We recently spent New Year's at this lovely cottage which was quiet, comfortable and convenient to downtown Toronto via streetcar and subway. Filled with lots of original art, a huge eclectic book collection and unique interior design features the cottage was a perfect place to relax. We hardly knew we were in the centre of Toronto it was so peaceful. The bed was incredibly comfortable, towels were of high quality, shower worked well and the kitchen had all the amenities including an expresso maker. The neighbourhood is most interesting and has a number of good restaurants and fascinating shops. Only wish we had visited in summer to experience the beautiful natural backyard. Highly recommended, especially for a couple's getaway.

My husband and I stayed here when we came to Toronto to celebrate our 15th anniversary and attend the Toronto International Film Festival. Sheree and Clive's home is a wonder of colors and light. The space is large and comfortable, with living room, office, half bath, kitchen, dining room, and deck on the first floor; loft bedroom with private atmosphere above; and two bedrooms, full bath, and laundry room below. Having breakfast and your afternoon tea on the deck is a time of peace and natural beauty, and it is hard to believe downtown Toronto is just minutes away. The living room is filled with a real book collection, with comfortable seating for reading, conversation, TV. The kitchen has everything you need to prepare full meals -- that is, if you don't want to take advantage of the many wonderful ethnic restaurants in the neighborhood. All of the arrangements for our stay were handled with a competent, professional approach, marked by excellent communication and planning. Thanks Sheree and Sarah for everything you did to make this such a memorable time for us, and we are really hoping to come back next year.

We spent a wonderful family reunion/Thanksgiving weekend at this cottage-in-the-city. The house was spacious, and very comfortable for our family of four adults. The owners had generously provisioned their home with everything we needed, from stacks of fluffy white towels to an excellent introduction to the neighbourhood -- and very few "rules." We loved the location -- close to good cafés, restaurants and grocery stores, transit, and genteel neighbourhoods to stroll through. But we also enjoyed spending time at the house, sitting around the table and enjoying the view of the garden and the artwork, and perusing the owners' extensive library. We would definitely return.

I LOVED my stay at the cottage in the city! It really felt like an oasis. I rented the house with three others for a yoga training in Toronto. We all loved the space, there was plenty of room for both privacy and hanging out. We felt comfortable and at home, the kitchen is fully stocked with cooking equipment, it's beautifully decorated and very quiet. The owners were very thoughtful about the space, including recommendations for restaurants and walks around the neighborhood, and checking in to make sure everything was going okay. My favorite part was sitting in the lush backyard garden. I loved the neighborhood, enjoyed walks in all directions, croissants from nearby Pain Perdu, the Artscape Barns, and Leah's bakery. There is a streetcar a block away. I can highly recommend staying here!

My friends and I came for a long weekend stay and very much enjoyed this cottage. It might look small from the front but the open floor plan inside is well laid out and gets much sunlight. Sheree and Clive have a knack for design which made the place roomy and also lively with many colors and works of art. The back of the house is almost all glass which lets in ample light and allows a view into the backyard. We enjoyed lunch at the table out in the yard. The wireless internet worked perfectly and there was an office for anyone that needs a separate space to get some work done. There was plenty of space to lounge in the living room. The TV was a bit on the small side but we only noticed it because we were watching the Olympics which had just begun when we arrived in town. Otherwise, we would not have turned it on because we would have spent more time exploring the city. The piano was a wonderful surprise and I played it a bit everyday. The kitchen and dining room area was plenty for our needs. There are 2 beds in the basement bedroom although it doesn't show in the pictures, so don't worry about not having enough space for 4 to sleep. The only thing I want to point out is the listing states 2 bathrooms but it's not 2 full baths and is rather 1.5 baths. Only one of the bathrooms had a shower which makes 4 people getting ready in the morning a bit lengthy, but it wasn't a huge deal to us since the remainder of us would catch up on the Olympics action. Also, the loft bedroom has no door or solid walls (by definition) on the side facing the stairs going down, but it was skillfully blocked with shelves and such so the bed upstairs wasn't really visible to those walking around down below in the living room. In the vicinity of the house were many restaurants, grocery stores, and shops. It's less than a 15 minute walk from the subway, or you could transfer to the street car which stops very close to the house. From the closest subway stop, it was about 10 minutes into downtown area. Thanks Sheree and Clive for sharing your apartment. We also want to thank Sheree's assistant, Sarah, who was so helpful in accommodating our late checkout.

Owner response: Thanks so much for the great review! Thanks for the suggestions- we'll change the listing from 2 baths to 1.5, and yes, we've been meaning to get a larger TV! Please come again- Best Regards, Sheree and Clive

Sheree and Clive, Many thanks for the use of your wonderful little cottage during our short stay. We very much enjoyed the artwork, airiness of the house and particularly the back garden and deck! It has been perfect. Must add that the neighbourhood and proximity to downtown is just what we needed. Thanks!

The cottage is every bit as charming as the photos depict. Our selection was based not only on the pics, but on the owner's philosophy as well and we weren't disappointed. If you are lovers of art as we are, you will not be disappointed. The cottage is lovingly decorated not only with original works of art but also contains a very large private book collection on every imaginable subject...a reader's delight. We spent 6 days there and every time we turned around we discovered something new in another nook or cranny. The piano off the kitchen was a pleasant surprise as our son who had "given up" the piano took to playing it in the morning. Sheree, the owner was easily accessible to answer questions and or concerns and Sarah, her assistant, helped us before our arrival with suggestions on where to go, what to do, where to eat, etc., which was a BIG help! Travel by "street car" was relatively easy & just up the street from the cottage, the subway about a good 10 min walk away. The city is relatively easy to navigate. There are convenience stores, coffee shops and 2 wonderful bakeries nearby for fresh bread and pastries. There is a wide array of local restaurants giving you an opportunity to glob trot if you're so inclined. We had Tapas right around the corner.....so good, Indian (2 nights, the owner cooked for us, what a treat), as well as Vietnamese and Thai. You can't go wrong with the food in Toronto! We happened to be there during the Euro Cup and got caught up with "soccer fever" in Little Italy, great fun!! Toronto's Jazz Festival was also going on and we had an opportunity to see & hear 2 amazing jazz artists at the neighborhood tapas bar...it doesn't get much better than that. Everyone we encountered in Toronto was welcoming & friendly and overall we had a great visit!

About the owner: My partner and I are both artists and landscape designers. I'm a textile artist, and Clive is a painter. We spend much of our time in our country home, where we are working on restoring the land, growing organic food and doing our artwork.

                  Why the Owner Chose Toronto:
We love our city house, but only use it occasionally when we're in Toronto for our landscaping business.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
The house is over 100 years old, feels more like a cottage, and was originally part of a farm. It's a wonderful place to spend time in the midst of a big city. It's very quiet, yet right in the middle of an interesting neighbourhood, and close to downtown.
