You’re going to Love The Mermaid Cottage
Enjoy your best vacation ever. The Mermaid Cottage is a private beachside home totally remodeled during the winter of 2012. This three bedroom, 2 bath home is in a quiet, highly regarded and admired beach neighborhood with a laid back atmosphere, eclectic mix of old Florida cottages and contemporary homes just one block from one of the several deeded beach accesses...just walk on. It is on a full lot that runs from one street to another providing additional privacy, parking and access. We are 100% pet friendly and children love this cottage. Enjoy relaxing and listening to the ocean on the covered porch overlooking the completely fenced front yard. The backyard has a great party deck for grilling, entertaining, relaxing and sunning. In addition there is an upper deck for sunning and viewing the ocean. You are just a short, easy 2 minute stroll to one of the best beaches on the east coast and an easy bike ride to the intra-coastal waterway public boat ramp and Windswept Beach Park. You are only 10 miles from Marineland and 12 minutes from historic downtown St. Augustine.
The open Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen floor plan allows The Mermaid Cottage to live big and easily all on one floor. All bedrooms have extremely comfortable Beds (we love comfort). The MB is a king size bed and has a 40' HD flat screen tv, the second bedroom has two twin beds with a kit to easily convert them to a king size bed, and the third bedroom (which is actually a 2nd Master Bdrm) has a king bed, sitting area with love seat and tv. The two master bedrooms are located on different ends of the house making it a great house for two couples or teenagers. One of the two sofas in the living room is a very comfortable queen sofa bed. You can easily sleep up to 8 people. Our home is fully equipped, very comfortable and very well decorated. A large, fully equipped kitchen allows you to easily prepare meals at home when you choose. Enjoy the 46“ flat screen HD satellite TV, DVD Player and free wi-fi. The two Master Bedrooms also have TV's and DVD players. There’s even a stocked desk if Mom or Dad need to do a “little” work while away or just write postcards. We’ve provided lots of little extras to make your vacation memorable and the most fun. There are bikes, a bike trailer, boogie boards, beach chairs and coolers.
We are out of state owners but very “hands on” with our property visiting often and living in one of our two vacation homes in St. Augustine during the winter. Our other home, 2nd Haven, is listed on VRBO also. It is #295611. Please read our reviews. This house also meets those standards. Local friends help us maintain this lovely home and are available immediately should you need assistance
You will love the Mermaid Cottage, the beach and the neighborhood. You will feel right at home immediately. . We want you to relax and enjoy our home and your St. Augustine vacation experience and return year after year.

My husband, myself and our dog enjoyed the month of May in the Mermaid Cottage. It was accurately described in the listing; all that is posted about it is factual. The accommodations were terrific, the locations was wonderful and the fenced in yard a patio (rooftop garage also) were delightful. Just one short block to the beach entrance and the beautiful St. Augustine beach. The house is equipped with everything; I never reached for anything in the kitchen that was not there. The bedding was all brand new and beyond comfortable, and the furnishings were very accomodating. Wide screen TV with cable and WiFi. Front porch with chairs, and a hammock were wonderful to watch the sun rise and sit after dinner and watch the world and birds go by. Deborah and George were very helpful, making sure that everything was up to speed and our entry into their property was totally painless. I would highly recommend this cottage for rental; it was truly a little piece of heaven. We met our daughter and grand kids from Orlando at this adorable cottage. Just two blocks from an uncrowded section of beach, we walked, rode the bikes provided, and enjoyed the nearby old town of St. Augustine. The house had a fence for our dogs, and plenty of out door spaces for us to spread out and enjoy. The furniture was comfy and the place was impeccably clean. The owner is super nice to deal with. The whole experience was fantastic.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.

The Mermaid Cottage had everything we could ask for in a beach rental and more. The cottage was beautifully decorated, from the lovely art in every room to the palm tree sheets. The owners clearly put a lot of love into the place, which makes it special. The house was very clean, and the kitchen was well-stocked. Also, we didn't mind not being right on the beach because we could still hear the waves and feel the breeze. We're also grateful that the owners let us bring our dog so she could share our vacation. We'll treasure our memories of sitting on the front porch and listening to the waves, cooking wonderful meals, and sleeping peacefully in the Mermaid Cottage.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We spent a wonderful 2 weeks at this cozy, well maintained beach cottage. We felt very much at home with all of the things you might need for a beach vacation. The area is quiet and access to the wonderful beach here is easy. Just about 2 minutes walk or short drive to beach access for cars. We loved walking for hours on the beach and hope to return soon to this lovely place. The property was as described and shown. The owners were very helpful and made sure that things were as expected. I can recommend this property.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway.

