Mosier house description
You will love the views, seclusion, expansive decks, convenient access, and super comfortable design of this Columbia River Gorge house. Situated on a secluded bluff above the Columbia River and town of Mosier, it is 10 minutes from downtown Hood River, 5 minutes from I84, and even closer to the charming and historic Gorge town of Mosier. You can watch wind and kite sailers launching from Rock Creek beach while enjoying coffee or cocktails from the deck, and keep tabs on wind conditions all day. Deer, wild turkeys, osprey, bald eagles, and other wildife are commonly seen from our decks, which make perfect outdoor living and dining areas for long, relaxed summer nights, barbecues, and stunning sunsets above the Hood River bridge and city of White Salmon to the west.
What we and our visitors enjoy most, aside from the world class location, is being able to find quiet and seclusion so close to the restaurants, brew pubs, grocery stores, and other necessary amenities of Mosier and Hood River. Its the perfect place to wind down after a day on the water, road, or trail, or to just spend a quiet day with a book, the WiFi, or cable TV and the views as the light changes throughout the day. The design of the house and AC also make it super comfortable during the hot Gorge summers - something to be wary of with other rentals.
At 1,650 sq. ft., the house is modest in size, but the nearly 1,000 sq. ft. of decking expands the usable space considerably. Downstairs includes an entryway/mud room/coat hanging area with adjacent, separate laundry room. The living room, dining area, and large kitchen are all open with windows facing the river. Living room has a large couch, loveseat, futon couch, large end table, coffee table, and TV stand/stereo cabinet. The dining table sits 4 and expands to six, while the breakfast bar sits 3. The dining area is adjacent to the deck with a nice, country style screen door. A full bath with shower is also on the first floor. Upstairs are two large bedrooms both with new queen beds, one bedroom off of each side of a large stair landing. A full bath with tub and shower is shared by both bedrooms, each with a private access. High ceilings, large windows, and incredible views make the bedrooms really a pleasure. The master bedroom boasts a large deck off screened French doors that get drenched with morning sun.
The decks have a combination of shade or sun anytime of day. The largest shaded area occurs during mid and late day, while the largest sunny areas occur in the morning - a perfect combination. Abundant patio furniture and a picnic table make the decks true extensions of the home's comforts.
We love to mountain and road bike and relish the location for both. Access to historic hwy 30 and the Mosier Tunnels makes for great country road biking and access to Hood River, including several loops of varying size. You can also take dirt roads and trails over the ridge to Hood River, ride back through the tunnels, and get a root beer float in Mosier on the way back!

Private, cozy and comfortable - but too hot!
Private, cozy and comfortable - but too hot!
The house itself is very comfortable. The decks are wonderful and spacious - the night time views are amazing. My husband and I counted nearly a dozen shooting stars one night. The air conditioning was not working while we were there and we had a very hard time sleeping, especially our daughter. The house isn't very kid friendly so I wouldn't recommend staying with small children. Also - the management company didn't do a very good job of cleaning prior to our arrival. The window next to the dining table had smashed bugs all over it and I don't think they wash the comforters on the beds. Aside from those details, it isn't a bad spot and the price is reasonable.

Best thing about this house is the outside living space. The deck is amazing!!! The kitchen is ok, outdated but functional. It's a nice open concept. The layout of the house is a little funky, the beds are horrible...I ended up sleeping on the couch most of the time. The AC didn't work properly as the house got a little warm during the day. Other than that I would rate this as a good property, Mosier is a very cute little town, and Hood River is just minutes away.

Beautiful mountain and Columbia river view
Beautiful mountain and Columbia river view
We are glad to find this lovely vacation home, the house is very clean and comfortable. You can view Columbia river from all the bed room, living room and kitchen. We feel really relaxed when sitting on the deck to watch the moon rising from the mountain.

My expectations were met and surpassed: spacious, clean, well appointed, great big windows, expansive deck, quiet, private, well maintained, and the central AC is a dream for those hot no wind days.As a windsurfer I was able to keep my eye on the conditions at Rock Creek and head down the hill to rig when the time was right.

Year Purchased: 1987
About: We bought the property in 1987 while living in Alaska but already bitten by the windsurfing bug. Designed the house and had it built in 1995 - a true labor of love. We love the area, the people, the incredible variety of outdoor pursuits available. This is a special place for us and we hope it is for you too.
Like many, we came originally because of the windsurfing. Now, however, we continue to come not only for the windsuring but also for biking, rafting, access to Portland, fantastic dining, the friendliest people anyone could ask for, and a bunch of friends we now have in the area.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We live in Wyoming where there are more antelope than people in the state. Wildlife around the property are abundant, which is why we ask that pets be controlled and not allowed to run loose. The spaciousness, views, quiet, comfort, deck, easy access to Hood River, and charm of Mosier are what separate our place from other rentals.
