Home Away From Home
Home Away From Home
My husband, son and I spent a week at the Montclair House while attending a granddaughters wedding in Decatur. The proximity to all the wedding venues was terrific. The house was exactly as depicted on the web-site but better. It would be difficult to show on the web how comfortable, warm, cozy and tastefully everything is blended. The colors are restful. We slept like babies every night. The owners are so thoughtful; bananas, bagels, cream cheese and snackies were there upon our arrival. There were even the usual essentials one might forget when coming from afar -- coffee filters, paper goods, etc., etc. We enjoyed our wine & cheese meet and greet on the screened-in porch w/the owners who live next door and loved hearing about the history of the house. Only wish we could have stayed longer or have the opportunity to do it all over again. The Montclair House was a wonderful addition to our granddaughters wedding trip. Enjoyed local eateries such as Parker's on the Ponce. Great nail shop at 216 Ponce. Don't miss the DeKalb Farmer's market but take a jacket, it's cold inside. Even a rainy day was enjoyed watching the leaf shower from the large windows in the dining/family room area. It was all good!

Perfect house for a family vacation
Perfect house for a family vacation
This house was perfect for our family of four. Parents slept on main floor with adjacent bathroom and children each had a room upstairs with a bathroom to share. Bedrooms are good-sized and there is a lot of common space: living room, library, dining-family room, and a large screened porch. Lots of storage space for long-term rental. Everything was clean and well-maintained and just as described. The owners were happy to help when we had trouble figuring out the alarm. They provided some hotel-style amenities like nice shampoo and conditioner. They also left a basket of fruit and snacks for us, which was much appreciated, and the cabinets had plenty of spices, condiments and a few staples. The house is an easy drive from the square and all of its shops and restaurants, and it only took us about 20 minutes (non-rush hour) to get into Atlanta for more sightseeing. We would recommend Montclair and we would rent it again if we were in Decatur. If you go, we recommend Yogurt Tap for dessert and Leon's for dinner. We also enjoyed Farm Burger. Decatur has several nice playgrounds for young children and a beautiful library. Your Dekalb Farmer's Market was perfect for fresh groceries but don't go on a weekend or right after work!

Special week in Decatur
Special week in Decatur
This inviting bungalow served as our home away from home during my son's recent wedding. From the welcome basket, to the well outfitted rooms, to the beautiful gardens, we couldn't have asked for more. The house was clean and cozy, as well as a source of comfort during a very busy week. Easy access to the MARTA and downtown Decatur, as well as shops, restaurants and grocery stores. It truly was the perfect place to stay for our downtown Decatur wedding. We will definitely stay at the Montclair House again and would highly recommend it for anyone planning a trip to the Atlanta area. Only regret ... that we didn't have more time to visited with Michel and Larry ... Next time!

We had such a great stay in the Montclair, the home is so warm and charming. We came down for our sons wedding and could not of had a better time. The Montclair house is close to all attactions and just minuted from the airport. The owners were there for anything that we needed and made the stay just a pleasant time. It was truely a home away from home. Now that we have family in Atlanta we will be back for another stay. I would recommend this to anyone who is traveling to Atlanta. A ten out of ten...

My sisters and I just returned from our "sisters' weekend" at the Montclair House. It was charming and very convenient for walking to restaurants, shopping, even a grocery was nearby, The beds were so comfortable, and everything was just as it was stated. (No surprises, except for the "goodie" basket, which is a good thing!) Lovely screened porch, comfy couches for lots of late night "gab fests"! I'd definitely recommend the Montclair House to anyone wanting or needing to stay in the area! Thanks Larry and Michel for letting us use your home! The Four Sisters!

Perfect is a good word, I will go with that!
I can't think of anything about our stay that was less than just right. Everything in the house is lovely and tasteful, everything is comfy, and it suited our needs in every way. We were there for a family gathering from all around the country, and the Montclair house was where my own family stayed for the weekend event, and the rest came over for getting together at times. It was SO much better than just booking a hotel or motel, it felt like our own home. It's as good as the pictures led us to hope. Lots of room, very good kitchen with everything we needed, a super duper screen porch in back, enough parking when we needed it, spotlessly clean, you name it. Booking was easy and pleasant and I was glad to have a chance to meet the owners, who live next door. Very friendly and good to deal with. I promised them a well deserved top review so here it is! Totally enthusiastic recommendation.

The location is amazing! I was there for my boys to attend camp at Emory and was 7 minutes away. Decatur is a great town. Great food, great shopping and great things for your health! (massage, health food and juice bars!) And when you want to go to Atlanta, you are 10 minutes away but without all the bad traffic. I made it to Atlantic station in 14 minutes...parked and everything. I was almost depressed to go home. Larry and Michele were wonderful hosts and I am missing them right now! Their attention to detail in restoring this home is perfection. I loved everything about it.....and the bed was soooo comfortable! I sure hope I get to go back next summer.

We came back temporarily to Decatur (our home) from Africa to have a baby. Our house was currently rented out and we were looking for something that was within government per diem for a two month stay. I work at the CDC and the Montclair House worked out perfectly. The owners are consummate hosts and were able to meet every need for wife and new baby. If you are going to stay and work at Emory, CDC, the VA for a week or a month or two, this place is perfect. The house is wonderfully furnished and there cannot be a nicer screen porch in Decatur. The screen porch was a wonderful way to spend hours with a new baby. It was great to be so close to great restaurants, but also have a quiet backyard and plenty of parking. If you are going to be working in Decatur and need a temporary place to stay, I guarantee you will not find anything better or more homey feeling than the Montclair House. 100% recommendation and hope you get the chance to take advantage of the house.