My husband and I and our three dogs spent a wonderful two weeks at the Cottage. The first morning we were there, my husband had to point out that the noise I heard from the front porch was the ocean and not rush-hour traffic that we're used to at home! Being that close to the beach was one of the reasons we chose the cottage, plus all the positive reviews on this site. After reading some of the not-so-positive reviews here and on other vacation rental sites, we were a little leery of renting sight unseen, but those concerns were immediately dispelled the minute we walked in the door. To echo what others have said, the furnishings are of good quality and comfortable and the linens and towels are likewise plush and plentiful. We especially appreciated the little touches, such as labels on every light switch and the list of helpful information and local recommendations. Everything we could have possibly wanted was readily available, and the decor and layout were very inviting. The photos here are very accurate and up to date, and the place was immaculate upon our arrival. Our dogs loved the beach and the fenced yard. We did find out the hard way that our little 20-pound dog could escape through the railing on the few steps down from the porch. We had brought a baby gate "just in case" and put it to good use to plug the gap. So if you have a little one that likes to explore, be forewarned! The neighborhood is a typical beach community with a mixture of large, impressive houses and more modest ones. The only slight negative to the Cottage is the houses on either side are not very well maintained. We never had any problems, but did wonder what might be living in the overgrown vegetation. But don't let that scare you off - this is a great place and you can't get closer to the beach for the price. Speaking of the beach, we were delighted to find out that we could drive on it, which saved us seniors the trouble of lugging chairs, towels, etc., over the dunes. We just drove up, parked, and relaxed. Deborah was available when we had questions but otherwise left us alone. She was very easy to work with throughout the whole process, and really made us feel that she wanted us to feel at home. Which we did! If you are looking for cozy, comfortable, well maintained and reasonably priced accommodations 5 minutes from the beach, you can't go wrong with the Mermaid Cottage.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We spent two weeks at the Mermaid cottage and the only draw back was we couldn't stay longer. With out saying, the beach was fantastic.Your far enough away from the condos that we always had plenty of beach to our self. As you can see in the pictures the cottage is immaculate but it was some of the small things the owners provide that impressed us. Five bikes(we used every day),lawn chairs, skim boards, and even a cooler. The flat screen TVs were wonderful on the only rainy day we had. Although we don't live that far it was wonderful not having to pull the boat back home and walking on the beach early and late times of the day. I recommend this to my family and friends..Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We just returned from a week long stay at The Mermaid Cottage. My two daughters, my mother and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The house is decorated beautifully and within a very close proximity to the beach. We enjoyed a couple of great restaurants nearby and we went to the open air market on Wednesday morning at St. Augustine pier. The rest of our time was spent on the beach. The beach is beautiful and we basically had it to ourselves! None of us were ready to leave at the end of our stay and we already decided we will rent here again next summer!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at the Mermaid Cottage for a full week and we were thoroughly impressed with the accommodations and had a wonderful time. Although Tropical Storm Debbie came thru during our stay, she did not put a damper on our vacation. We were still able to enjoy the beach and many activities in town including sight seeing and shopping. During the times it was raining, we amused ourselves with playing Scrabble and Monopoly, games readily available at the house along with board games for all ages. Arriving at the Mermaid Cottage, both my wife and I expectations were far exceeded. Photos can only do so much on-line. The house was very clean and provided every creature comfort you will ever need to really enjoy your vacation and feel like you have not left your home. This was one of the intangible qualities we really enjoyed staying here, as opposed to getting a hotel room or condo. Here, you have space, privacy, and a sense of security of home. In a condo, you are confined to a unit with close neighbors and many a persons around. The house was tastefully decorated to really put you in a seaside environment. Our friends even joking commented on they asked if they could buy some of the decorations. The rooms were nice and spacious, the bathrooms were nice and clean as well. All accommodations were readily available from towels and blankets, to cooking utensils and steak knives, to the gas grill which we used on several occasions as I enjoy grilling out. In the morning, you can sit on the front porch chairs, enjoy your coffee, and have the sun rise in your face and take in the peace and quiet. The beach is very close and accessible, less than a 5 minute walk away around the corner. There are beach chairs, boogie boards and beach bikes available to use, as we did. We rode the bikes down the beach at low tide to the pier. Was a fun ride and you got to enjoy the beautiful beach that Crescent Beach has to offer. And when you get back to the house, there was an outside shower/spicket to rinse the sand off of before going inside. Overall, the stay was just great, a nice relaxing much needed vacation. The owners are very pleasant to work with. They ensured we arrived OK and everything was accessible. Contacting them was very easy, they always answered the phone. This is a great attribute to have vs. having to go thru a Management Co with other rentals. Do not hesitate to stay here! You will love it!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We had a wonderful time at Mermaid Cottage. It was beautifully decorated, clean and fit four adults very comfortably. The front porch, the backyard deck and the upper deck on the garage were amazing. Even though it's a cottage, there were so many places on the property to enjoy. We could not have picked a better, more relaxing place in St.Augustine. The beach was very wide and flat. Great for jogging, bicyling, shell hunting and kite flying. I'll be sure to stay there again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Owner info

About the owner: George & Deborah live in the mountains of NC. George is a general contractor, musician, wood artist and bee keeper. Deborah owns a salon/spa, is a gardener, stained glass artist and assistant bee keep and aspiring cookbook author with a blog site called agardencook.com. We live a sustainable lifestyle in our 100 year old farmhouse in the mountains of Cashiers, NC.
Why the Owner Chose Crescent Beach:
George and I love the beach. We were both raised on east coast beaches and although we love living in the mountains of NC, we missed the coast. We always dreamed of owning a beach house. We've spent many hours and dreams designing and redesigning the quintessential beach get-away. We believe that we have created that special place to retreat, relax and recharge....the perfect 'memory building' spot to share with family, grandchildren and friends.
And we are happy to be sharing it with you and your family and pets.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We love grabbing a beach chair and just walking the short distance to the beach ramp. The ramp is built over the dunes and we enjoy looking at the plantings and creatures that live in the dunes. The beach is one of the widest on the east coast and we are always awed by it. It's a casual beach which we find very relaxing. Pets are allowed on a leash and we enjoy watching people and their pets. We are so close to Dtwn St. Augustine , the oldest city in the U.S. It takes minutes to drive Dtwn and enjoy all the siteseeing, shops, architecture and great dining. We are always passing ghost tours and one of these days I'm going to take one.
