The historical apartment - on the second floor with private elevator - still fully furnished with the family's ancient furniture, is located in the the historic center, in the most ancient area of the town - Vergini district - and is part of a 16th century palace, still belonging to the same princely family who built it.

There lived, in the 18th century, the Great Saint, Alfonso de Liguori (August 1st on the calendar), Doctor of the Church and Founder of the Congregation of the Very Holy Redemptor, and in that area he started his apostolate.

The apartment, composed by two double-bedrooms (king-size and queen-size beds), dining room, living room, bathroom, fully furnished kitchen and huge panoramic terrace (90 mq - 1,000 sf), is in an area very well linked to everywhere (2 subways, 5 bus-lines and taxi rank) and offers many touristic attractions (Greek Hipogea of 4th century B.C.; Sacrarium of Fontanelle; Saint Gaudioso and Saint Gennaro's Catacombs; and many aristocratic palaces and important churches).

In five minutes walk, you can reach Naples' Cathedral, with the priceless Saint Gennaro's treasure; and the National Museum of Archeology, with the finest pieces of Pompei and the wonderful Farnese's Collection.

By appointment only, it's possible to visit the Prince's apartment, composed by several reception rooms, a huge ballroom with 18th century frescoes on the ceiling and a splendid 18th century chandelier, a very important library with 16th - 17th - 18th century books, in which rooms the princely family regularly organizes cultural events as concerts, theater exhibitions and debates.

On these occasions, and especially by night, some ghosts belonging to the family have appeared and seemed to enjoy very much to be in company. :-)

The apartment located in a Napolitan palace, still inhabited by the family who built it centuries ago, is full of charm with large and comfortable rooms furnished with antiques. The terrace is really huge and with the nice weather, it is really a plus to take breakfast or meals. Our two children enjoyed it a lot to play. The owners are really charming and full of attentions and can give you valuable advice for your visits. According to your dates of stay, you may even have the privelege to attend a concert in the magnificent Dance Hall of the Palace. The situation in the animated area of La Sanita will enable you to experience the true liveliness of Naples. It is also very close to the Archeological Museum, the catacombs or the Duomo. There is a pizzeria just in front the palace, where you can get inexpensive but excellent pizzas, so you will probably not use very much the kitchen and plenty of small shops to get everything you need and also cake shops (one close to the palace and also Primavera on via dei Vergini) where you can indulge in babas or other napolitan specialties. Lastly, if you have a car, you can park in the court of the Palace, and it is easy to go to the Vesuvio, Pompei, Herculanum or Caserta from the city center. Don't hesitate to come to Naples. You'll love the city and the region. Our stay in this apartment was really a privileged experience we'll all remember. A favorite for us.

Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Owner response: Yannick, thank you so much for your review. It was a privilege have you there. Hope to see you again soon. Gianfrancesco

Oh, where to start. This four room, two bedroom apartment w/private elevator and very private and expansive second floor terrace is perfect for four people. This historic location, is in the center of a vibrant neighborhood away from the usual tourist locations, which allows immediate immersion into the "real" Italian culture. Paola, the owner of this 30 room "palace" is a supporter of the arts and sponsors music, poetry readings, and dance in the ballroom. As house guests, we were invited to attend a poetry reading of Pablo Neruda w/accompanying music. Paola introduced us to several neighborhood artists, dancers and architects, some of whom invited us to visit their studios. There is no need for an auto, many historic buildings and churches are within walking distance, and the metro is nearby to access all areas of Naples. While there are so many historic places to visit, the apartment is within easy walking distance to the Museum which houses the best artifacts of Pompeii. Local restaurants serve authentic Italian food, and just steps away from the apartment is a pizzeria with excellent food. Our party of three spent one month in Italy: Napoli, Pompeii, Florence and Rome, in that order. Although our month-long Italian visit was much better than expected, Napoli stole our hearts because of our experience with the owners, Paola, and her son Francisco. They were so attendant to our needs that we felt like family. We have visited Italy several times, but by far, this experience was outstanding. The two bedrooms are large and well appointed with period furniture: the lounge and dining area, likewise. Beautiful art hangs on walls, and if you're fortunate enough to be invited to tour some of the other room in the "Palace", there is art, antiques and the sense of stepping back in time. The bathroom and kitchen are small, but accommodated our needs. Anyhow, who wants to cook when you're in Italy! Whenever we visit Italy again (which we will), this apartment and location in Napoli is first on our list.

What a lively and vibrate neighborhood! We reminisce fondly on our enchanted visit to Napoli as we were so warmly welcomed in Gian Francesco and his mother, Paula's "palazzo". We felt we had voyaged into times past, staying in this noble apartment, walls adorned with works of art, and each object, a museum piece. The bedding was comfortable and we had a view of an ancient magnolia tree from our window. Our hostesse had thoughtfully left artbooks of Napoli at our bedside table. We rarely used the kitchen as the Bar across the street served the best coffee and hot chocolate we had ever tasted and the pastries from Primavera were scrumptuous. Dining out was just more economic and an adventure to be had by all. The neighbourhood was alive with families on Vespas, markets with just about everything from socks to arugula to handmade soap etc. and family boutiques spilled out onto the street. We were treated like old friends, and daily, Paula helped us plan our itineraries, and we were never disappointed! Napoli is an undiscovered jewel and this lovely family helped us to discover it's treasures without feeling like tourists. We will forever be grateful to our Napolian hosts... We highly recommend staying in this"palace apartment".

                        Owner response: Merci beaucoup

About the owner: We are still the princely family who owns the family's building. We work in PR and we speak English, French, Spanish and German fluently.

                      Why the Owner Chose Napoli:
David Gepner (Germany) Gianfrancesco's apartment is really as beautiful as it looks in the pictures. When we got to Napoli, we met up with his mother Paola, who gave us the key and showed us around. She is extremely friendly and helpful and provided us with invaluable assistance throughout of stay, making sure we got the most out of our trip, and Gianfrancesco was always available by phone, in case we had a problem. Our apartment, together with hers, occupies the entire third floor of a huge, family-owned, aristocratic building, right in the center of Napoli. The palace itself is very old, with very high ceilings (some frescoed) and huge windows. Our quarters were six rooms (including two bedrooms, kitchen and bathroom, which is accessed through one of the bedrooms) plus an enormous terrace which overlooks a marketplace district below, where seemingly all the locals went for their daily shopping. Needless to say, the food was sublime, with cheap quality groceries available in the shops on the street below and incredible restaurants scattered throughout the city. The city itself is extremely vibrant and full of history, and the surrounding countryside is some of the most gorgeous I've even seen (especially the Amalfi coast) . All in all we couldn't have asked for a better or more memorable experience, courtesy of Gianfrancesco and Paola. We will certainly be back! Will Brag (S. Francisco - USA) This rental made our stay in Napoli outstanding. I have to admit we were a bit skeptical about visiting Napoli but Paola (our hostess) was as charming as lovely as anyone could be. She put us at ease immediately and continued to treat us as family. We were sad to say goodbye to Paola but I am sure we will see her again. Now we have a reason to visit Napoli. The apt itself was as charming as Paola, filled with antiques and art. The very large private terrace was a great place to relax after a day of visits. Honestly, we can't thank paola enough for her sweet kindness!

The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
The apartment is in an area very well linked to everywhere (2 subways, 5 bus-lines and taxi rank) and offers many touristic attractions.
