NV and 11 hours from Los Angeles International Airport. There is internet access as well as phone and a beautifully equipped kitchen. You will love cooking on the vintage O’Keefe and Merritt Stove. During the Summer months there is a local farmer’s market every Saturday morning where locals bring fresh produce, baked goods and locally made crafts. There are 3 restaurants within 15 miles and a small convenience store where some basic grocery items and gas can be purchased. There is also a local Coop that is open Thursdays and Saturdays that sells some local meat and healthful foods. The Ancient Way Restaurant offers delicious food and special gourmet meals on Friday and Saturday nights. La Tinaja Restaurant serves meals all day.
Few people have the opportunity to experience this amazing valley and beautifully hand crafted home.
This is a magical and remarkable place. Words do not do this property justice. This is a perfect place to begin your tour of places like Chaco Canyon, Canyon de Chelly, and the Zuni Pueblo, Mesa Verde, Monument Valley, Grand Canyon, Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon.
Come read, sleep, meditate, walk, hike and breathe or just watch the light dance on the mesas ... you can do that here. Experience the southwest in this unique, pristine place.

We stayed for three nights and were blown away by the property. What a privilege to be able to stay in such a wonderful house. The drive alone to the house is spectacular. The house is set up for every need and easily accommodated four adults and three small children. My memories of sitting outside watching shooting stars will endure. We hope to stay again for a longer than the three short nights.

Words do not describe this property! If you want to get away from it all and return to nature, this is the perfect place! Soothing your senses is an understatement. The house is gorgeous and fits perfectly in the environment. A wonderful organic store as well as a Farmer's Market will allow you to stock your kitchen, as once you are here, you will not want to leave for meals. Eating inside and out, the home allows you to remember who you are, deep inside your soul whether it be with a good book, hiking the area, watching the beautiful day or night sky, or visiting the surrounding area. We particularly loved El Morro National Monument! Our next visit, we intend to not only do the day tour but the sunset one. There is nothing like a New Mexico sunset...or sunrise, for that matter! Rebecca is a wonderful woman and is very accommodating. She will help you with anything you need although the house lacks nothing. If you want a romantic getaway or a friends' retreat, this property will meet your needs.....and you will come back!

About the owner: I fell in love with this area and built this house with local materials and with the expertise of an adobe home builder and artist. Building this home was a delightful experience. After having spent most of my life in California I longed for the quiet and beauty of the southwest. I am happy to offer to others what I wanted to experience for myself.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
This place is perfect for someone who wants to unwind, take deep breaths, and long walks. A writer, a poet an artist? Arrangements can also be made for some meals to be brought to your door. The house if fully equipped for long quiet days. It is also a great place to take side trips to points of interest. This is country rich in history. El Morro National Monument which sits directly across the valley dates visits from the conquistadors as early as 1212. This is truly a place to rejuvenate and explore. It will change you forever.
